It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas - 3 stars

American heiress Lillian Bowman is next up for marriage among the Wallflowers. Her parents are determined to marry her into aristocracy, and the most eligible bachelor is Lord Westcliff. But he is just as stubborn and autocratic as Lillian herself and their personalities clash constantly.

It appears Kleypas has a formula in this series - unconventional females, some magical realism, get the couple married, some exciting plot twist, then they admit their love for each other. Not a bad formula, and I liked the characters. However, I found the "magic" perfume a bit eye-rolling, and I was not pleased with one part of this (view spoiler)[- to have the hero bedding the lady when she is intoxicated is not kosher in my book (hide spoiler)]. I also could have used a bit more detail in the fight scene at the end - a good bloody fracas is always entertaining. Still, a solid 3 stars.

About your spoiler, Anna. I read a 'reissued edition'. I'm not sure, but I think there were some changes to the text that dealt with the part you didn't like.
(view spoiler)[ The way I read it, he let her sleep it off. She's compromised because she did that in his bedroom, but they didn't have sex until later when she was sober. Somehow, I got the impression that this was a rewrite for a reissued edition. I really hope that I'm right about that. Author's should be sensitive to the messages in such scenes. (hide spoiler)]
