I liked your review. Yikes. That's a lot of bad blood between the two families.
Watched Judy Bloom Forever on Amazon Prime. Excellent! I did not realized her books were banned when Reagan was president. I volunteered in our school library then and they were the hottest books. Not banned.
Roberta2 wrote: "Any new recommendations? I am searching for an HR or HR mystery that's a decent read."The Bookseller of Inverness It's by the author of the Damian Seeker series. It has been on sale for 99 cents for a week or so. Hope it still is. I liked it.
For some reason, I thought that author had died. I think I'm confusing the Damian Seeker series with another series.
My husband is working tomorrow. I will save it for then, because, as I recall, I won't want to be interrupted at all. My husband is busy going through Stephen King's backlist.
Roberta2, I'm going to give you a list of authors of historical mysteries that I have been trying out lately. Some are better than others but I've found all to be relatively interesting for the history involved. Time period for the books ranges from 1300s to the 1600s for the most part. I have only read the books of each series that are offered for bargain prices.A. D. Swanston, Christopher Radcliffe series.
Andrew Swanston, the Thomas Hill mysteries.
Alys Clare, the Gabriel Taverner mysteries
E.M. Powell, the Stanton and Barling mysteries
D.V. Bishop, the Cesare Aldo mysteries
Kate Sedley, the Roger the Chapman mysteries
S.W. Perry, the Jackdaw Mysteries

A Rip Through Time by Kelley Armstrong is a very good Victorian mystery.

There isn't a comfortable seat in this house.
Do we still have a place to put movie and TV series recs? Anyway, I watched Tom Jones on PBS and liked it.
Please accept my apology if this title has already been recommended. I need to trawl back through posts I have missed and I will do that over the weekend. In the meantime, I just finished No Life for a Lady. Finally, a successor to Joan Smith at her best.
In enjoyed it immensely. Had some great laughs. And it only cost me $AUS 1.95, so it should be less if using US dollars

Got excited when I read the plot summary for The Bookseller of Inverness. Sadly, it’s selling for $AUS 16.95 here. Rats.

Thank you - I read the first page or two and bought it.

It's a KU book here. I still have time on my KU subscription, so I've downloaded it. Thanks

Carol, I buy them to read later. :( Whenever later is. I have KU but am thinking about cancelling it. I am lucky to get an hour of reading time in a day.

I got 3 months free when a bought a new Kindle Fire. I 'll renew KU in the future for a month when there's a bunch of books I want to read. I'm using my library extensively. And I have tons of TBR's on my account, so I really don't need KU right now.
Hello back again. Tuesday here and it’s close to 5.30 pm. I can already see a pale moon in the clear, but weakening, silvery sky. Winter has come early in Australia. Cold. Wet. Grey. Well, today was sunny, but the temperatures were still chilly. The days are shorter. Good weather for sitting before a log fire and reading…. if only! Trying not to read any news from the US, or Sudan, or Ukraine, or Afghanistan. Trying to ignore the numskulls (even here) going ga-ga over the English Con-a-nation. Cooking up a storm instead. Any good new releases?
Hi everyone. Hope you are all well.Sunny day here. Rained all day yesterday.
King’s Coronation long weekend over now.
Been to W Australia in April. Weather was as nice as our summer days in Uk.
This is our third beautiful spring day in a row. Can't get enough of the sunshine. It felt as if it rained all of April and the 1st week of May. Heading to a wedding in Ohio this weekend.
New release I found that's inexpensive and not half bad. I've read a few chapters and find the writing pleasing. The Runaway Bride The author is Felicity York, English (I think from Lancaster but don't quote me) and this is the first in a Stately Scandals historical series. All the books to be based on an actual scandal of the times.
Danker, thanks for the No Life for a Lady recommendation. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely humor in it, a bit of a mystery, and an understated romance that filled the bill.

I'm pretty sure we are all familiar with C.S. Harris and her Sebastian St. Cyr Regency mysteries. Anybody interested in the U.S. Civil War? I just discovered Good Time Coming on Amazon for $2.99. Product page says the book was first published in 2016, but I suspect it was sitting around in a drawer of her house for years and she took it out and polished it a bit for publication. Anyway, I have downloaded it but not read it yet, so I can't know enough to recommend it.
The Weaver Takes a Wife 4-book box set: Sprightly and sparkling Regency romance is 2.99.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PPFKDKX?...

I cannot find a link to this author or her books here on GR for some reason. But...if you go to Amazon, look for The Genevieve Planche Collection: Books 1-2 by Nancy Bilyeau. Only 99 cents for the two historical fiction books. Well worth it, IMO.

This two book collection has The Blue and the sequel to it, The Fugitive Colours, both for just under a dollar. Can't ask for a better price than that, except for maybe free. Carol has the link in her message #2236.

Roberta2 wrote: "Thank you all. I got it too. I have a long flight to Honolulu on Thursday."I love Honolulu and agree, from Australia think it's about 16-17 hours from time to airport here to landing.
A long day that is so worth it when you arrive in paradise!
Enjoy!

I'm afraid if I went to Hawaii, I'd just stay and never come back :)
Thank you all. This is our first vacation in 3 years? With our son working right now in Honolulu and our daughter flying in for 5 days over the holiday weekend, it will also be a family get together. And, no, I'm not looking forward to the flight. Just trying to concentrate on the destination.
Roberta 2: Have a safe trip to a beautiful state & your adult kids will be there too. Sounds perfect!
