Cath, lol. I'm with you. If I open a bag of chips, I'll eat the whole bag that day. It's better for me not to bring it home. And sweets do not make me sick. Mmmm, chocolate.

I rarely buy chips for that reason. I have popcorn instead now. I make it the traditional way with oil, but do not add butter. I often use some interesting seasoning instead, Oh, I use a wok. Works well and the wok stays well seasoned.

Cath | 953 comments I temporarily got hooked on this Skinny Popcorn, pre-popped, b/c it was convenient. But so much more expensive compared to just buying a bag of kernels - not processed - and popping them yourself. Which is also probably the healthier way to go, as you do. What seasons do you like?

Trader Joe's, which you don't have, has a ton of interesting ones. I'm sure there are various ones not from TJ's on the web.

I snack on nuts all the time. But when I want a lot of something salty, I have popcorn instead of potato chips. I find popcorn satisfies my craving is not as bad as eating a half of a bag od chips.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments Dropping in to wave hello. It's been a tiring week and I am heading off to bed. Had to go grocery shopping which got me home late, and I have just now got the three dogs to bed. We are going to have freezing weather here for close to a week. It is supposed to go down to 19 degrees Farenheit tonight. I could not find two of my outside cats to get them in. :(

Central Alabama is not well equipped for those conditions.

Oh, that is horrible. You can't tell a man anything.
We think it is awful here when it gets down to freezing. It's 18 degrees Fahrenheit here now and I can't remember a time it has been this low.

We are heading to my Mother-in-Law's house tomorrow, which will be nice - although I really do not want to travel anywhere in this weather. I am afraid of ice.

Some of the cats are outside although most are inside. One who is usually outside (in our yard) I had brought in, and he escaped this afternoon and hasn't come home. The three who are outside are likely hunkered down somewhere. I keep calling them and they have food and water outside. I check it periodically because the water freezes.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you. I baked some cookies yesterday but not as many as I usually do. We had guacamole and chips yesterday. Today, I made chicken wings for my son who watched his beloved Patriots lose. Oh well, it's just football. (Don't tell him I said that.) American football, I guess I should add.

Last night we watched the new Knives Out movie with Daniel Craig. It was fun. While we were watching, our power went out, but with our new whole house generator, it came on immediately. I have to say that has been money well spent. We were able to sit in our warm family room and finish the movie.

We are loving having the kids (34 and 37) home for the holidays. Hope everyone here stays safe and well.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 319 comments It has been on our news that you are having bad weather. Hope you all stay safe. It’s good you have a generator.

Men love their football. Just been watching the World Cup these last few weeks. Well done to Argentina. Our football season has started again, now our players are back from the World Cup. We are Manchester City fan’s.

BJ (barbararhodes) | 123 comments Merry Christmas all - it's hot down under, making it a perfect Christmas day. I am a 'visitor' with my daughter and husband, having sold my house and moved to another city and state.

Everything feels strange as I have cast out almost everything from my old life. As the eldest child, I had to sort out 'precious' things from great, great grandparents etc. My mother kept everything and all I gained was generations of sadness and loss.

So after sorting, offering to my children and tossing most of it, I am basking in the unfettered joy of having a car, casual clothes, no business clothes as I won't work again. My current life fits into 4 medium boxes, one of which is books.

The new year will hopefully have me buying a new house - and just enough to live.

I will never meet any of you but feel very blessed to have you in my life. My days start reading about your lives and I feel enriched by your experiences and thoughts.

Thank you and my best wishes for a wonderful, healthy and safe year in 2023!

We had snow one year, and I could not get the feline brats to come in for anything. They survived with no damage.

Cats are weird. Have them in a nice warm house with good food and beds and they can't wait to get back outside. It's all about what they are most familiar with, even if it is 17 degrees outside.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to everyone. We went to my mother-in-law's house today for a feast. She is the sweetest woman and very independent. She sent most of the food back with us (she always does this) and we have food for days.

Today is also the anniversary of my husband's father/her husband's death. He died right after we had left to go home six years ago. She has done so well. She had a house build on a lot that they had picked out together, sold her old home, picked out new furniture and carried on. They had been talking about doing all that for years but had only bought the lot. She is surrounded by people that she knows, which is a comfort to us. We live an hour away from her.

Just realizing that BJ and my mother-in-law have something in common with how you moved.

I so admire you for sorting through all those items. And all the memories. I'm a sentimental soul & sorting is rough for me. My late Mom gave me her cameo when I wed. Once I die, who gets this? and my photos? I don't have kids. Hope you find the home you want. I read and sometimes reread postings here. So much wisdom & deeply held feelings.

