Spacepig Pig | 1473 comments Tech's latest faves are long running American punks, Violent Femmes.

10 albums to choose from between their first in 1983 and their most recent in 2019.

Usual thing, noms to be in by 10 pm Sunday evening, leave a link to your nom, and drop by next week to cast your votes.

Enjoy the weekend.

Craig White | 6727 comments the femmes first couple of albums struck a deep chord with those too young to have been at ground zero for punk, and were heavily into rockabilly/psychobilly. when working in record shops at the time, we couldn't keep up with the demand from this sector re these (brilliant) records.
managed to catch their live show at the turn of the century, the trio, occasionally supplemented by a horn section, were red hot and tighter than a djuck's erse, roof almost came off the garage when they performed the song i nominated.

Val H. | 22144 comments Of course these days one quarter of the Femmes is an Australian.

From Wiki:
"In 2008, Ritchie and his wife, Varuni Kulasekera, moved to Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, where he has guested in a band called The Green Mist. Ritchie does most of his work in DV (David Vartanian) Studios.

On Australia Day 2012, Ritchie and his wife were naturalised as Australian citizens.

In 2009 he curated the first Mona Foma (MoFo) festival in Hobart, Tasmania. Since 2009 he has curated Mona Foma every year. At the 2012 MoFo, he organised an impromptu performance of the entire Violent Femmes first album by a 'super band' consisting of musicians playing at MoFo: the Dresden Dolls (Amanda Palmer, vocals, and Brian Viglione, drums), two musicians touring with PJ Harvey's band (Mick Harvey, guitar, and John Parish) and with Brian Ritchie himself on bass guitar and vibraphone.

In 2010 he toured as bassist with the Australian surf instrumental band called The Break, composed of Midnight Oil members Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie and Martin Rotsey. Their debut album Church of the Open Sky was released on April 16, 2010 on the independent label Bombora, distributed by MGM.

In 2011 his home in Tasmania, designed by architect Stuart Tanner, was featured on the TV series Sandcastles."

Craig White | 6727 comments a quality list, but a pitifully short one. mibbe time to put this into stasis? or year zero? mibbe a 'greatest hits' round allocated to every nommer to repeat their favourite nomination? i dunno, but it's (with every respect to spacepig) dying on it's arse!

Collette | 6187 comments I'm guilty of not taking part in the last couple of artists threads, but I blame more it on being pre-occupied with baby catkins and vet trips etc, rather than losing interest. Or it could just be your music taste, Tech... 😬

theDuke | 6492 comments Aye, me too...been busy of late..soz. I'll try and get me votes in b4 tonite tho. But in reference to Tech's comments.....i get the feeling this argument tends to crop most summers, when folks tend to be more focused on other things during the better weather. And that'll be especially be true after what we've had to put up with over the last year or so.....so maybe things will resume to normal business later on the year. Also, when i was host of Fave Artists.....we did use to take a break in the summer and resume at the end of the school holidays, if i remember correctly. Thus, it wouldn't be a bad thing if we did that again this year, and let folks do whatever they hope to achieve when our government restores the much missed freedoms we enjoyed pre Covid, in a couple weeks time. Folks will no doubt want to make the most of it while we can...just in case things goes pear shaped again!!!

However that said..that does apply to England at moment..i haven't scooby what the Welsh 1st minister Mark Drakeford is planning....we may still be required to follow restrictions to the end of the year.

Spacepig Pig | 1473 comments 10 voters for the 6 noms! Where did everyone come from? :-)

some impressive scores and topping the lot, Val picks up the gold with 21 points for Add It Up. Tech gets to keep his own silver with 17 points for Country Death Song. Blister In The Sun picked up 11 points so Brassy gets the bronze.

A very close run thing but, no wooden spoons again.

And, not only have Einsturzende Neubauten announced a Dublin gig for next July, but I have managed to get a 2nd row centre of stage ticket!!!!!!
