Happy July....better known as
the appropriate time to start listening to Christmas music (fight me)
the appropriate time to start listening to Christmas music (fight me)
At Christmas time, this channel on the radio only plays Christmas music. Last year, I listened to it for about 14 days straight XD
My family was sick of it, but I LOVED IT.

I've been playing this holiday lofi and the vibes are just 😩👌

15mins into the new Love and Gelato movie.....ughhhh why do they have to change the plot so much.
Wait, they made a movie?!?! I haven't read that one yet. I need to. I read Love & Luck, and I've been meaning to read Love & Gelato. That's the only downside to movie adaptations. They changed a lot of Along for the Ride too....
lol im gonna review it like a book
Love and Gelato (Movie) 2.5/5 stars
-Minor spoilers on the plot-
...it's alright. Because I read the book a while back I was upset with how much they changed. It was completely unnecessary and I literally had to look back to the book blurb and my review to make sure I was thinking of the right book.
CHARACTERS
First off, Netflix had to change the love interests names to exaggerate the fact they're Italian. Ren became Lorenzo and Thomas became Alessandro, because all foreign people have stereotypical names. The actors for both are pretty cute but didn't look anything like the characters were described; at least what I thought they would look like.
I imagined Ren, played by Tobia De Angelis, to look like Jordan Fisher, but lankier. He gives me Corey Matthews from Boy Meets World vibes. Totally nerfed his gorgeous olive complexion. Thomas's actor Saul Nanni, was close enough ig but I was expecting less Leo DiCaprio in Titanic and more Chad Michael Murray in Cinderella Story. Lina was played by Susanna Skaggs...and it kind upset me. Don't get me wrong, she's STUNNING but I don't think she fit this character. First off, she's VERY TALL which like yes we stan a tall queen but she was taller than like all her cast mates which made it feel really awkward when they're trying to film the kissing scenes because you can tell they're trying to have her all like "looking up into his gorgeous eyes, my heart beating a mile a minute" stuff but she's obviously looking down and it just doesn't work. The director played this off well, having one kiss happen while they're swimming and the other sitting down so kudos to him. If you're gonna create a cheesy YA romance novel into a movie, just let the cheesy things be instead of changing them to be ✨different✨ and taking the not cheesy things into VERY CRINGY things. Francesca's actress was SPOT ON. Valentina Lodovini did such an amazing job, she did change the character a bit, but it was a good change. She was much spicier and sassy which was enjoyable. Owen McDonnell as Howard was also very good, don't have much else to say about that. All the other characters and their actor/actress counterparts are fine.
PLOT
Oh.My.Goodness. I don't know what the writers were on, but it was definitely illegal. HOW DO YOU TAKE THAT BOOK AND TURN IT INTO WHATEVER I WATCHED WAS. I don't get how productions get away with this! You would think, as a writer, not sticking to the source material for a movie would bother them! To whoever allowed this to happen, I hope both sides of your pillows are warm.
FIRST OFF. Lina was sent to TUSCANY not ROME....THERE'S A DIFFERENCE👏👏👏 ALSO LINA WAS SENT TO T U S C A N Y BECAUSE OF HER MOM, IT WAS NOT A PLANNED TRIP. SHE WAS SENT TO HER DAD. Book Lina was sent to Howards place, who lived on a war cemetery and memorial. NOT A CASTLE WITH FRANCESCA FOR A POST GRAD TRIP. Side note, it was clear that Lina and her mom didn't have a ton...so netflix please explain how they can go to Italy for a summer and have Lina attend MIT in the fall AND chemo is expensive! But whatever ig...movie magic.
I'm really upset they not only took away the home she was in, but also the home Ren was in. He's supposed to have a few siblings and live in a cute home down a trail that runs by where Lina is and she runs into him while she's running one day. I'm not 100% sure in this but I'm fairly confident Ren wasn't into cooking...I know his family was but I remember him being into soccer. Don't quote me on that though because I could be wrong.
AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT HER DAD?!? In the movie he just straight up rejects her, but in the book he talks to her. Netflix why you gotta villainize him like that. Yeah he wasn't a good guy but he at least talked with her. (this is where I'm like Ren wasn't a chef because he went with her to meet him, not a cooking school)
To go back to Howard, he was a groundkeeper, not a professor. I don't even know how you get professor from groundskeeper, especially when we know he was an artist prior, so unless the minute her mom left he went to get a PhD in order to teach... Plus the whole thing where he and Fran were hiding the father thing from her, bruh no. Book Lina thought Howard was her dad, reads the journal and finds out its not him. NOT reading the journal, assuming Howard was her dad, then him telling her it's not him it's this other dude. Every time that was brought up I wanted to cry, those scenes were poorly written and executed.
THAT👏ENDING👏 ITS A YA ROMANCE MOVIE WHY DID YOU CHANGE THE ENDING!!!!! Instead of oh I love you Ren and I'm gonna stay here to be with you. Ren moves to FRANCE and Lina stays and becomes a photographer and a ~independent women~ Which we love, but like...if the love interests aren't gonna get together then what is the point of the film? Also what genre is it then? Because there was 0.2% romance throughout this whole thing. Don't come at me like "oh in a few years he comes back and they meet up and go on a date" NO! no no no no no. (In the movie context) You're telling me that after only knowing each other for....a month? and maybe 3 interactions? and 2 years (give or take, culinary school can take between 6 months- 4 years) THEY STILL LIKE EACH OTHER?!?! no. no ma'am/sir. Culinary school in France for a few years and his dude is like nah I like that American chick I talked to like twice. It's so dumb. Don't even get me started with Thomas/Allesandro, it was NOT A TRIANGLE NETFLIX LET IT GO. He was a player, he wasn't gonna commit to Lina so whats with that whole rejection thing....nah man.
SUMMARY
Kinda a waste of my time. Netflix, fire all the writers. I get you need to use all the quality people for OBX S3 and Stranger Things, but like this isn't okay. Even I, a high school student who struggles with creative writing, could do better than that. I want everyone to write Jenna Evans Welch an apology letter right now.

