Drace (dracenines) | 8170 comments While browsing Twitter, I noticed an author several people I follow have been posting rave reviews for uploaded a free PDF edition of her own short story collection. It's the entire book, just as a digital file. Would this count as a separate, ISBN-less e-book edition, or is it just the same thing as the regular book?

Sandra | 31786 comments If there is an ebook already listed in the database, with the same details, we wouldn't need another edition. If the ebook you're referring to has less details than one that is already in the database, then again we wouldn't need another edition.

If on the other hand, it isn't already in the database, it could be added as an ebook.

The PDF edition doesn't have an ISBN number in it so I guess that counts as having less details than the paperback edition, but there's also no other ebook edition for the book in question (not just there's none on Goodreads, there isn't an ebook edition for it at all).

If I do end up adding this as an ebook, I have a few questions about how I should do so:

1. Since the PDF has no ISBN listed, should I just leave the ISBN blank?
2. Should the publisher still be listed as the publisher that published the original paper book, or should it be changed to something else to indicate that the author posted the link to the PDF on her Twitter account?
3. In the "edition" field of the book information, should I write something along the lines of "PDF edition" to show that it's not a standard ebook?
4. Should the page count go by the last page number in the book or by how many pages there are in the PDF?
5. Should the publishing date be the same as the paperback edition or should it be the date that the tweet was made?

Where is the PDF hosted? That may determine whether this item constitutes a valid edition on Goodreads. Posted to Twitter is not sufficient.

It's a Google Drive link posted to the author's Twitter account.

Google Drive is not sufficient either. We recently made this explicit in the Manual. See https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

Alright, thanks for the info. When I get around to reading this one I'll just use the paper book edition.

Should the author choose in the future to post the PDF on their website or another site we can consider being published, then a new edition can be added to Goodreads.
