Bonnie (thedaylightreader) | 1284 comments Yeah I can’t stop reading another book I’ve started. I’ll finish that first and then focus on Sadie after.

message 156: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie (thedaylightreader) | 1284 comments I’m confused. Why is Sadie looking for Keith? Does she think he killed Mattie?

YES chillllll

message 164: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie (thedaylightreader) | 1284 comments How far are you with this? I, still around page 100 and honestly I’m finding it hard to continue. I just think Sadie as a character is so unrealistic and annoying. Would you really say ‘I’m gonna kill a man’ nearly every day? For no apparent reason? It’s so confusing

Bonnie (thedaylightreader) | 1284 comments I just wrote my review/ rant for Sadie! I’m gonna paste it here before I post it tomorrow. Can you tell me if it’s too harsh?😂

”I can’t take another dead girl.”

DNF-41%
Wow. It’s unbelievable how disappointed I am with this dumpster fire book. I had really high expectations for this. Needless to say, this did not live up to them one bit. This thing contained all of the things I hate in a book: unlikeable, Mary-Sue characters, crap writing and a highly unrealistic and stupid plot. I can’t believe I actually spent £6.99 and a whole lot of time on this book.

Now, I went into this expecting a fast-paced thriller with a twisty plot line and relatable, 3 dimensional characters. That is certainly NOT what I got. It took me 9 days to get to page 128. 9 DAYS!!!!!!!! I COULD HAVE READ THREE MORE BOOKS IN THIS TIME! But instead I wasted 9 days of my precious life on this thing. I could not drag myself through this any longer so me and Blobbie decided to collectively DNF this!

So, ‘the plot.’ This is what it says on the back of the book:

When popular radio personality West McCray receives a desperate phone call from a stranger imploring him to find nineteen-year-old runaway Sadie Hunter, he's not convinced there's a story there; girls go missing all the time. But when it's revealed that Sadie fled home after the brutal murder of her little sister, Mattie, West travels to the small town of Cold Creek, Colorado, to uncover what happened.

Sadie has no idea that her journey to avenge her sister will soon become the subject of a blockbuster podcast. Armed with a switchblade, Sadie follows meager clues hoping they'll lead to the man who took Mattie's life, because she's determined to make him pay with his own. But as West traces her path to the darkest, most dangerous corners of big cities and small towns, a deeply unsettling mystery begins to unfold--one that's bigger than them both. Can he find Sadie before it's too late?

Alternating between Sadie's unflinching voice as she hunts the killer and the podcast transcripts tracking the clues she's left behind, Courtney Summers' Sadie is a breathless thriller about the lengths we go to protect the ones we love and the high price we pay when we can't. It will haunt you long after you reach the final page.

Sounds gripping right? Wrong. What it should say is:
When a thick, one-dimensional radio presenter West McCray receives an emotionless phone call from a stranger, who obviously thinks he’s a private investigator, imploring him to find her ‘surrogate daughter’, 19 year old Sadie Hunter and he’s not convinced there’s a story there. Girls go missing all the time. But when it’s revealed that Sadie ran away after the never-talked-about murder of her little sister, Mattie, West suddenly has a change of heart and travels to the small town of Cold Creek to act like a PI and chase vague clues as to what happened.

Sadie has no idea that her journey to kill random men in order somehow avenge her sister, would become the subject of a boring podcast. ‘Armed’ with only a switchblade, Sadie follows non-existent clues hoping they’ll lead to the man that took Mattie’s life (which changes every 5 minutes) and make him pay with his own. But as West follows her to the ‘darkest’ most boring corners of New York’s small towns, a deeply boring mystery begins to unfold— one that’s more unrealistic and laughable than them both. Can he find Sadie before she actually kills one of these random men for no reason whatsoever?

Alternating between Sadie’s confusing, childish voice as she hunts random men from her childhood and the podcast transcripts trying to analyse the vague ‘clues’ she left behind. Courtney Summers’ Sadie is boring dumpster fire that teaches you how to choose incredible rubbish books, and the high price to pay when you do. It will haunt your nightmares long after you reach the final page (or DNF it at 41% because you can’t put up with it anymore.)

That just about says it all. If you really want to read the book, go ahead! I’m sure you’ll love it