HBW---
Your MIL sounds sweet. My Mom sent us home w/ food whether we wanted it or not. If we only had one piece of cake or pie, she thought it was not tasty enough. Her pecan pie was super-sweet and rich. I had a small slice, but usually not in front of her.

OLT | 2481 comments BJ, I am in awe of your ability to unclutter your life. I am hoping to do that very thing this January, as my New Year's resolution to clear out unnecessary things in my drawers and closets.

My husband and I had a lovely Christmas Eve afternoon and evening with our son and daughter and their families. We were supposed to go to our daughter's place for Christmas Day luncheon but DH woke up very congested so that's out. So it's a quiet day here at home for us two old fogies. That's why I found this video about good things that have happened in 2022 and want to share with all of you:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jw_mj...

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 319 comments I have a sister in law. Who declutters her house all the time. If you stood still she would probably throw you in the bin. She would do her mams house. We would have to retrieve photos from the bin . 🤷‍♀️😂
When I sort things out. I will keep items. But if I have not used or wore them, after sorting them out twice. I normally donate to charity shop. I do have clothes that I feel comfortable in for year’s. And items l will not get rid of for sentimental reasons. Liked my dad glasses and a shirt I have had since he died in the late 70s.
Moving house is a very stressful time. Do hope everything goes well BJ.

I have known people rigid in their orderliness. A great nurse I worked w/ had her tops, slacks and dresses arranged by color in her closet. Her home was super-neat and I was afraid to spill a crumb. She had/ has a warm spirit.

My late sister went into a nursing home over 10 yrs ago. She was IDDM & her nutrition was poor & she had 3 glucometers to check her glucose level (& couldn't find them.) Her bi-polar disorder went south w/o her meds. She forgot to pay her bills. I saw her 1-2 times a wk until she banished me. Crisis Mobilization (psych emergency) came to her condo and got her into the ER. She'd last been a psych inpatient 17 years prior.

I took a bunch of her stuff to my house b/c I was afraid she'd rage at me if she
asked for something specific. I still have that stuff. I need to rid most of this. Worthwhile items give to someone who wants it or Goodwill. Who wants a cowgirl
hat with sewn on mementos of trips? I'd feel freer w/o all this stuff.

RE: Fear & anxiety

Do you experience this? I fear the future. I know I'll die eventually so I'm prepared. I'm anxious about my health. I realize we all must adjust to bodily changes, but my uneven walking makes me vulnerable when I go out. Next wk I see chiro &will be measured for special shoe inserts.

I'm looking for a parttime job in my field, most are fulltime or require a Master's degree. Had an in-person job interview a couple weeks ago : parttime nights & weekends, hours per week vary 15 to 30 hours. I think they humor me b/c I'm in my late 60s.
Knowledge/ experience does not seem valued by them. I don't want to work at night.

Night working is not good for your health. I would avoid it, if you can.
I do think us older people, have better work evicts, then the younger generation.
Don’t know what it’s like where you are. The younger ones seem to have time off, for minor ailments.
Hubby had I always turned up for work, even when we felt really bad. Better to work it off, than sit at home mopping about. Husband had about 2 weeks off sick in 40 years.
Fingers crossed that you get the job you want.

In several jobs, some young people wanted off work b/c they felt like it. Or wanted to over-use their cell phones on work time. They didn't get what reliability was.

Kudos to your hubs taking little sick time over 40 yrs!

Today I went to the grocery. It drives me nuts when someone parks their shopping chart in the middle of the aisle. Funny the same people do it over and over in each aisle. I sound like a grouchy old lady! I guess, if the shoe fits..?

Hoping God has a job in mind for me? Thanks for your encouraging words.

I am probably one of the people who annoy you , sorry 😢
Hubby sometimes goes to put stuff in somebody else’s trolly . Not realising I have moved 🤣😂
What annoys me is when you have to wait to get in fridge’s. Because someone can’t find what they are looking for. Not there fault if the items been moved or not there. I like to go in get what I want and out as quick as I can

It’s close to 5 pm on New Year’s Eve where I live and I missed sending you all Christmas greetings, not because I’d forgotten you, but because of loads of travel and child-minding and various responsibilities leading to general exhaustion. I will read all your messages next week when I finally get some time by myself. I hope that you all had a great day. It was a huge gathering at my end - 28 adults and over 10 children. Thankfully, not at my house. It was hot, hot and a traditional Aussie Christmas. I felt for those of you in the US who were so cold.
Did you know, by the way, that the Irish have a special celebration on Jan 6 as a thanks to the women of Ireland, recognising that they do 90% of the Christmas organising/prep/ cooking etc? I didn’t know about it until today. Evidently, the women all go to the pub and leave the men at home (It’s probably a made-up story, but sounds good to me, even though I don’t drink alcohol.)
