Anyone read Elantris? I have a burning question that needs some quenching.

Umm, I'm kind of new here and dont know whether asking such questions is allowed or appropriate. If it isnt allowed then please do pardon me.

I have been reading Elantris. I cant seem to figure out why Iadon decided to be a part of the Jeskeri Mysteries especially since he had always been suspicious of Elantrians and their magical powers. Especially, the kind of person he has been depocted to be, it seemed like a huge risk from his end.

Would be glad if anyone can help me get a hang of it.
