A Gentleman of Questionable Judgment
I read all previous books in series. Not quite halfway on this one.
A mystery involving horse racing. The heroine's dunderhead bro makes
another appearance.

I took one of my youngest cats - a girl - to the vet yesterday. She was having great difficulty walking - actually, she can't walk. One front leg used to be weak but now it's both of them. Somehow she pulls herself around - yesterday, she had initially been on a dog bed, and when I went back in, she was on an old comforter right by the dog bed. It was bad news. He said that she likely had brain damage and may have been born with it. He gave her two months. I have medication for her, and will see if there is any improvement. If it appears that she is unhappy or suffering, I'll have her euthanized. It's making me want to cry just thinking about it. Her name is Precious and it suits her.
I keep remembering how I saw her pop out of the shrubbery last summer. On all four legs and just fine.
ETA She has two brothers and they are just fine. I also have their mother. She is smaller than her two sons. If you pet her more than twice, she'll try to bite you. I love her dearly.

Some good news:Trump Tariffs Ruled Illegal by Federal Judicial Panel
The U.S. Court of International Trade said the president had overstepped his authority in imposing his “reciprocal” tariffs globally, as well as levies on Canada and Mexico....NY Times I'm sure Trump is going to take this to the SCOTUS, but my bet they are looking for a way to stop Trump and will let the ruling stand.

Sorry to hear about your kitty. You have a good heart. We are lucky to know pure love from our furry friends.

I'm on hold for the audiobook from Libby.
The Ladies Road Guide to Utter Ruin
I finished this. I cheered on the twin sister sleuths, their
butler and associates as they met each challenge.

I listening to One Golden Summer and it's just wonderful. It's the second in a 2-book series. The first is Every Summer After, which was good, but I don't think it was as good. Anyway, you don't have to read 1 to enjoy 2.
Santa Baby by GL Robinson is free for Kindle because she has come out with book 3. I thought it was a good mystery/thriller/romance and gave it 4 stars. I have read and enjoyed book 2 and will eventually get to the new one.
I finally got the audiobook of Ladies Road Guide from the library. I enjoyed it, but missed the humor that was in the first book.
Any time I'm alone with my thoughts and don't have something that needs doing, I have to read to escape, so I have gone through so many books lately that I can barely remember any of them. Book Bub and Kindle Deals have led me to many. I have recs from the myriad I've read lately, so I'll just put them out there. At least it gives me something to do besides stew in my own outrage and hate. The Lady Brewer of London by Karen Brooks
Mrs. England by Staci Halls
Found Object by Anne Frasier
The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James
Back After This by Linda Holmes
Family and Other Calamities by Leslie Gray Streeter
All the books in the Maeve Kerrigan series by Jane Casey
All the books in the Electra McDonnell series by Ashley Weaver
Is She Really Going Out with Him? by Sophie Cousens
There are more, but the almost 80-year-old memory, you know.

A misplaced Kindle!! I have the Kindle app on my smart phone, my computer, and my tablet so I can read whenever and wherever. I need those words moving from my eyes to my brain (what there is left of it) to keep depressing thoughts from creeping in.
The news is horrendous. I keep starting books or audiobooks and they are not keeping my interest. And the weather is terrible for me. Depressed and miserable!
OLT---
I don't have a smart phone, don't have a tablet. Husband has been selling his art & I need to re-arrange the living room in a more careful manner. The basement now looks like an art gallery! One lady bought another painting. He's sold 5 pieces of art. I had the Kindle on a bookshelf. Will look again. Meanwhile reading on the cloud- not as convenient.
T-boy is pushing our allies and freedoms away. Depressing. I am trying to be
hopeful about: husbands upcoming back surgery & my losing wt to qualify
for hip replacement. My major depression most days is a drag. But there are people worse off than me.

The news is awful but I keep reading it. I'm still stunned by how quickly everything just fell apart and wonder if it will go back to normal in my lifetime. I am also wondering what happened to the Republican Party that they can go along with what Trump is doing.