I feel so much better after getting all that out lmao
Lol 🤣 I loved reading this. I'm kind of tempted to do something like this for Along for the Ride in my book nook now lol Also a Netflix film, what do you know...
I was thinking that not a lot of stuff was changed from the book to the movie, but I'm reading the summaries for each, and they're both so different!!!!
Also, if they really wanted to make Thomas sound more 'foreign' just take away the H. Tomas, you're done lol I mean, yeah, Tomas is technically a Spanish name, but Italy and Spain are practically neighbors, so....
is my nook gonna become a movie rating topic?
Why do new marvel movies suck? It's been so hit or miss since Endgame and I just feel like they're trying to do too much.
Black Widow? Hit only because of Yelena
Shang-chi: Hit
Eternals: MISSED BY A THOUSAND MILES
No Way Home: Hit
Multiverse of Madness: Miss because what was the point in that whole thing. (view spoiler)
and I just went and saw Thor last night....
Love and Thunder: Miss
The thing is these movies could have been fantastic if they just spent more time on them. Slow downnnn it's okay we don't need 3 movies plus whatever tv shows a year.

That they have to stop The Scarlet Witch from taking away America’s power. That is thee plot.
Also, another reason I might love this movie even though it has plot holes is that I’m a sucker for Doctor Strange.

idk it's not that I don't like her I just don't understand why we should care about her. It's not like she's the first multiversal traveler.

I agree with you on that. She did come out of no where. But really, I think they just made the character so someone could have the power. I mean, they needed a plot and they thought of one. But they had to get a new character to claim the power.

That's what upsets me. Instead of creating a plot with existing characters and questions they had to bring someone new instead.

It’s a fair pet peeve, but personally I don’t mind it since it has Doctor Strange being awesome again. He’s one hundred percent my favorite marvel character. And Thor, of course. *me realizes I’m such a fangirl*
