We had 9 inches of snow on Sunday, and the last night rain and wind, and most of the snow is gone.

Was windy here last week. Back garden fence got blown down. Had quite a few floods in places around the country.
Roberta2---
Too much snow. the news said there are floods too in your state.
Shaz--
A powerful wind.
All this extreme weather IE tornadoes in Florida, extreme wind and snow,
reminds me of the old butter commercial- "Be Nice to Mother Nature."
Or was it "Better not mess w/ Mother Nature?"

My husband and son are watching The Terror which is a fictionalized version of Sir John Franklin's lost expedition in the Arctic in the mid nineteenth century. They were trying to navigate the Northwest passage, which didn't turn out well for them. The two ships were found in 2014 and 2016. My son commented on how short a time span it took for the ice to thin. Now, they can cross in the summer. I read the first time it was completely ice free was in the summer of 2007.
We had freezing weather for several days but right now it is 54 degrees outside. Tomorrow night it is supposed to go down to 34 degrees. :( It kills me because my outside cats in Montgomery have nowhere to get shelter - although they can get under the eaves once the workers have left, and the house is wide open and they could go into it (they don't). We have a shingled roof now. I say this like it makes a difference that we aren't living there, but Thomas Andrew and Zebadiah would rather be in the cold than in the house. They have sung the song of their people many times when I tried to keep them inside.
Lol. Our lab, Roxie, was in heaven on Sunday in the snow. All the snow is now gone. She has nothing to frolic in.
Roberta2 wrote: "Hey, is it just me or has Amazon made it more difficult to find deals on kindle?"I can get to the Kindle deals pages as easily as before but it's hard for me to find deals on the books I want. On the first Amazon page, I click on Great on Kindle for You and then get to a page where I can choose from Kindle Book Deals, Kindle E books, Best Sellers and More, etc.
If you are looking for specific books or following an author, you could try ereaderiq. You can sign up to get emails for books or authors you follow when the price drops by a percentage you set. https://www.ereaderiq.com
I have BookBub on my phone also (bookbub.com) and that notifies me of books on sale daily. You can also put specific books in a wishlist there and it will let you know when there is a reduced price for them.
Roberta2 wrote: "Thanks, guys. You think I would have sussed all this out by now."Nah. Nice to have more than one source to look for books on sale. Book prices have gotten crazy!
One of my favorite authors has a new book out, but I'll wait until the price drops, probably sometime next year. The book is a novella, not a full length book. It's $12.99 and 149 pages. Mislaid in Parts Half-Known
This is one of those series I buy when they are on sale. Part of my retirement plan is to read series. Murder on Bedford Street 1.99
I like reading series. I like to here how characters from previous books are doing. If they are long series, I tend to have a break after about 4 or 5 books. Then go back after reading other books. My favourite are historical romance, though I like reading some modern romance books for a change.
Get the audiobook for Guncle from your library or put it on hold. The author reads it. It's funny, touching, and so good. I know there is probably a wait, but wait! The eBook was a DNF. On recommendation, I downloaded the audio. What a difference!

Book series. Sometimes I see that a character drastically changes personalities from book 1 to book 2. Such as one man was witty & optimistic, and in bk 2, he was angry
and resentful, before he really knew the heroine. So does the author want us to root for the angry man, b/c he will gain his optimism back after the + influence of the heroine?

Changed my mind. I'd only give this 3 stars. Started out great though.
I recommend this unforgettable book. A story of a couple who lived in Wyoming in the early 1900's and tried to make a living out on the plains, where the wind never stopped. It just about broke my heart. https://www.amazon.com/Where-Coyotes-...
I think I've recommended this before, but I liked this audiobook a lot. https://www.amazon.com/Everyone-Famil...
He's got another book out (Everyone on this Train is a Suspect) but I'm waiting for the audiobook.
I read this book and highly recommend it. Written by Catherine Ryan Hyde, one of my favorite authors and one of the few who leave me with a feeling that I've become more empathetic. Or something like that. (There's a reason I'm not a writer.) It is currently on sale for 2.99 in the US. It's also available on KU. Just a Regular Boy

