Luis Contreras | 60 comments Once Upon a Time in the West is a 1968 spaghetti western directed by Sergio Leone. It stars Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson, and Claudia Cardinale. It was Leone's last western and is completely separate from his already made Dollars trilogy. The film follows Jill (Claudia Cardinale) who is the widow of a recently deceased land owner of the only water source in the desert who was killed by a bandit named Frank (Henry Fonda) to gain the land. With the help from a mysterious man that plays the Harmonica, Jill must find a way to keep the land and build a railroad over it before Frank kills his way for it.

This movie takes everything great about the spaghetti western and adds a more ambitious budget and passion to it. The film was funded by Paramount pictures and filmed in the US unlike other Italian spaghetti westerns being filmed in Spain. The Cast consists of many talented and diverse actors from Italy and already famous American actors like Henry Fonda that plays a villain this time. The writing is great and you can tell a lot of passion was put into this movie and is the result of countless years of experience from members like Sergio Leone. The soundtrack is possibly one of the greatest film soundtracks of all time as it was composed by Ennio Morricone and even rivals the Good the Bad and the Ugly's soundtrack.

I rate this movie a 5 stars as this movie perfects the spaghetti western genre and is the result of a lot of passion and love for the genre.
