Hey, guys, I know a bunch of you are also writers and I came across this a couple of weeks ago and decided to enter.
Hugh Howey started as a self-published author and really came to fame with his Silo series about a post-apocalypse world. To help new authors he is hosting a contest for science fiction writers. No fees, no gimmicks. But also no guaranteed publishing contract, either, just bragging rights and lots of visibility to your work. Author submissions opened yesterday and continues until July 21 or until they get about 300 submissions (so don't wait!). The work needs to be a standalone or the first in a series.
Sorry. Thought it was more intuitive than it was. Click up top where it says 'Blog.' The first entry is about the contest. Click 'Continue Reading' and it will take you to the author submission link.

The link for more information is here.
Also, Mark Lawrence runs a similar contest for Fantasy. You can find out about that here.
Good luck fellow authors.
