All I've heard are the songs, everyone I know is just obsessing over Encanto...oh, yeah, I liked Frozen 2, more than the original, in fact.

I don’t really like Elisa in Frozen Two. She annoys me when she doesn’t think she belongs because, I mean, everyone is different so I do think everyone belongs. And she especially annoyed me when she kept pushing away all the people who cared about her. I loved Anna though. When I was younger, I only like Elisa. But now Anna’s my favorite. And Olaf, of course. But Anna cares about people and she wants people to be happy and safe. I find her a more pleasing character then Elsa.

Yeah I get that. I really really enjoyed Frozen 2. The plot I thought was really well paced and the music and graphics were gorgeous. (view spoiler)

I need to watch Encanto. My sister wants me to watch it. She and I were debating watching it a couple weeks ago, but we watched The Suicide Squad instead. I really want to watch it. I'm not Colombian, but I'm really excited to see more Hispanic/Latino representation by Disney as I absolutely adored Coco 😄

I've never thought of it like that. Thing is Elsa grew up being told she was different. The inhabitants of Arendelle were initially afraid of her and her powers, so of course she's going to feel as if she doesn't belong. I just thought of that as logical character development. However, I did hate how she was pushing everyone away, but she also grew up being used to pushing people away, especially Anna. Anna has always been my favorite character. Frozen is actually mine and my sister's movie. It's a movie both of us relate to. She's more like Elsa, and I'm more like Anna. I have to say that Anna's role as little sister was super relatable and exactly on point 😃 I did like Frozen 2 more than the first Frozen though, just because it was more emotional and more deep. More thoughtful. But I love both, and it isn't like the second movie smokes the first in terms of enjoyment level for me. I love them both and will re-watch both equally 💜💙

I'm not Hispanic/Latino either, but I grew up in a very strong Hispanic culture and I was really happy that they're getting the rep 💕

That's cool 😄 I am Hispanic/Latino lol 😂 (I don't think my comment was very clear) but I'm not Colombian. My maternal heritage goes back to Mexico (Zacatecas and Aguascalientes), which is one reason I loved Coco so much. That and it's just a fantastic movie.

In Coco, the tamales scene where Abuela asks Miguel if he wants more tamales, but he says no (which is the wrong answer) and she asks him again is so true. Never refuse a Hispanic/Mexican (my family is American, but we're more culturally Mexican) grandma/mother's food. In our culture, a question about food isn't really a question. It's a statement disguised as a question. My mom does it all the time. She'll ask me, "do you want a tortilla?" (or some other food item I can eat) to which I usually say no. She proceeds to ask again, wherein I ask if I really have a choice. She tells me no. So she'll ask me if I want some side in a meal or something, but it's really a statement meaning "you're getting a tortilla."

Yeah 🙂 On my dad's side my heritage likely goes back to Ireland. On my maternal side there is also Spanish and Basque heritage, the Basque from my grandfather's family (maybe my grandmother's as well, but for sure my grandpa's). What about you? Do you know where your parents' heritage goes back to/might go back to?

I absolutely loved Coco 💖 The colors, the story, and the songs....everything was absolutely perfect. It is a real tear-jerker though. I loved the familial focus of the movie though. It was really accurate and relatable.

On my dad's side, my grandpa's heritage goes back to Slovakia and my grandma's to Ireland. My mom's side goes to the Netherlands and possibly Sweden. I'm 6th generation American on my dad's side.

Slovakia!? 😮 That's cool. I'm a 3rd or 4th generation American on my mother's side (for sure been in America since the early 1900s; that's a fun family story). As for my dad's, I'm not sure. My dad's heritage might also go back to Normandy, France. It seems like his history might go back to the Vikings or something. Maybe 6th gen American on his side. I'm not sure, but it's more than on my mom's side and my dad's family has been here long enough to serve in the Armed Forces, and a few wars.

One of my grandfathers was in the Korean War, and my grandfather (my dad's dad) was in the Navy and was on the USS Forrestal during the Vietnam War. I don't if you're familiar with the Forrestal. It's sometimes called the Firestal. It was an aircraft carrier used before and during the Vietnam War. In 1967, a fire broke out on its deck due to rockets with electrical difficulties exploding. There's an entire documentary on YouTube about iit called Situation Critical: USS Forrestal. It was quite tragic. It killed 134 sailors and injured 161 others. John McCain was actually on the Forrestal. My sister and I found out about this from my father. According to him, my grandpa refuses to speak about it, most likely because he lost friends in that fire. It's crazy because that was a couple years before my dad was born.

Yeah, my sister and I watched it. It's this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfnlW...
My dad was in the Army and now has a very good job because he was in the military. He never went to college or anything and actually had to do summer school and repeat a grade in high school in order to get his high school diploma. Most of my familial military stuff goes back to my dad's side, not my mom's side as much. I don't know if any of my other grandparents on my dad's side were set out in wars, but I know those two for sure.

I want to see Tick Tick Boom. My dad wants me to watch Pitch Perfect. I’ve seen every single Lion King movie (the 1st animated one is one of my sister’s favorite movies; it’s also her birth movie [meaning it came out the year she was born; my birth movie is Finding Nemo, which I love and has good disability rep]), yep all 4 (The Lion King, The Lion King 2, The Lion King 1 1/2, and The Lion King (live action, but is really just realistic animation). I’ve seen both Frozen movies and absolutely love them. And I need to watch Encanto. I might watch it with my sister when I return home. Depending on how much time I have

Occasionally. Doesn’t happen often though gladly (9 times out of 10 I’m in the mood to read)

message 179: by [deleted user] (new)

I think it's because I don't have a reading spot anymore...I like have my own sitting area. I'll have my reading nook back soon though.