One by one your average Republican has left or been primaried.
Thanks for the titles, OLT. Good to hear from you as well. I am doing a lot of rereading. I am reading Joanna Bourne's Spymaster series. I have been reading one title after another or watching crime series on Britbox. I am trying not to think about anything. I am really depressed. I can't seem to focus on much of anything. And, I keep telling myself (as you do HR-ML) that there are so many people so much worse off than I am. I also keep saying that my parents and grandparents lived through the Great Depression and WWII. We can get through a toddler dictator wannabe. It doesn't help as much as I want. My therapist says I need to breathe. She noticed that I seem to hold my breath quite a bit. I am supposed to breathe, meditate, go to bed at the same time every night, do tai chi and a whole host of things. I keep saying I will do these things and do none of them. Oh well, today is another day. I am so glad I have my kindle. Hope you find yours!

I think young Dems are starting to wake up= this might put pressure on established Dem politicos?
WW1, WW2, Great Depression were rough on all our families.
They survived? We will too? MAGA could be miffed at POTUS
for several reasons? The guard against tax on tips is only good
till 2028. Sounds childish on my part, but I'm glad AG Bondi
is getting FBI push-back. These Cabinet low-brows read liked a
bad play in an amateur theatre production. About time for T to
fire some: Bondi & Hegseth & Kennedy first?

I lose mine frequently. Do another thorough search. Retrace your steps if possible. Once I had set mine down in the linen closet and another time in a basket on the washing machine. The tablet was naturally hidden under the clothes/towels.

You lose your Kindle? I guess I'm not the only one. Kindle asked for my WiFi code. I could not recall WiFi code which I'm seldom asked about. We keep codes on Word Perfect. Anyhow our internet provider gave us a free, new upgrade a few mos. back
( it's faster) & hubs changed the code and forgot to record it?

Yeah, when I got my latest kindle fire, they asked for the wifi code and fortunately, I was able to get it from my husband.
Saw Superman yesterday. What a fun summer movie. I especially adored Nathan Fillion as the green lantern. And the dog! The superdog was awesome.
Roberta wrote: "Saw Superman yesterday. What a fun summer movie. I especially adored Nathan Fillion as the green lantern. And the dog! The superdog was awesome."Cool! We'll probably wait and watch it at home.
We went to an Apple theater. Tuesdays, the tickets are $5.95. I got popcorn, and it cost more than my ticket. lol
The last flick I saw at theater 3 yrs ago? was one based on true story of sex trafficked young girl rescued by good guys. Starred Jim Cavill? SP? He's a Christian
actor. IIRC, he was in Last Temptation of Christ. Anyhow all seats were easy-chairs/ hard to operate. Staff unfriendly. They preferred you order popcorn/ whatever from your seat. Rigid.

Correction Jim Caviezel was in The Passion of Christ & Sound of Freedom.

WSJ releases a bawdy letter Trump sent to Epstein for his 50th birthday. Me thinks the WSJ has had enough of Trump's crazy financial policies. Trump will probably sue. The WSJ is owned by Murdoch, so this may be a real crack in the MAGA trance.
Carol, we can only hope so. I would love someone to take him down; he is completely out of control.HR-ML, The seats recline and are quite comfortable and have a pull away track for snack. At least in the theater we go to.

We tried different angles on recliner, even my mechanical-minded hubs
couldn't get comfortable. They are small & independent (3 movie place locales) & have the best movie popcorn in town. Their theatre in our old neighborhood was friendliest.

It took me a while to get into it, but now I'm really liking this book from NetGalley. The setting is in the 1800's in England. It addresses some serious topics. The main female character was a slave when she was a child. A Waltz on the Wild Side
I read all of Eloisa James' books and am happy to report that she has written a new book and a story for an anthology. The anthology will be published in November and the book will be published next year. https://eloisajames.com/next/

I am watching The Gilded Age on HBO and loving it. It has beautiful sets, costumes, marvelous acting, and there is no real drama. I don't think about what is going on right now at all. What a distraction and relief.
