HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments Dang it, I have an image of how to write a three sentence review, and I can't paste it here. :(

When I'm not so beat, I'll type it out for you. It has three questions, and all you do is to answer the questions. It is a great starting place for a review.

I did find this: https://www.booktrust.org.uk/books-an...

HBW----

Did you like this book & why? Who would this book appeal to?
IE history buffs, someone on a budget or enjoys sci-fi. Did the
book keep your interest?

The 3 sentence one I have also gives examples after the question/sentence. It's very similar to yours. Here it is without the examples. I like having some structure so that I don't veer off into book report territory or spoiling the book for the reader.

1) What can you expect from the book without spoilers?
2) What was unique/awesome/moving/exciting about the book (no spoilers)?
3) Using a better known author or a genre, which readers do you think would enjoy the book?

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 319 comments I read the comments on books. If they go to far into the story, I stop reading, as I don’t want to spoil the story for me.
If I read steamy in comments, I normally don’t bother reading them.
If I am reading a book and they go on to much with steamy dialogue. I just skip the pages. I am more interested in the story.
It’s more refreshing to read a clean book, that leave the bedroom scene to your imagination 😂. The old bodice rippers are better than today books.

I also prefer closed door or tempered steam. It drives me crazy when 1/3 of 275-page book is steam. I want witty banter or character growth, anything besides filling the story with sex scenes. Sometimes a sex scene is significant to the story but to then have repetitive sex scenes, lessens its original importance. And honestly, in what world does a man's "pole" stand up every time he sees the h? Maybe if the H is 16/y/o, not 8 and 20.

Shaz & Carol---

Years ago as a social worker I had elderly clients (my favorite kind).
I'd make about 5-6 home visits a day depending on the day.
One lady showed me her romance books. In the top corner
of the page if a scene was too sexy she wrote "no no no" &
skipped it.

I will also download a few rereads in case I can take a nap on the plane, which is unlikely, but hope springs eternal. To all who celebrate Turkey Day--hope it's just a good meal with friends/family and no drama.

Remember the Damian Seeker series by S.G. MacLean? I liked it and think you enjoyed it too? There is a new book kinda in the series: The Winter List. I started it yesterday and am not sure if Damian makes an appearance because he fled to the Americas when King Charles II showed up for the Restoration. So far it's about Damian's daughter and her lawyer husband, who may be in danger because people of the restored monarchy are seeking revenge on Cromwell's men and are trying to find out Damian's whereabouts. I bought it on sale a while ago but it seems to be at regular price now, about ten bucks.

Carol and Shaz, I also want to read books with plot, character development, and a slow growing mutual attraction. I'm perfectly fine with one love scene - closed door - or none.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments Best romance I've read in a long time. I'm almost halfway through it. The hero and heroine *talk*. I wasn't too fond of some of the books in the series, but this is outstanding so far. The hero is a Welshman, a member of Parliament, and she is the daughter of a rural clergyman who is not well, which is why she is in London - to find a husband.

The heroine and the hero are both staying at The Grand Palace on the Thames. Available through NetGalley.

I think you'd like the one I'm reading now. I wasn't crazy about some of the other ones myself. ETA there are a few things I'm not crazy about - I'm just going along with the story. She is staying at a boarding house and being invited to balls. She leaves parties by herself and hails a ride to get back to her boarding house by herself. Lots of things that young girls going to balls just didn't do at that time.

I like JA Long. But this series felt too much the same. I'm unclear if I'll read #7 when it comes out.

Carol--
I've not read. I'd never pay that much for a romance. Non-fiction books are that price or more. I could check the library?

Happy, Try your library's DTB's. I do so every now and then.

I checked the Montgomery website and you have Cloud Library, which doesn't have Chem now. Our library system used to use Cloud but stopped because people wanted to read their eBooks on Kindle and got Libby instead. I checked your eBook selection and found you have the audio version of Death in Siena. So jealous!

Who wrote Death in Sienna? I couldn't find it on Amazon.

I was looking in my public library for books in series that I wanted to read - since I am not fond of paying 14+ for ebooks. No dice. I have most of Patricia Brigg's books but not all. She has two series, one is very long running. Also The Others series (fantasy) is one of the best series I've ever read. Anne Bishop has published a collection of short stories and one of them is a story set in The Others' world. I'll wait until it goes on sale. :(

I borrowed the eBook, Other Birds, on someone's rec. It's supposed to be a magical realism, but I'm not far enough in it to say much about it. So far, so good though. And I found I have an earlier eBook of hers, which I bought when it was cheap and forgot about it. Too many books.

Today I thought my head would explode. The depression, the physical
limitations, the pain, no luck on parttime job and Texas. I had an anxiety attack yesterday and almost 1 today.

Yrs ago my late Grandpa bought a Texas property. I am 1 of 5 joint owners
(originally it was 11!) & we signed a contract and the buyer was supposed to
close 10/31 & got an extension for 12/05/23. Anyhow the title company has drug it's ass for 2 months. Yesterday they told my brother & me to each sign a specific legal paper & send the original next day mail ( or whatever) to get it there on time. The title company has been uncooperative w/ my brother & his attorney, who charges $500. an hour!

I did my various jobs, & was pro-active as poss. Sorry some of these Texas
dim-wits are driving me crazy!!!!! Funny some stereotype Ohioans
as all dumb farmers. I'd pick a farmer any day over a last-minute title co. dunderhead. Farmers know weather/ soil/ irrigation/ bugs/animals/ farm equipment/ market prices etc etc. Off my soap box.

The local news had a story on a barber who built a rapport w/
kids with developmental disabilities. Some didn't want to sit still,
some didn't want a person in his/ her personal space. He showed
he could be trusted and gave away 300 free haircuts in the process.
A heart-warming story.

I'm somewhat better today. Thanks for your concern.

Prices. Before the COVID, I got a foam soap refill for $5.99,
now one store has it for $8.99 and the other $10.99. They
probably blame the supply chain?

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments I'm reading an excellent book by Catherine Ryan Hyde - everything I've read by her has been exceptional. The title is Life, Loss, and Puffins. It's available in NetGalley. Description:

"Freakishly smart. That’s the unwelcome box Ru Evans is put into for life. After all, she taught herself Euclidean geometry at age seven, has an eidetic memory, and is about to enter college at thirteen years old.

Boarding at a house near campus 150 miles from home, Ru meets seventeen-year-old Gabriel, an outsider himself who, like Ru, has trouble making friends—until they form a fast sibling-like bond. Finding a relatable someone in the world to talk to is a first for both of them.

But when Ru’s mother dies and the threat of living with her miserable aunt looms, Ru hatches an escape. It’s an impulsive road trip that takes Ru and Gabriel from California to Canada, where Ru can fulfill her ultimate dream: to see Atlantic puffins in the glorious wild.

Mile by mile, Ru discovers the joy of friendship, found family, dark night skies, and the aurora borealis, and she basks in going from being a smart person to just a person. Though she knows they’ll be in trouble when they’re caught, for the short time they are navigating twist by twist of an unknown road, the freedom is liberating, and she is living for what feels like the first time."
