I really enjoyed this book. Having lived for a period of time in Kenya, including spending some time in Nairobi and Nakuru, it was pleasant on a personal level to read about those places in fiction.

The book also stands as a very interesting tale about the life of the narrator. So little focuses on what Vikram does. The narrator states that he is considered a terrible person and has been written about in the Economist even, singling out his corrupt transgressions. However, these events are barely touched up

The ending of the book is a sort of cliffhanger, but the metaphore is clear, Vikram is being immolated by the world he helped create. The "in-between" space which he formerly inhabited has simply vanished leaving no quarter for him anywhere.
