Thanks, I got that one. I enjoyed that book a lot, would like to read more by her.

I really liked that one. How her relatives deceived her ... just, wow.

Okay, thanks. I've not permanently deleted a book before, but I did see the option for doing it.

Yes, and the author made the story so credible.

Kathy, I have these to lend:
His Forsaken Bride
A Bride for the Prizefighter
The Unlovely Bride
HappyBookWorm2020 wrote: "I have forgotten how to lend, btw ...."Hi, HappyBookWorm, thanks for offering to lend the books. I've included this image to help you. As you will see, if you own a book that's lendable, you will see the option to lend it right next to where it says: View this order. The little block in red says: Loan this book. Once you click on it, a window will open for you to enter the person's email and a little note, if you like. You click: send, and Amazon sends the email. I think you can only loan a book one time. The writing is really unclear on this image, and I apologize for that. If the book is not lendable, you won't see that option. I would like to start with A Bride for the Prizefighter if it's available. I'll send you a DM with my email address.
Kathy, let me know when you are ready, and I'll temporarily post my email address here so that you can email me.
Book prices, particularly ebook prices have gotten to be ridiculous. None of the authors I follow seem to be making out like bandits either. Considering that you are buying a license for the book and not the book itself, it really seems ridiculous.

For example, Mimi Matthews has a new one to be released at $9.99. $10.99 to $11.99 is the usual e-book price now for those that are coming out also in trade paperback. I remember when I was indignant about the $7.99 e-book price for a romance.

Many of the Amazon ones are available as an audiobook, but I can't seem to absorb a story that way, unless it's nonfiction. Weird, I guess. I think Amazon has also bought the rights to publish ebooks from other publishers. Something very wrong is happening to our public libraries and to readers.

I don't think that will work, but is you call Amazon and tell them you must have deleted it by accident, they'll get it back for you.

Some of you may find this interesting. Not sure I haven't posted it before. https://victorianparis.wordpress.com/...
I have also noted the new prices for HRs. As much as I enjoy Mimi Matthews, I am not paying $9.99 for her next title.
Anybody here a fan of Alicia Cameron? One of the best things about her books is the moderate price. They are fairly traditional Regency romances. Here's the latest one that was just released (and only 99 cents): Jocasta and the Cruelty of Kindness: A feel-good Regency Romance

I can't believe the costs of ebooks, particularly given that you are purchasing a license to read it.
I pre-order my very favorite authors' books to support them (or if I just can't wait), but for most books, I can wait for a price drop.
HBW2020---
A Kindle book on Chuck Robb, former Va. Governor, was $19.20!
Some Kindle romances are $12. or $15.! For that price I'd expect
delivery of a fresh cheeseburger too.

Wow. Why? Just because he's the son-in-law of Lyndon Johnson?
Speaking of price drops, I don't know how many of you are fans of Sally Thorne, a CR author, but her newest release is available for $2.99 at the moment. It's kinda cute. Second First Impressions

The prices have gotten ridiculous. The really sad thing is that the authors don't really make much money off the individual ebooks sold.
ETA I might be willing to buy more if they threw in a cheeseburger and fries.

I liked this. I hope the name of this blog doesn't offend anyone. They are interesting women and the books are romance. They and this blog have been around for a long time. This article is about how reading historical romance helped this woman cope with a recurring serious medical problem. https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/2...
I've been on Smart Bitches, Dear Author, Word Wenches, & some sites I can't recall. Glad reading HR helped this lady cope.

Reading HRs got me through 4 years of he who shall not be named and Covid. I enjoyed the new Cameron. The only complaint I have is she has so many characters polluting her books now. I guess that is because there are so many daughters and each of the unmarried ones will have a book.
"The only complaint I have is she has so many characters polluting her books now."Roberta2, I feel this way about so many of the recent HRs, especially the series. It's like the authors have forgotten the importance of focusing on the main couple in the book.
Roberta2 & Kathy---
Why make a romance with so many characters the reader needs to make a chart to keep them straight?

Roberta2, I'm about halfway through it and enjoying it much more than the last HR I read. I had not read anything by Darcy Burke in a long time and thought I'd give her another chance. Some members of the Ton have a sekrit club that is invitation only and London is agog! The series is The Phoenix Club.

HR-ML wrote: "Julie Capulet. Saw her name when looking at CR list. Does she know Romeo?"
That's funny. CR - contemporary romance? Was it the author name or the name of the book?
Carol wrote: "My neighbors are Tony and Carmela, but their last name isn't Soprano."I bet they never got ribbed about that! That's hilarious.

I finished it and started another re-read of Francine and the Art of Transformation.
Not about a book, but I just found out there will be a season two and three for Sanditon. How many of you saw season one on PBS? Fans were disgruntled about how it ended. So now it continues, but the problem is that the male love interest will not be coming back, so I guess there will be new adventures for the heroine?https://www.willowandthatch.com/sandi...
Very happy. I wrote to PBS to complain. You can all thank me! Too bad about the male lead.HR-ML, I'm sure PBS will rerun the first season before starting the next one.

Good for you! Let's hope they do the rerun.
I didn't watch Sanditon after hearing it wasn't going to be continued, so this time I might give it a try.
I also watched Sanditon and hated the ending and signed some online petition about it, can't remember which.I read a completed version of Sanditon years ago which I really liked. Sanditon: Continued and Completed by Another Lady.
The PBS version of Sanditon was more soap opera like, which made sense since it was created by Andrew Davies.

When I watched it, I thought that the ending was not final and that there would be another season. Austin usually wrapped up her stories. I looked at Sanditon by Another Lady, but thought it was to expensive. I enjoyed the PBS. They have done other HR's better.
HR-ML wrote: "See politics thread, message #92 : John Eyre: A Tale of Darkness and Shadow"
Heh. I think I may have posted it on the political thread twice, thinking I was over here. Anyway, here it is:
I'm reading Mimi Matthews' book John Eyre: A Tale of Darkness and Shadow and liking it a lot so far. I'm having to write a list of the characters with a short description also. There are many and they have different roles in the book from the original Jane Eyre.
ETA got further in it and like it a lot. I'm thoroughly mystified.
ETA again - further in and even more mystified but very interested in the story. I can tell I'll read this one twice to enjoy the clues I missed or misinterpreted the first time around.
