SOLVED. Looking for a book about a boy with a magical shape shifting forest in his backyard he discovers. I read it between the years 2011-2015. [s]

Snail I remember the cover was very vibrant with a bunch colorful paintstripish lines all over the book in a black background the title was one word in white in the cover it was about a boy who had a a magical shapeshifting forest in his backyard that he went further and further into each time he meets a girl from a somewhat troubled home and they explore the forest together there’s a place in the forest that’s all spongy from what I remember and the imagery in this book is amazing I remember there’s a map of the forest in the book naming each place in the forest I remember reading this boom from 2011-2015 and it is not a very mainstream book when I searched this book up a few years back on amazon one of the reviews actually said that they got the book for free as some people where handing it out for free

I know it's two words but they are white and sort of close together on the cover!
A few Amazon reviews mention that they were giving away free copies of this book in their college campus. They also mention the map.
