You are so brave to read all these third or fourth tier HR authors. It's the only way, I imagine, to find the gem among the stones, but I can't make myself do it.

Do you sign up for the giveaways here on GR? I do, but so far no luck with getting any.

Has anyone read this? It is more than I want to spend. (I skipped

I've noticed the price of all Kindle books going up irrationally. Now all I can afford to buy is the cheapies but that's not going well for me. There's a reason they are inexpensive. So I wait for the books like this Dunmore #3 to go on sale. That's how I bought #2, which wasn't all that, by the way.

message 312: by HappyBookWorm2020 (new)

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments I second OLT - there are a few authors I like to support by preordering their books, but I can wait for a sale for most books. I follow authors I like on ereaderiq. Usually there is a price drop soon before the next book comes out.

I like Netgalley. Signing up is easy. You may not be approved for the books most in demand unless you have a blog, but there are plenty of others. Eidelweiss is another review site (Above the Treeline) that a lot of people like. You may like it better than Netgalley as there is a wider range of genres available, particularly non-fiction.

They may be restricted to the USA.

That's an interesting comment, especially since I was so excited to get it from the library. Well I guess one I finish The Madness of Crowds I will see.

This may turn out to be one of my favorites by her. The plot had some turns. ETA I'm suppressing myself so as not to give spoilers.

I liked the story of the man (38) & lady (40). And no Duke in sight!

It's a six book series, so it will be solved at the end of the sixth book. Besides using some of the same people in her novels, she uses a mystery as a hook to tie them together. It's just kind of there in the backround.

message 331: by OLT (new)

OLT | 2480 comments I read The Widow. Would you say that one is typical of all the rest of the series or did you enjoy the rest more than that one?

message 332: by Carol (new)

Carol | 2793 comments The Widow is from a different series. It was the first series I read of hers. I'm learning to be more discriminating in my star awards now. I enjoy no. 1 and this one, no. 4 the most in her Stranger series.

message 333: by OLT (new)

OLT | 2480 comments I see my mistake now. If you read that Silver Linings series, how does Strangers compare to it? Better?

message 334: by Carol (new)

Carol | 2793 comments I find all of Kingswood's novels an easy, clean, traditional read. I can't say which would be better in your opinion because I'm not you. I can say that none of them are unusual, like Fresina, but I find the comforting.

I was the first person to receive this book from the library, so I didn't have to wait.
I adore this series, but then I am a big fan of Burrowes' series. I must have read the Windham books so many times, but I think my favorite book will always be My One and Only Duke or is it...or maybe.....She is that good! PS I enjoyed your review aussi!

message 339: by HappyBookWorm2020 (last edited Sep 25, 2021 02:38PM) (new)

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments I really liked them both. I'm reading the 4th one in the series right now - didn't realize I'd skipped over the 3rd until I was a third through the book. This one has a hero in his 40's - older heroes are catnip to me ever since I read These Old Shades. The heroine is a young woman in her 20's who is a singer and was involved in a scandal. She has taken refuge at The Grand Palace on the Thames.

message 342: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Just jumping in here with my opinion on Kingswood's books. I think the new series is better. I like the setting in the small village. I will have to go back and look at it again though because there was one title that seemed heavy handed with the religious tones, but I can't remember which title I am thinking of.

message 343: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Just looked at the Strangers series again. I prefer this series to the Silver Linings one. Maybe that series contained the preaching?
