Red Queen question

I love maven so much! he is my fav ever lol I dont even care that he's dark and twisty and evil he is my true love hahaha

honestly, i think i prefer Cal, but Maven is also such an interesting character. He is cruel, and manipulative (and a bit of a coward i think), but i also think (or maybe just hope) that a part of him wanted to be good, or better than he was, but i don't really think he knew how. He just makes me wonder alot, like, how much of him is truly himself, and how much of him is his mothers doing? Would he have been different if his mother hadn't been at his side constantly, and molding him into the person he became. Obviously Maven wouldn't be Maven if he was super nice, but it's interesting to think about.

Honestly I kind of hate and love both of them. Maven is way more alluring through out the books, but (spolier alert but not really) I think the ending makes Cal more interesting when he finally stands his ground for what he actually wants.

I can't ignore Maven really is interesting.
But the whole time he KNEW what he was doing, he knew what he wanted and what he did.
And yes I know he was nice and all that crap, but you know, Show.
I also don't really understand how people absolutely hate The Darkling (Same but not the point) and loved Maven.
I think their characters could be a bit aligned.
Darkling is handsome, Maven as well.
Darkling acted all nice and like the perfect man, same go's for Maven.
Darkling also acted that way because his mother told him so, not in the way that he acted but still.
Maven was influenced by his mother as well, in a different way, but he still choose to take the path his mother made him. While he could have sided with Mare and Cal.
It's not what you were born to be, but what he choose to be. And he decided to side with the bad.


WHICH LET ME LIST IT:
Tried to kill the girl everyone is saying is the perfect couple.
He even watched as they did it, he didn't protest just let it happen. Even choose it himself.
He lied and manipulated his way into the group of rebels for information.
After all it still seems like he only cares about his own blood status.

You can disagree for all I care, this is just how I felt while reading it. I still feel like this.

Also quick disclaimer: I have only read Red Queen and not the rest of the series.


Sorry this was long I just can't really understand all these people who absolutely love Maven even after all he's done.

Yea maven is very intriguing..yea I think he would have been different

I was totally into both Cal and Maven, but by the end i was full team Cal it was forbbiden love, what else could i want. But then there is that aspect for Maven which is that he is a total lunatic and that is so hot. hahahahhahahah

at the current moment i think cal wins in my heart.

i like maven more than i like cal, i think that thing of good boy in the start of the book make me woww, and the way it seemed that he really liked mare, to be honest cal is boring and stupid

Maven is an interesting character yes. But is everyone here that likes him forgetting the baby with the envelope in Glass Sword?? Because that scene still hurts. Maven didn't just hurt Mare, he hurt innocent people to get to her. And throughout most of the situations, I did blame his mom. But his POV in War Storm proves that it's a path he kept choosing. There were decisions that were his own.
OR at least he tell which ones were his or not. But in the end, he would've killed Mare. Granted yes, at one point it was no longer him. I love the Maven in Red Queen, I miss that Maven. But from then on, no. Interesting or not I can't get over his cruelty. The cruelty that put an end to a poor baby's life.

ok ok i was expecting to see everyone here side with maven (like on pinterest) but its interesting to see we're all kinda divided.

imo i dont like maven as a match to mare because of all the twisted games he played and people he hurt; it was just not okay.

buttt i dont really like cal either as at the end of the day he chose the crown over her and he can be a bit iffy about his feelings. still at least we know cal cares though and i think that matters.

sure maven is interesting and all and u could see at times he did have feelings for her but it was not portrayed in the right way and betrayal is betrayal. when u lose someone's trust u can never get it back in the same way. he never thought about his actions and didnt have any sort of moral stance; he brushed all his crimes over.
like okay not everyone is squeaky clean (inc mare cal etc etc) but its so toxic

tbh i think mare should just be strong by herself. like she dont need either of em ;)
