The nice thing about the Lady Violet books (ebooks) is that they are 4.99 per book. I have been shocked at how much is charged for some ebooks.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments Also, the first 4 books - ebooks - in the Rogues to Riches series by Grace Burrowes cost a total of $10 plus tax. (United States)

My One and Only Duke 99 cents

When a Duchess Says I Do 3.99

Forever and a Duke 2.99

A Duke by Any Other Name 1.99

The last 3 are 6.99 per book but they will go down in price if you can wait. I can usually wait.

I will now stop hawking books.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments I'm re-reading the first two books in a series this weekend to prepare for the next book in the series. Does anyone else here do this?

I like Grace. Some of her characters are imperfect & that adds to their charm or helps motivate them to change.

HBW---

Today I read a review of Duke of Shadows. A poster said Lord Lockwood
was in that bk too. Really? I read/ enjoyed Duke of Shadows
when it first came out. I recall the MCs had a history & were
on the outs. She had a new man. And the Sepoy Rebellion
took place. The H + h were separated then reunited. All I recall.

So yes to your question.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments Well, like I needed another book to add to my unread books mountain range but this one was on sale, had decent reviews and someone recommended it on Facebook.

The Duke Undone 2.99

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Thanks, HappyBookWorm.

I got the first four. Haven't read Burrows in a long time and will see what I think of this new series.

message 1259: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments And yes, I too will reread books in a series before reading the next title. Not every time but usually.

I read and enjoyed the first two in that series and I will read the rest. I just started Mary Kingswood's latest series, The Mercer's House. So far so good.

The 3rd one was so cute with the kids of the family playing a big role. I just started the 4th. And will eventually get to The Mercer House.

This is one of my very favorite HR's. In fact I am now rereading most of the series again for the umpteenth time. Although this one is still my favorite.

Marked it to read. Did you read the first book in the series? If so, what did you think of it? And is it necessary to read it?

message 1270: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I haven't read in a few days. We had company--my niece, her husband, and their 2 children. We loved having them, but I am exhausted! I am not used to babies and toddlers.

Hmm, I didn't know you were THAT old. I WON'T be 76 for another 4 weeks. ;-) Can't imagine doing crutches at our age.

There are worse ways of using your time. I remember being on crutches years ago - it isn't fun.

(Unless you are using some movie star as your picture.) I guess there are 4 now that I know of in our group that are in their 70s. And as we know, 70 is the new 50.

So, welcome to the septuagenarian group, MrsPearl. I'm feeling every bit of my age at the moment. Maybe when I can walk on the left foot again and exercise properly, I can drop a few years in my head.

I would read MacLean's grocery list, so I might not be the best judge. But yes, I did like the first one. It was a combo of starting this new series and finishing another one. This book has enough back story to make it easy to jump in. Or you can do my trick when I don't want to wait before reading a book, read the the reviews of the first one.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I am 68 on the first of next month. Does that make me a "spring chicken" as my mom used to say? I don't feel young at heart anymore. I blame the pandemic and the right wing politicians, but I should take some of the blame, because I ate and drank too much and didn't exercise as I should and babied my joint pain.

message 1282: by OLT (new)

OLT | 2480 comments Yep, Roberta2, you are the proverbial spring chicken. I would love to be 68 again. Loved all my sixties. It was the 70s when my creaks, aches, and pains started in earnest.

OLT | 2480 comments Has anyone read any of Jason Vail's Stephen Attebrook historical mystery series? Takes place in medieval times and all 14 books are just a bit over one dollar in price. I'm trying to keep my book budget reasonable since I seem to be devouring a book a day lately and they are so inexpensive. Yet, as we know, you usually get what you pay for in life.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments I am 65 but have been creaky since I blew out both my knees many years ago. I still have the original knees - too chicken to have knee replacements.

BJ (barbararhodes) | 123 comments I turn 68 and retire at end of the month. I intend to sell and move interstate to be closer to my daughter and hopefully, live walking distance to a beach.
So much to do as I prepare my house for sale and as I intend to only take what will fit into my small car, clean up will be interesting!

message 1289: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments BJ, This is one of the reasons my husband and I are staying in our house for now. We are too lazy to downsize. Also, it doesn't make financial sense for us where we live.

HPB, I had a knee replacement when I was 60 and it made a big difference in my quality of life. Now I am 75 and may need the other one done at some point. Good luck if you decide to do it. Like so many other things in medicine, they have made great improvements in the surgical procedure since then.

The main obstacle is that I am a chicken. I've heard the recovery is awful from a friend who has had at least five of them. She has autoimmune problems that cause a lot of it.

message 1293: by MrsPearl (last edited Aug 15, 2022 06:42PM) (new)

MrsPearl | 83 comments I'm sorry I abbreviated your name incorrectly! I should never type before I have had coffee. (HPB is a GI surgery) Recovery takes time and effort and it also helps to do some relevant activity before the surgery. I have a recumbent exercise bike that I used before the surgery. I don't have the health issues your friend has, and her healing was probably more difficult than mine was. I think I was more nervous before my cataract surgery. I had been seeing my ortho doc for a few years for cortisone shots so I knew him, while the eye surgeon was a stranger. But all went well.

OLT | 2480 comments The Siren of Sussex is on sale today for $1.99. I used to be a fan of Mimi Matthews but her two latest are very much overpriced so I have not read them. I've downloaded this one to give it a try. Pretty sure that I will feel it was not worth the original price of $11.99. Hope it will be worth the two bucks.

OLT | 2480 comments There's another bargain book I am reading which is only $1.99 also at the moment. It's not super great but it's fun reading. The author has put together a bunch of Jane Austen's couples (Darcy/Elizabeth, Knightly/Emma, Col. Brandon/Marianne, Edward/Fanny, Captain Wentworth/Anne, etc.) at a house party which Wickham crashes. Wickham ends up murdered and we have to figure out who the murderer is. Why don't you get a library card? The have books that download to the Kindle or Kindle Fire. You should have a pretty wide selection where you live.
