Woody, Bryant, Alison and Ted all believe that Kim needs to be off the case because she’s keeping these memories “in a box” and not confronting them, which they believe will allow her to move forward. Kim believes she can only survive by keeping them in a box or else they will destroy her. By focusing on catching the killer, she can “keep the demons away.” Your thoughts?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3485 comments In this case, her entire past was bombarding Kim. She needs to keep her mind focused on something else. The best way for her to do that is to work the case. It allows her to remove herself from the memories and put someone else there. Kim knows what works for her.

Lynn (ftbooklover) In earlier cases, I agreed with those around Kim that she needed to deal with the emotions associated with incidents in her past or that she would explode at some point. After what happens in this case, I'm more inclined to agree with Kim that her only way to survive is by keeping those boxes closed.

~Teresa I believe that Kim is the only one that can determine when and if the time is right or if the time will ever be right to open her “boxes”. Although she hasn’t taken the boxes out and looked inside, she is moving forward in her own way. Her motorcycle(s) are a form of therapy for her and she has taken on the responsibility of a dog which we can see she loves dearly. They are going to have to trust her and her timeline.

Well said, Teresa!

I’m with all of you, ladies. Looking at the whole of what happened in Kim’s young life and how she created herself despite it, I’m trusting her to manage how she comes to term with those demons going forward. She seems to know when she needs to talk to Ted and he’s not forcing the issue…just gently leading her on her terms.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) As we learn more and more about Kim's past it's amazing she is the functioning human being she is. The technique seems to be working so far despite being pushed to her limits at times. She is forming relationships with her team and her dog. I wonder if we will ever see her come so far to have a romantic relationship by the series end?

I thought about this. I don't know if Kim will ever grow to the point of having a serious relationship. A personal relationship will require her to pull too much out of her box.
