Not an old classic, but I wonder if you have read The Welsh Girl by Peter Ho Davies. I read it recently and really enjoyed it. Another book, which is just set on the border is On the Black Hill by Bruce Chatwin. I can't recommend that one highly enough. It's a cracking read.

THANK YOU!
Hi,It’s not set in Wales, and it’s not written in Welsh either, but it is written by a young welsh female author who has a great future ahead of her.
So if you want to look her up the novel is called Claude and the Dark Force by L. M. Guy and it’s independently published.
It’s a really well written novel with a lot of levels. It’s has some really good reviews too.
Sounds like a teen novel from the title, but it’s suitable for all ages 12-102 so don’t have preconceptions.
Anyway, if any one reads it please let me know what you thought of it.
Best wishes all,
David
