Kinda, sorta, but over the three books and won’t be satisfying to a romance reader. But the stories are really good.

This is a real life thing that happened in the New Zealand parliament - people got up and did a haka (traditional war dance with chanting) right there. https://www.theguardian.com/world/202...
I finished The Devil in the Marshalsea. Thanks for the rec., OLT, although I was cringing while I read it. The graphic descriptions of London and the prison in 1727 made me glad I live now instead of then. I see there are more books. So, a series to read, although I may go to a less realistic HR next to lighten up a bit.
Richard Chamberlain died. I read The Thorn Birds and Shogun and then watch the series on TV. He was so handsome. Watched Dr. Kildare, too.

My late sis told me she had a friend who worked on plays and
film ( I can't recall what capacity). Anyhow, in my early teens, sis
said this woman said Richard was gay. I doubted it at the time.
How many years did actors/ actresses and others have to hide
their true natures, or risk being "outed " or black-balled? IIRC
Richard had some of his actor's training in England where they
were big on correct accents and subtle emotions/ gestures.
I remember Dr. K with Raymound Masey as his boss. Richard
played a sexy/ naughty/ self-serving priest in Thorn Birds. Yrs
ago women were told to keep their thighs together, that
went double for priests and other predators.

So many good lookers are gay.

I'm re-reading Miss Whittier Makes a List. A young Quaker woman's ship is boarded by an English ship who is looking for Englishmen to impound. Later, her ship goes down and she is rescued by the crew of the English ship. 5 stars for me.

I liked her. Several HR authors have died of cancer. Is it the stress of the deadline? Genetics? Food choices?
I did see the notice of her passing and she will be missed.I have a number of her books.
My favourite is book 1 in Rothwell brothers - The Rules of Seduction. it's one of my all time favouorites books. For some reason this rather slow paced story, with a practical but not beautiful heroine, really resonated with me.
The Rules Of Seduction
Roberta2 wrote: "Did you all see that Madeline Hunter died on April 16th? She wrote so many wonderful HRs."I know I have several of her books, and I'd like to re-read them. I'm not even working full time, but between that and taking care of our menagerie, it feels like I have less free time then I did when I worked full time. That is probably because the hours I spent at work were less hectic. Never thought I'd miss working full time.
The different in when I worked full time vs part time is that I am trying to do more with fewer hours. :(
Just finished Broken Country. It was a really good listen. Stayed up until the early hours to finish it.
Anyone have any recs for a light read? I have the need to ignore what's happening in the world today and zone out. It is raining here--a good day to stay inside and read.

The third came out just recently: The Versailles Formula. The first is The Blue and the second is The Fugitive Colours. They are inexpensive at 99 cents for #1 and #3, and $3.99 for #2.
Why not try a Katherine Ryan Hyde book like Have You Seen Luis Velez?.Broken Country is easy reading, not really light, but it was very engrossing.
I was it the same state of mind as you, so I reread Something Wonderful
HR-ML wrote: "OLT---Message #3226. The 3 books you listed are free w/ Kindle Unlimited, in the USA."
Hoopla has the audiobook and Libby has the eBook. TBR
I have the Planche books 1 and 2 but have only a vague memory of reading them. So, did I read them or did I just read the blurb about them? I hate that. I have read The Unknown Ajax. Again, not one of the Heyer's I remember well.
Hmm. There is a pattern here that I don't like.
The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies
This was 1st in series. The 2 middle-aged twin sisters became sleuths in the 1st.

I just finished listening to More or Less Maddy. I enjoy Lisa Genova books and this was no exception. Rec.
Well, I had read the Planche books 1 & 2. I skimmed them to remember the plots. Yesterday, I read The Versailles Formula which I enjoyed. It ended abruptly; I'm assuming she is writing a fourth?

Most of the time when I saw Joe Biden give speeches or interviews, I thought he was just fine. He actually had far fewer lapses than Trump has and continues to have. As for the uproar about his difficulties when he and Trump were on TV together, he had just returned from travelling out of state for another event and had some kind of upper respiratory ailment. He's an old man, he was exhausted, and he was sick.
My opinion is that every person running for public office should have to pass a competency test, and not by someone they chose. An age limit would not hurt but some people start losing it earlier than others. It wouldn't hurt to have candidates tested on the knowledge they need to have to do the job they are running for. I sincerely doubt that Trump would pass that test or the competency test.
This is an article about what led up to Biden's poor showing at the question and answer session.

I really do wish that Biden had not run again, given the outcome, but who do you guys think could have beat Trump? And what really kills me, is why people - particularly women - would vote for a man with DT's reputation for abusing women?

It may be because of the long-debunked idea that somehow it was the woman's fault, like how she dresses, acted, or where she went.
Roberta wrote: "Woman voted for a sexual assaulter over a competent, intelligent woman. And they did it twice."Yes, they did. I will never understand it.
