HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments You guys are the best. Yes, losing our companion animals was the worst part of it. Lucy and Gia (two of our dogs) and four of our cats. Precious, Romeo, Squirrel and Pip.

We are now in a rental house while our house is rebuilt - they think it will be about 9-10 months. It is the best that it can be. I can now be grateful for the ones we didn't lose. I hope to have them here next week - we still have some furniture that needs swapped to make a good room for the cats but I will try to get the dog home tomorrow.

Danker | 1030 comments HELP - do any of you remember a series about widows that featured an elderly Duchess with a damaged hand who had been in love with a Scottish stable-hand when she was young, but forced to marry a sadistic Duke who damaged her hand so she could no longer play music? Each story in the series featured a different widow and the old lady’s reunion with the old Scot.
One of the widows mourned aa husband she adored. He had been reported as dead in battle. The others were less happy in their marriages. The first of them marries the grandson of the old Duchess. I think he may have been a pirate (not usually my thing).
Another book in the series has a h who was married to a man who died in bed with her on his wedding night. She had been badly hurt in an accident with him and his cousin, as teenagers, while searching for a nest of eggs. His cousin, who she loved, had been blamed and sent away. He becomes the new heir and when he returns to his property he finds her doing repairs to a pig sty. One feature of the story is a lovers eye which she made when she was young. Her mother in law is still alive and hates her. The h has a young daughter. He becomes engaged to one of the other widows.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 319 comments One book sounds familiar, but cannot put a name to it.

Just catching up on here and listing the books I read while I was on holiday. Just got back from a 6 hour flight. Loved the sunshine 32 degrees . It was snowing the day we went away .

I am just starting to read , Elizabeth Lowell , Forbidden . Medieval story.

Hi, Danker! The description of that older duchess sounds so very familiar but I cannot for the life of me place it with a book or author. Memory is shot. And the only series featuring widows in all the books of the series that I can remember are the ones by Candace Hern and Anna Campbell. Kelly Bowen's debut novel had an older widowed duchess in it and a heroine who was on the run from an abusive husband. They were both involved in helping other abused wives. To make a long story short, sorry I can't help.

Carol | 2793 comments Didn't we used to have a place for movies and series? Oh well, I watched the first two episodes of "Daisy and the Six" last night. Not my usual fare, but I thought it very good. I had started listening to the book but decided to wait for the series. The series starts out differently than the audio.
Looking forward to Sanditon tomorrow.

I guess it's historical now. ;-)) It's about a band that becomes famous in the 1970's and how the individuals in the band handle the fame and pressure and their relationships.

I used up my temporary steroid as planned. The other gout medicine is permanent. I had slightly more energy last week, got busy & paid for it later.

Thanks for asking.

Danker | 1030 comments Found it. Sophia Nash. The Kiss. Full of angst. It’s part of a series. I seem to remember liking a couple of the books in the series. The search has been interesting. Had not realised just how many HR series about widows have been published. I haven’t seen anything new from her for aeons. Must re-check.

I am managing without any RA drugs right now. My hair was falling out, so I stopped using them. I take 2 time release Tylenol and add one Advil when I need it. I also have a stash of Percocet than I use if I do something stupid like pick up some too heavy for me or try too hard to open a jar.
I found that Turmeric is a good anti-inflammatory. I can't take the pill form because it upsets my stomach, but I add the spice to my cooking when I can. I need to find a way to get more into my system.
Like you, being extremely tired is a problem. It's hard to pace oneself and then BOOM, you've overdone it.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 319 comments Happy birthday 🥳🎂HR. Hope you have had a nice day.

I have started getting pains in my groin and bottom of spine. Think it’s my rheumatoid arthritis setting in. Normally only suffer with my fingers and toe’s that flair up at times. I have just started to take organic Turmeric with black pepper extract. Hoping this might help.
Hope you feel better soon Carole.

My RA is really noy bothering me much, except when I do something stupid like pick up something heavy or try to open a stuck jar without a jar opener. I didn't know you have RA, too. Bottom of your spine/groin is an odd place for RA to hit. One never knows where it's going to hit next.

Shaz & Carol----

Thanks for birthday greetings. Today I'm 69. As Judy Collins sang,
"Who knows where the time goes?"

Even though you experience pain, you both seem to manage your RA.
Kudos to you keeping a + outlook.

Danker | 1030 comments Happy Birthday. Only 69. You are a spring chicken! Hope you are having a great day.
I also take turmeric and black pepper for arthritis. It is so easy to grow Turmeric from a fresh tuber bought at a Greengrocer or supermarket and to grate fresh into curries (which I do) and drinks (which I do not). I’m going to a new rheumatologist in a couple of weeks. Hoping to be prescribed cannabis oil for pain relief and reduction of inflammation as I know any number of people who have benefited from using it. Probably won’t happen.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 319 comments My daughter a nurse. She thinks the groin problem is to do with my hip. Talked to my neighbour yesterday. Who’s had a hip operation, she said hers started with groin pains. Hope not. I avoid doctors and hospital. So only go , when I am in real need. I was offered tablets a few years back for the RA. Which I said no to, I think some of the side effects are worse than the problem sometimes.

This getting old is not good. My Moto is just carry on as normal and hope it doesn’t catch you up to soon.🙏

It might be OA and not RA in your back/hips. I'm trying a Tumeric with curcumin supplement again. I'm taking it only with a big meal. Hope it will be okay because it really helped.

That sounds good. I am finally getting back to reading again. I read a funny non-fiction book today about bees, believe it or not. It was hilarious. As you can tell from the title, not a children's book.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments My best friend from when we were both 6 years old is getting married for the second time in August. My husband and I are definitely going to the wedding. It will be a small affair for family only and a few friends. I am really happy for her. Her first marriage was not a good one. She and her fiance have been together for 9 years. She always said she would never marry again. But it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind. 3 weddings this year and this is the one I am really happy about. She will be 69 in June. I guess my daughter who is 38 shouldn't say she probably will never get married because of her age.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Speaking of my daughter, she is upstairs in her room in Covid jail. She had to go on a work trip to NYC this week, and she tested positive for Covid Friday morning. So, instead of flying back, she rented a car and drove to New Hampshire to stay with us. She says it's a luxury jail. She has food and drink delivered to her door upon request. So far, her symptoms are mild. Fortunately, her room has a small en suite. So, she is stuck there until she tests positive.
