I don't like that either. A story about a dog who lives a long good life with his family would be good.

I liked this one. It was narrated by the dog.

Happy, It's on sale now for 4.99. I haven't really tracked the price It is available from your library through hoopladigital.com in audio or ebook form. Support Your Local Library!

Shaz---

When a pet dog, cat, cow, whatever gets neglected or abused
in a romance, it ruins the story for me. The hero rescued a
one-eyed dog in a recent rom I read.

Gabriella by B. Hiatt was a rom where the heroine learned
so much from her late sire who was a veterinarian. She
accused the hero of abusing his horse- not true.

I don't like a pet monkey in a rom. They are wild animals
and can really hurt a human or animal, if feel threatened.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments Dogs are wonderful. I have a real life dog story with a happy outcome. One of my coworkers asked me if I could take her chihuahua, who was living in a crate outside, and fed and watered once a day. She was also let out for a little while to run around and do her business. My coworker would clean her crate since she may have not been able to hold it for 24 hours.

Bear in mind how hot it is. This is Alabama, and the heat index today is 109 until around 8PM.

I could not take the dog since I am living in temporary housing and the owner almost had a stroke because we have 6 animals already in a 1300 square foot house. I found a good couple who would take the dog, but in the meanwhile, my coworker's parents said that they wanted her.

She is now living inside, in an air conditioned home, and her new parents and their grandkids love her. She's very skinny but getting better. She has already been to the vet.

My coworker is a very nice woman but she lets her family push her around (my opinion), and she has to live with family for economic reasons.

Tony Bennett

An American original has died. I saw him and Lady Gaga
on PBS or CBS ? practice for his last NYC concert w/ her.
His memory was fading but Gaga & he improvised as
needed.

When I worked in a nursing home, a new patient came in.
He was severely beaten and could have died. Family said
"I Left My Heart in San Fran." was his fav. song

Well, HR-ML and Roberta2, it wasn't me. It was my coworker's parents who stepped up when the family was faced with losing the dog. She is being spoiled rotten, which is only right. I was so relieved that she is in a good place. I also told my coworker that I would step up if it ever fell through for whatever reason.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments We had unsettled weather yesterday. I read 2 old Sheila Bishop regencies on Open Library. I enjoyed both titles.

A Speaking Likeness
A Well-Matched Pair

Both were short reads that ended abruptly the way older regencies often do. I liked the way the characters were written. They seemed more realistic than most current regencies.

I don't understand people who abuse other people, particularly the serial rapists, the serial killers and the traffickers. Women abuse too but it does seem to me that more men are apt to do this. Or maybe they are more apt to be caught. I don't know.

Women Helping Women.

This non-profit serves folks who are victims of domestic violence, stalking, etc. They changed their name because victims come in all genders. They changed their name back b/c the public demanded it. New name was confusing. They serve all people. That would be a sad job but rewarding. We know some perps don't honor restraining orders.

I don't know what happened to them after that evening. I do know that charges were rarely press. The abused weren't usually ready to leave, so all I could do was give them info of a safe place to go. Rape victims were given the morning-after pill and a rape kit stuff was done. Charges most often weren't usually pressed. I'm guessing going through another ordeal was not good ideal for them.
NJ was very early enacting laws of support for women. I hadn't realized that so many states didn't.

I felt like I was helping a little. I had to stop when my RA started acting up and I just couldn't get myself going when it got late. I know a lot of people didn't like It ends With Us but I thought it kind of showed how a woman will go back and forth before finally deciding to leave.

Even reading this makes me feel so helpless. It is just ridiculous to me that it is so hard to prosecute rapists. I'm glad these women have people like you to help them.

I understand what you mean about women not leaving when they should. Sometimes they think they can 'reform' them and I have seen myself a girl I knew in college who couldn't wait to go back to the guy who had given her a black eye - to take up the fight again.

HBW---

Women & kids & pets deserve good treatment. Men are victims too. In my 2nd
mental health job, the young relative of our out-patient lady (who came for group) was
murdered by her ex after he destroyed her cat. Her kids were @school. It was incomprehensible to all in group the violence which took place. How could our lady
sleep at night? We gave her extra TLC and told her she could talk to us in or out of group or pass on sharing. How do you prevent this?

The world can be cruel.

It's not only men but it sure seems like they commit the great majority of these atrocities. And the 'law' moves far too slowly. A woman may know that her husband can not be trusted with their children, but the court may set hearings months away, and there you are. She can refuse to give him visitation, and end up in court herself - and he would still have access to the children. I'm just guessing as thank God, I've never been in this situation.

I don't think that's it. It's about control and power over another person. Rape and abuse has always existed, but it was rarely reported. The government stayed out of marriages and rapists were thought to be led on by the woman who was rapthings.ed. Some people still believe these falsities.

They stopped allowing comments on reviews maybe 4 or 5 years ago, I think. That's the main reason I came over here to Goodreads. Not only did it become impossible to comment at a review, but they also deleted all old comments at all reviews. I wonder if the powers that be at Amazon consult with Ron DeSantis about policies.

Some of the biggest tells that you should not get close to this person are when they always want to know where you are, show up unexpectedly where you are, and possibly have a friend who shadows you. I ran into that in college.

HBW- being stalked by someone is creepy. Sorry you were subjected to this & more.

My late friend's spouse was v controlling. He knew she was super
independent. Once they wed, he said sell your car, I'll drive you everywhere.
She kept her car. One day he flipped and removed labels from all canned goods & chopped down their mailbox. He went to the psych ward. The first day I met him - he said he was an alcoholic- rare as I was a stranger. They got divorced. A few yrs later he killed himself in the bathtub and no one found him for days. Which told his ex, and
me also that he was socially isolated. My friend was lively and smart and Phi Beta
Kappa (SP?): what did she see in him? He had a dull effect & no humor. She wanted to 'rescue' him?

This is usually how it starts. For many the attention paid in the beginning is flattering but than it starts to morph into controlling. Your friend was gutsy and lucky to nip it inn the bud. Many women are afriend of what will happen to them financially, physically, to their children, and/or have accepted that they're not a very capable person, It IS usually a financial hit. It is not so easy to leave and very scary for many.

But people of all education and socioeconomic types can be murderers.
