The Spinster's Captain
A Victorian romance based on a true story. I liked the atypical MCs.
The hero really bungled a MOC proposal.

Interesting. The covers do give a hint as to how much sex is inside. I must say I prefer the closed-door novels,
I just checked and I have to original lithos by Gustav Janet hanging in my bathroom. Original dresses

Well, I tried. May eventually be offered, I guess.

I downloaded it as a KU.

Thanks. It's free. What can I lose? And I gain more time off my feet reading it.

Thank you, Carol. I got it.

I think she's hit-or-miss. I just read another one of hers, which I plodded through. I thought it was going to be a romantic romp, but it had no romance.

Very happy customer with less eyestrain.

Thanks - got the book. Dunno when I will ever read it .....
Right now I am in the mood to read some old favorites.

Sounds like you did some smart shopping!
LOL!
I thought women wanted to ruffle Darcy's hair when he came out of the small pond? Or Darcy could kiss a woman senseless & them give that smile he gave Elizabeth (in the music room).

I agree with you. Darcy coming out of that pond ...

SPOILER
I looked ahead and it looks like Pitt is forced to change jobs because of the Inner Circle. Has anyone read the entire series or most of them? Should I stop now or did you enjoy the later books as well?

I wasn't all that happy with the ending of book 4. I suppose we are to imagine whatever we like, but since I am not gruntled these days, it bothered me more than such endings usually do. Maybe I should make my next read a HEA? Or, perhaps I have just read too many murder mysteries in a row.

I thought about buying another kindle fire but I already have another one (other than the one I use daily) that I can't find. :( I bought it as a gift for my son but he never used it.

So funny, I downloaded it from my library yesterday morning and I'm reading it right now.

I think that if you read one book out of order, you may be curious enough to go back and start at the beginning. Ned's story is the last book in the series.
He is not a blood relation but is a valued member of their family and works in the family business. Their father was an abusive monster.
I really liked this series. I've read and enjoyed most of the author's books - there were only a few that I didn't care enough about to re-read.
I haven't read all of the Lady Violet books yet, but I've liked the ones I've read so far. She has two possible love interests hanging around - I'm not sure which one she will pick, or if she will pick one.

A Scandalous Kind of Duke"
Good news - I preordered it. Would like to do a re-read of the previous books.

Also, the hero had some serious drinking issues.

I only got a few chapters in on a HR by Nicola Cornick- too many confusing characters. Life is too short to waste time on confusion.

You are making me feel better. I just read a police procedural thriller and I got lost with all the characters, particularly when they weren't mentioned for many chapters.

Roberta2, the short answer about reading the Burrowes' series out of order is that I think you can, although I don't know what my opinion is worth since I read them all as they were published. :(

Roberta, I think if you should read them in order.

I had to buy some and some I got some through the library. The newest Burrowes' book aren't being picked up by my library either.
Another series I'm waiting for is Lady Violet. I got the first one as a Kindle book and then nada. My library appears to have one hard copy that's shared with dozens of other libraries. So, I'm waiting and have it on a wish list with Libby.

Have you read the Wishing Well series by Sofie LaPorte. I thought they were charming and maybe a tad silly. They're KU, so you can read the whole series if you get a month of KU and then cancel.

Several yrs ago NPR did a radio interview w/ Colin. He said
he considered himself a character actor & he had more
interesting acting opportunities this way. I believe he played
a baddie in "The English Patient"?
