gabriella (gabriella_stanton12) I'm about 75% in, and I want to point out that I love the authors writing style. Her pacing is slow, and I can't usually read slow-paced books, but her writing is so interesting that I'm always engrossed. She could just explain how Circe cooked dinner and I'd find it so interesting.

Lily (lilydapug) | 22 comments Just started this book! (Sorry it’s so late in the month, there were just so many holds on this at the library!) I’m 25% done and I agree with you about the author’s writing style. It’s very captivating. This is my first book by this author, and I’m loving it so far. I’m really interested to see what direction the story will go in. (I don’t know much about the original mythology, I went in a bit blind)

Lily (lilydapug) | 22 comments Just finished, and I loved this book! A found a bunch of discussion questions on the author’s website, maybe we can go through them? Just to get people talking and start the discussion.
Here’s the first one: 1) Circe struggles to find a place for herself as a woman in a man’s world. What parts of her experience resonate with modern day challenges that women face?

message 7: by Faith (new)

Faith Felice I read this book about a year ago. I loved it.

i just read your review and i related to it a lot. i have about 100 pages left and i just haven't gotten around to finishing it cuz it moves SO slow, and while its critically good and the writing is great im just a bit bored at the current moment. i love fast paced books with tons of dialouge and action, so this one is quite different than what I usually read. like dont get me wrong, im enjoying it because i love madeline millers writing, but i feel like the same thing has been happening throughout the whole book, y'know? it has been interesting to learn more about circe though, shes pretty cool.

TW: MENTIONS OF SA

I think a lot of moments in the book are parallels to today. We can start off with how Aeetus was seen as powerful and mighty for wielding his magic, whereas Circe was seen as deceitful. This can be compared to how girls these days are shamed for their interests, or have interests in things that are seen as "guy things". And then the book goes into how men view women when Circe is raped by the sailors. Similar to today, those men saw her as an object for their gain instead of a person.
