Read this in the 90s. Not sure of the publication date. An ex cop inherits his grandfather's rundown ranch, when he moves in there a live in caretaker and her son who is very smart. Her mother in law wants to take her son to boarding school and sends people to kidnap the boy. The ex Cop goes to town and (i think) works for the local police. He finds out the people in the city are kidnapping and killing people for their stuff. His ex girlfriend gets kidnapped by an old guy from the town drugged and raped, the ex Cop saves her and they kill the old guy.
