Discussion of HR and other books. And recs.

I listened toThe Other Bennet Sister and enjoyed it immensely. It may have been a little too long, but it kept my interest. The reader was fantastic. I feel it deserved a full 4 stars. Maybe even 4.5.

Carol, the ebook for Miss Delectable is free on US Amazon right now.

Welcome, Joan! We are a pretty laidback group - I hope you enjoy it here.
Her Baseborn Bridegroom
Reading this one, which I did not read on Kindle, deleted and had to
get again.

I enjoyed it and gave it a 4 rating. I started reading the second one in the series and gave up. Didn't like H or h or the queenn's court setting.

Did you see the 2013 movie BELLE about Dido? I recommend it, if not.

Historical Romance Review with Regan Walker
The criteria for above author's heroes
1) Make him handsome, preferably a bit rugged.
2) Give him an edge.
3) Make him manly, athletic, or at least able to handle himself in a fight.
4) Make him arrogant, at first.
5) Give him a soft underbelly, love for an animal or kid.
6) Give him an obstacle to overcome IE regain a title,
solve a mystery, a dangerous mission.
7) Make him slow to see that he needs a good woman in his life.
8) Make him reluctant to admit he's wrong.
9) Tell us how wonderful he is ( through the eyes of others).
10) Make him good at making love.
What do you think?

Sounds good to me!
HBW--- Many men are arrogant, so that is a given. LOL!
For me I'd say:
3) He needs to be able to defend himself or his lady.
Bk I gave up on: BMF was good w/ a sword, not his fists.
Too much politics & confusing so I stopped.
5) though 7)
For some reason one story was odd: the warrior H was 28 &
still a virgin. His sire had been a manho.

Just started this one. I like the MCs."
I've re-read that series so many times.

Yikes.

Carol, I put the books on my KU list. I like the way the author writes.

I'm so surprised you know of him. He has such a small following here and on Amazon. I loved all his books, except One Hit Wonder. I think that was his first attempt, so I forgive him.

I personally am done with Lisa Kleypas and the Ravenels. Maybe someday if she abandons all the Wallflower and Ravenel characters and starts something entirely new I might pick her up again.

The Fire in the Glass

I had never heard of him before you mentioned him here, but I read an excerpt from one of his books on Amazon -liked his way with words.

Roberta2, I read that one and sadly, don't remember too much about it - which is better than remembering that I hated it. However, I read a page or two of it, and think I will re-read it. For a dollar, I think I'd take a chance on it.

Lisanola---
Welcome! The Cameron books I enjoyed best were the stories of Clarissa, Euphemia & Georgette. But I know my opinion is subjective. Beth was so so to me.

BJ, that sounds good. I like spooky.

#226 - *The Skylight* is above my $ limit for e-books, but it did lead me on to other books that are suggested below, and I found a book that is free (done by volunteers). It does have quality issues but I am hoping they won't put me off.
It is *Cranford * by Elizabeth Gaskell and I loved the British TV series of that.
And that lead me to the trilogy *From Larkspur to Candleford* by Flora Thompson, which was a fantastic British series my daughter and I watched when it screened on TV. This was under $3.00 for me so I bought it.
I would never have found these books if I hadn't looked for the one you recommended, so thank you very much. I am delighted with my new purchases.

Huh, but glad you found an ebook to read.
Most of Carillo's ebooks are 2.99 or 3.99. Skylight Room just came out so it's a dollar more, but it will come down I'm sure. I don't think it's your kind of novel anyway. It takes place in NYC village in the 1950's and now.

Carol,
For me the Kindle price on Amazon is nearly $6 - $5.87 I think. (My memory is getting shocking!)

But @HR-ML have you read Honoria? I think that was my favourite after Clarissa.
Lisanola---
Honoria and the Family Obligation
We discuss any book, any time. Funny you brought up Honoria,
I just finished her story and enjoyed it. Right after I finished 3
serious non-fiction books in a row. The one about the FBI guy
& murder: I like how they put the puzzle pieces together to
catch the bad guy, but some descriptions were too gross.

For the last few years, she has been struggling with an autoimmune disorder and had essentially stopped writing. She just published a book she has had in the pipeline for a year or two. I hope she gets well enough one day to start writing again.
