HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments I'm still listening to A Year of Ravens. It's the most violent books I've ever read/listened to. It's also excellent. I am so glad I didn't live during that time.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I just finished the 4th book in Elizabeth Kingston's Welsh Blade series. It is a slower pace than the other 3 books. I still really liked it but not as much as the first 3 (loved all of them). But, I read it in one sitting; guess I can't downgrade it too much. She writes so well. I think I didn't like the main characters as much in this book, but they are definitely complex and interesting to read about. Highly recommend.

I haven't read Veronica Speedwell but I did read 3 books of Lady Julia Grey and enjoyed them. VS is on my TBR list.

Nothing looks super appealing. If you find one you like, share the name, please. I see that there's a romance by Emma Barry. I have read two series by her in the past, one about people working in politics and one about astronauts in the 60s or 70, and liked those two. But then I tried a few newer ones and wasn't as fond of them.

I have read all the Veronica Speedwell books except for the last one. I always wait for them to be offered at $1.99. The latest one is being stubborn as to price. As to quality, they aren't bad. If I had to pay full price, I would say not worth it. Sometimes the female protagonist annoys me. But then Lady Julia of her previous series started to annoy me the further along the series got. Must be me?

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I read the first book in the Veronica Speedwell series. It held my interest but it irritated me, the plot in particular, and the 2 main characters as well. I still may read the second in the series. But, I definitely will get it from the library.

Carol---

He's dealing w/ memory, stamina, vision issues. Strangers call him a coward or traitor- he was neither. He broke off w/ curvy, smart Hyperia before he went to war. They were not engaged. They are friends who've grown closer emotionally. She gave him a handsy kiss & by grabbing... They have admitted mutual love. The rom is slow. She fears childbirth & he's been impotent since the war. He's feeling stirrings of desire.

Jules is next in line to the duke.

Yes, that was all in the first book. Does the friendship continue in the following books and eventually romance?

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments I recommend A Daughter of Fair Verona - has some romance but mostly family and mystery. The main character is the daughter of Romeo and Juliet. I enjoyed reading it, where Romeo and Juliet didn't die - they got married and had enough children to embarrass their oldest daughter. She is one of the main characters of the book.

Carol----

They remain friends. And now love.

The romance is slow, but they are getting there. Her touching his jewels while kissing him was not in the 1st book. They were interrupted-natch. It could use more romance. She had a few lovers while Jules was away at war - she wondered what was all the fuss about- I'm hoping soon the 2 can be alone and make love- not just have sex.

I want to read that series. I think I have most of the books. Unfortunately, I haven't had a lot of time to read the last few weeks. We are leaving shortly to buy a mattress ... I hope. My husband is one of the 'let's do it tomorrow' group.

We went to three stores and bought a king-sized mattress and the box it sits on. It was a lot more expensive than I remember our last one was. I'm looking forward to having it delivered. We are sleeping on a double bed right now, which is way too small for us.

Well, another tale of plumbing woe. It's not the copper. There is a pipe in our concrete foundation that has disintegrated. The plumbers who came back the next day with a longer snake found the spot and could go no further. They hit mud.

They said that the pipes *in our slab* will have to be replaced. It involved tearing up the concrete from the kitchen through my computer room, through the foyer, and through my son's den, replace those pipes, and then repair the concrete floors. Then we would need to replace the flooring. The brand new flooring.

The two bathrooms and the laundry room are all okay.

Monday I'm going back to work for a few weeks to help my coworker who took over for me to help her get some things worked out, and to write some better notes for her. It's not full time. I'm not too sure how it works, but I suppose they will let me know.

Tuesday I have a fencing company representative coming - want to see if they will put up some fencing on two sides of our fence and a new gate. We have a dog who wants her yard back.

Thank you, OLT. I hope you are right. My poor son is having to move all of his aquariums - many - out of his den so that the contractors can bust up the floor in there. :(

At the end of it all, maybe we'll be able to use the kitchen sink and dishwasher. It's nobody's fault - the water wasn't cut on while the demolition and rebuilding was done, so no one knewn about the problem.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments You know, about our plumbing issue with no usable kitchen sink, I actually considered seeing if we could put a dishwasher and a sink in the laundry room - hey, they already have hot and cold running water piped in, and drainage.

I don't think the room is big enough, plus, imagine trying to sell the house with those features. Plus the non-working sink in the kitchen.

message 3095: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments HappyBookworm--so sorry you have to go through all that. And living in the house with all that going on. Such a pain.

We had our well pump go last week; we had to install a new one; we didn't have water, but it was for 2 days only and then we had to not drink the water for another few days. That was nothing in comparison to what you have to get through.

Ouch about your pump going out and not having drinking water. My family had a well growing up and it was not fun when the pump went out :(

Our sink situation is not so bad. We are getting used to washing dishes in a bucket and rinsing them in another bucket. At least we can wash and dry our clothes, and the bathrooms aren't affected.
