Then that is good news.
Hi All---
How do you feel about prologues & epilogues in a romance?
Sometimes I feel prologues are too long or confusing. Or maybe
I'm impatient? LOL?

I have no problem with a prologue if it's needed to give clarity to the plot as developed from chapter one onward. And most readers actually demand an epilogue in a romance. I'm assuming that's to see how happy the couple are down the road and how many children they are producing.
Hi OLT----
Are you back from your wonderful trip?
A few epilogues I've read didn't mention offspring, sad when the H or h thought he/she infertile.

Thanks for the welcome home. We got back yesterday. The trip was marvelous. One of those once-in-a-lifetime events for us. Gorgeous scenery, lots of history and ancient ruins, and incredible churches and palaces.
Welcome back OLT. So glad that your holiday was all you hoped it would be.Re Epilogues - Generally, I am in favour of them if they are attached to a book I’ve loved and I ignore them if they are attached to books that have bored me or I have disliked.
My story of the day - Im back spending long hours as a passenger, on the road, so today I read an HR that I bought in 2016 and had not finished. It was An Indispensable Wife by an author called Philippa Lodge. Have any of you read it? Or any of her titles? It had some elements that could’ve resulted in a good tale, but, IMV, fell very short. It’s the first book in a series, but I kept thinking it must be a sequel, because there was loads of info about the h and H’s marriage that the author seemed to imply the reader already knew. I mention it because this was certainly a story that would have benefited from a Prologue. As I’m a glutton for punishment, I decided that I might try number 2 in the series, but balked at the price - over $8. Then I went here to Goodreads to check the reviews for The Indispensable Wife and found a recent rating by the author - who gave herself top marks, as she mentioned she had re-read the book and still loved it.

HR-ML, sometimes prologues are useful, like in mysteries or worldbuilding for fantasy/paranormal books."Fifty years ago the world was overrun by giant purple lobsters. Humankind soon developed their own exoskeletons in order to fight off the purple menaces, claw to claw."
The killer smiled and dropped a black feather near the body before leaving quietly. "One down."
So happy to hear you enjoyed your holiday. Did you have a favourite place or country which you visited . I like Greece and Italy. Lots of history
Shaz, I'm no world traveler by any means. In the past, I've lived in and visited Latin American countries, traveled twice to Spain, once to Portugal and once to Italy. This trip was limited to Sicily, some of the Greek islands, Kusadasi in Turkey, and ended in Athens. It's hard to pick a favorite, but it might be Valetta, Malta. Perhaps because of author Dorothy Dunnett and her Lymond Chronicles and Niccolo series and also the breathtaking look of an island city surrounded by walls. And the gorgeous Basilica of St. John built by the Knights.
I have never been to Malta. Valletta looks nice. I like historical towns and cities. Not been abroad since covid started. Airport are still a bit chaotic here. Hopefully travelling will get better later in the year. Husband still having treatment every 3 months at the moment so staying in UK . Camper van 🚐 holiday for us. Luckily we have plenty of history here.

Carol wrote: "The Skylight Room is free today. I loved it."Carol, darn, I missed it. Life has been too busy recently.
In order to be able to sleep at night (trying to relax), I have been rereading Loretta Chase's HRs which always have marvelous heroines.
I've done a few Lucinda Brant books as rereads. They hold up pretty well. BTW, anybody who's interested in good historical mystery series, I've found one I like by S.G. MacLean. The Seeker is the first one of five. Takes place during the English Civil Wars. The hero is a Roundhead, one of Cromwell's men.
I read the first book of the Lady Violet Investigates series. Very enjoyable. I'm waiting for the library to get the second book in, if ever.
OLT, Is the hero in the series you recommend someone likeable? I really have always despised Cromwell because he was another religious power hungry cretin. But, I did read Stella Riley's books, and she had 2 heroes who were Roundheads, and I didn't have a problem with that.
The hero is principled and admirable and not at all a rabid religious freak. The interesting thing about this series is that the Parliamentarians are flawed, with good ones and bad ones. A rather evenhanded look at the time period, in spite of the fact that the Royalists are the "enemy" for the most part in the books.

I finished Book Lovers. It's a book that's a trope about writing and/or reading romance stories. I rounded up to 4. I did love what them characters loved about NYC. I loved knowing the books and authors mentioned. The H & h were just okay.
Roberta2 wrote: "I got The Seeker for $0.99! Thanks, OLT."There are five in the series. I'm reading the last one at the moment. It's the only one I paid $4.99 for. The other four were much less expensive. I splurged to get closure. I found the series to get progressively better as it went along. A relatively evenhanded look at the English Civil Wars and a mystery to solve in each book.
Funny, Cheryl. Never had sea legs because it was a large ship (800 passenger capacity) and was usually close to a shoreline. We had packed medication for seasickness but never needed it.
2) The Surgeon's Daughter
1) The Girl in His Shadow: A Novel
The Surgeon's Dtr is out today. It is book #2.
I read bk #1 after OLT gave a + impression months ago.

Thanks for the reminder. I just picked it up on hoopla. Couldn't believe they had the ebook.
I just read book 11 in the Chronicles of St. Mary's series by Jodi Taylor. It was hard to put down.Plan for the Worst
Roberta2, I hope I haven't steered you wrong on the Seeker books. I finished the last one yesterday and am sad that there are no more, although the ending felt like just the right one for that moment in time. I won't say what happens to Seeker, just that the series ends with the death of Oliver Cromwell, but before the Restoration. Now I am going to begin John Pilkington's Martin Marbeck series that takes place in early 1600s, much before the death of Charles I.
Diane Setterfield's Once Upon a River is on sale at the moment for $1.99. I loved it. That doesn't mean y'all will, but have a look at its description and see if it appeals.

Too busy. :(
Well, I did finish a book yesterday that was very exciting and had a happy ending, and it was about historical events. It was the 11th book in the Chronicles of St. Mary's series. Leaving out the drama, this time the historians were recording as much as they could about the way that the Minoans in the city of Crete lived before the volcanic eruption and tsunami that would obliterate almost everything on the island.
Anyway, that whole series is great. It should be read in order. It also contains a lot of humor which has been very helpful through our trying times.
Plan for the Worst
