LindaJ^ (lindajs) | 2548 comments Blood on Snow is a standalone thriller by Jo Nesbo, the Norwegian author of the Harry Hole series (currently 12 books). Supposedly Blood on Snow is the first of a two-book series with Midnight Sun being the second, but there's only a slim connection plot wise between the two. This is a very quick read - I read it in one morning.

Here is a very short video of Nesbo introducing the book -- https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=...

And below are a few reviews. The first two present quite different opinions of the book, with both comparing it to the Harry Hole series.

In a day or two, I'll set up another thread for discussion of the book where you can spoil all you want.

If any of you, like me, are fans of the Harry Hole series, did this book surprise you? Did you, like me, find it to be in a quite different style? Has anyone read the book it is compared to in the Kirkus review - Love's Lovely Counterfeit?

Chime in if you'll be reading or discussing the book.

Mark | 501 comments I'm in! Yes, it is a quick read. It reminded me of Hennig Mankell's "Depths," another tale of the perp's view of crime. For a writer of "detective fiction, " switching POV must be fun.

I read it, but not any Harry Hole, so I don't have anything to contribute on that front.

Pamela (bibliohound) | 56 comments I’ve just finished reading it too, so will be joining the discussion. I’ve read a couple of Harry Hole books.

Lily (joy1) | 2506 comments I read this about three years ago, when participating in the Popsugar program. I will follow the discussion here, but may have little or nothing to contribute. For me, was one of those diversions from the many other choices on an ever-present TBR.

LindaJ^ (lindajs) | 2548 comments Welcome Pamela and Lily! I found the Harry Hole series was a bit challenging to get into, as the first one translated into English was the third in the series. I did find it different from other thriller series. Harry Hole was in worse shape than even John Rebus and Harry Bosch! I did not find the main character in Blood on Snow to be anywhere near as complex; nor did I have to pay as close attention in reading so as not to miss an important "clue."

Some reviewers think Blood on Snow is more "noir" than the Harry Hole books, which they call psychological. Those who've read the Harry Hole series have any thoughts on that?