Her novels are easy reads with satisfying endings. Many of her novels are KU with a choice of listening to the audio. She is a prolific writer and I'm always amazed at the diversity of her stories and characters. Never the same old, same old. Have You Seen Luis Velez? and the more recent A Different Kind of Gone are very good.
OMG I already posted much of this last month, or early this month! I am so sorry! I promise I checked comments but missed this one. But I don't think I had the KU suggestions on here.OK, some HR KU suggestions, Wendy Vella. Lightweight but fun.
Courtney Milan, especially the four books of the Brothers Sinister and the Turner series. I enjoyed her others, but these two were my favorite. Milan is half Asian and she eventually brings her books to Asia in a most enjoyable way.
Some excellent Mystery KU, The Angie Pallorino Series by Loreth Anne White and all standalones after that, Anne Frasier's Elise Sandburg short series. Actually anything by these two authors.
If I seem a stranger, it's becasue I really have been away from gr, this has been the year+ of death (MIL being closest, then the rest being one degree away-just too many was the problem) and losing the use of one leg for 3 months, which really sulled me up.
Maureen, I am sorry you suffered so many losses last year. I hope your leg is healed. Hopefully, 2024 will be a much better year.

So sorry, Maureen. Take care with your leg.

Ah, I forgot to mention my Christmas miracle. I woke up Christmas morning and all was fine. the PT worked!

How marvelous that your leg is better! And I am so sorry for your losses.
Happy, I finally got Sign for Home from the library. And WOW! It was so good and eye-opening. Really, really recommend it!

Carol wrote: "Happy, I finally got Sign for Home from the library. And WOW! It was so good and eye-opening. Really, really recommend it!"I'm glad you liked it. It's such a unique book and so joyous. There was one part of the book that I dearly loved but I can't remember the details! Okay, I looked it up.
From my review: "When his mother got sick, his uncle took him away from his home and put him in a boarding school for the deaf and blind. While he was at the boarding school, he made friends and also fell in love. I absolutely fell in love with Arlo and the two boys who were his best friends. When they went on adventures, Arlo had the most sight so he would take the lead (with his white stick) to check for obstacles. The other two formed a chain behind him, with kid2 holding his shoulder and kid3 holding kid2's shoulder. They were so excited and happy. One of them had been born with no eyes at all, and the other one was called Big Headed George because his head was huge. They talked about girls, and all the things that young boys on the cusp of puberty talk about. With everything they had against them, they were so adventurous and joyful."
Just finished listening to The Mostly True Story of Tanner and Louise. Very enjoyable. Grew to like the characters. Invested in the mystery.
I downloaded a Marsha CanhamThe Iron Rose. It's only 99 cents @ Amazon. I apparently read a few of her books years ago and have vague memories that I really liked them. So thought I would give this title a whirl.
I think I posted my last great red in the wrong place, so I'm posting it again here. The Hard Truth About Sunshine by Sawyer Bennett just blew me away. It's not her usually romcom. I even left a review. Just loved it. Oh, I listened to it and the reader was great. Got it from hoopla.

I tried the first Murderbot book and quit. I just didn't get it. I'll try it again when I'm lacking something to read.
Carol wrote: "I tried the first Murderbot book and quit. I just didn't get it. I'll try it again when I'm lacking something to read."I read so much scifi when I was young. I think I read everything that Robert Heinlein ever wrote, Arthur C. Clark, etc.
There's quite a bit of the background in the Murderbot universe that I don't completely understand, other than that corporations rule as much or more than political entities now and space destinations may not be to planets or asteroids, but complexes in space built by bots whose appearance depends on their function. They may be huge. Sec bots (security robots) also have human tissue. The sec bot who gave himself a name (Murderbot) is self-aware and can make his own decisions. Once he became self-aware (due to some damage he incurred), he hacked his governor module so that he isn't compelled to obey orders.

That's about how far I got. I read very little sci fi. Some Michael Crichton, but only because it was on the NYTimes best seller list and that's what i mostly read. Andromeda Strain scared the living daylights out of me, so I gave up sci fi, I gave up Twilight Zone after In the Eye of the Beholder.
For upcoming Valentine's Day, Amazon has a bunch of contemporary and historical romance novels on sale. Here's the link (I hope it works):https://www.amazon.com/s?i=digital-te...
You can find goodies like Judith Ivory's The Proposition and Black Silk for $1.99, Karen Ranney's Till Next We Meet, and so much more.
Relentless Pursuit: My Fight for the Victims of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell Recently re-read this one.
In the Name of the Children: An FBI Agent's Relentless Pursuit of the Nation's Worst Predators Started this one.
