If you get the opportunity to hear her speak, take it, Tasha. I was really glad I did.
Yes, Salt to the Sea was also excellent, Elyse.

If you enjoy creepy books, Sundial
by Catriona Ward is currently a read now. It's read now for 72 hours, but I don't know exactly when that started. Pub date is March 1st. I really enjoyed the last book I read by her, The Last House on Needless Street.

I already got denied it so I can't get the read now. 😭 I want to read it so badly!
Excellent, Tasha! Want to buddy read in February?
I hate that, Elyse! I wish they would change that. It doesn't make sense. Maybe try to message the publisher?

I hate that too. It might help to reach out, at least it wouldn't hurt. lol

Oooh that sounds good!

Same! I have so many to review coming up, but yet... I always need to remind myself that I can read them after publication too!

Will do, but heads up, I won’t be reading it soon - publish month is May and I have three other NG books I need to read before this one!

I loved it. It is a dramatization of the Oct 1944 revolt at Auschwitz. So it is primarily set around a few days within single month i.e. Oct 1944. That makes it fast paced and hard to put down.
Also, the characters are very thought provoking. I could feel their dilemmas.

I haven’t read it either, Gunit. It does sound interesting - great you enjoyed it!
For some reason, I’m remembering a Jakub and Anna in another historical fiction book set in Auschwitz. Since this book is based a true story I’m wondering if I’ve read another book based on the same story. Anyone know?

This is also a historical fiction whose premise is based on the Oct 1944 revolt. So, perhaps this is the one you've read.
Also, let me tell you something interesting. When I googled to check if there is another book with characters named Anna & Jakub, I found that there was a real woman named Anna Langfus who survived the holocaust. She was an author and her husband was someone named Jakub!!
Chills! I have literal chills!

Yes, tragic that this all occurred, so, so sad…

Yes... One of the darkest moment of humanity... :(

I got a widget for that one as well, but haven't read the first. I haven't decided if I'll accept it yet.

The first one was really cute! There are some graphic sex scenes if you're not into that. Or if you are. lol. But you do have till May to read both! ;)
Does this one build off the other or is it basically a standalone with a side character or something like that?

Standalone with a side character from the first book becoming the main character. 99% of trilogy romances these days is that theme!

I mostly just try to read them in publication order and before the pub dates as much as possible. I'd love to read them as I download them, but I'm not a fast reader, so when I get a new book it just goes into the reading order based on it's pub date and I get to it as soon as possible.
What is your process like?

Thanks Kristie, good to hear your approach. In the past I’ve pressured myself to read them as close to when I download them - for some reason I feel I have to get to them right away even if their pub dates are further out! I’ve started to back off and pace myself. I have four books with pub dates a further out and was debating whether I should start one or hold off a bit. I have so many other TBR books I’d like to get to. You’ve helped me decide - I’m going to hold off for a bit, thanks!

I wait till a month or less before the publication date.

Glad I could help, Lilisa! I usually only read early if I have too many that publish at once and won't have time to read them all at that time or if I have a buddy read or challenge that the book will fit or something like that. I don't feel pressured to read them right when I download. I always download as soon as I'm approved though so I don't miss it.

I just read The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, finally, it was so good!! Got declined for the sequel though. 😑 Maybe Bookish First will have it in the coming months.

I just won I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys from Bookish. I haven't gotten it yet though. Super excited for it.
I've had The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek on my TBR forever, but haven't gotten to it yet.
