2/6 Week 5

Unbelievably we are already into February! How are you doing with the challenge? Still enjoying it? Still 'on target'?

I'm just about managing to keep up with the reading and Tumblr reviews, but I'm ready for a couple of shorter prompts now! Maybe a little graphic novel, or a 'book in a day'...

After several weeks (on and off) of searching the loft, I was delighted to find the three books I'll be re-reading for my trilogy prompt (Cosmic Trigger) - can't wait!

I've had a slow reading week this week.

I finished Cinder which I enjoyed (although it felt a little young for me at times, with some twists easy to spot a mile off). I'll definitely be reading the rest of the series though. This was my 'A book by someone under 30' as Marissa Meyer was 28 at time of publishing.

I'm now reading my funny book, It's Not Me, It's You which is by one of my all time favourite comedians. It's taking me a bit longer to read than usual though, partly because I haven't had a chance to read as much this week and I think partly because it's non-fiction.

I don't have much to report this week. I read The Silver Lining's Playbook (color in the title), started two others, and am still working my way through a book for school. I've completed 6 books so far.

I finished my 7th book this week. The Selection by Kiera Cass. This fulfills the prompt 'set in the future'. I like the challenge. I am slowing down my pace now. I'm getting a little burnt out.

This week I finished This is Where I Leave You (I don't know which prompt to use it for though) and Americanah (one word title). I hated one and loved the other.

I've read 11 books so far, but I am definitely slowing down.

Not only do I not mind, I appreciate you starting this thread this week. I had surgery on Thursday that I thought would be easy for me to bounce back from. I've not had the easiest time, unfortunately, which is why I've suddenly been absent. I'm glad you guys know how to trudge on without me when needed :)

This week I finished Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened which I loved. It works for so many prompts for me but I'm marking it as my funny book for now. It made me laugh so hard I crried at times. I'm still working on The Silkworm and 11/22/63, neither of which I can really get into. I also got accidentally sucked into When She Woke which I'm enjoying. I hope everyone is having a wonderful time with the challenge so far!!

For the last two weeks I have been working on Rogues which is more than 800 pages long but I think I will finish it today or tomorrow. I have also been listening to Sabriel by Garth Nix which I am not enjoying as much as I thought I would, and I am almost done with my trilogy: the wee free men, a hat full of sky and the wintersmith by Terry Pratchett . It is really a 4 books series but I think I will count I shall wear midnight (the 4th book) as a book with magic or a funny book. I can't wait to start Trigger Warning by Neil Gaiman as soon as I am done with these ! I read 9 books so far.

Well, I didn't finish any books this week, but I'm almost finished with The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey. I'm really enjoying this one - I think I'm going to use it for the book that scares you. I'm also almost finished with the audiobook of One Hundred Names by Cecelia Ahern. So I've finished 8 books so far, 2 almost finished!

This week I read El Deafo by Cece Bell for my graphic novel. It is a memoir of the author's life as a little girl. Fantastic and funny. I also finished Yes Please, Amy Poehler's memoir, another memoir from a funny woman. I guess I was in a mood.

This week I'm reading The Great Gatsby for the "a book you were supposed to read in school but didn't" prompt. I'm glad I'm reading this, because I've always felt bad for not reading it when I was supposed to, because my mom loves the book so much that when she saw that it was assigned for AP Language, she went out and bought both my twin sister and me copies! I was just so busy with my robotics team (and a rotten and lazy teenager), so I just BS'ed my way through. I'm enjoying it.

I'm so behind on my list, though. This is my first book!

I really liked it. I made the mistake of watching the movie an hour after finishing it, which definitely made me appreciate the book more. The only thing I really struggled with was his relationship with therapist.

This week I finished The Two Towers which is the second book of the Lord of the Rings for my trilogy. I've also started The Return of the King to wrap up the trilogy prompt.

Not much to report, I didn't finish any books this week. I have been reading Kindred by Octavia Butler and Gone Girl. I should finish them both by next week.

So far I have finished 8 books. If I finish both books by the end of the week I will still be on track to my goal of 12 books by the end of February.

What are your thoughts on Gone Girl? It's one of my all time favorite books, but I've heard some mixed opinions on it, too.

This week I read Death at Buckingham Palace as the first part of the trilogy challenge.

I began the next-in-series for the trilogy challenge and began Around the World in 80 Days for the number in the title challenge.

I'm enjoying it. I like the writing style, the fact that there are two distinct voices telling the story, and that she switches back and forth between Amy's version and Nick's. But it isn't as suspenseful as it could have been, since I watched the movie first.
