OLT | 2480 comments Good to hear that about your lungs. Blood thinners for now sounds like a good idea. Blood clots aren't anything to ignore.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Cheryl. I agree with OLT. You keep us all truckin'.

And, yes, blood clots are nothing to ignore. That is the problem with Covid. It isn't just the lungs that are affected by the virus.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Shaz, I do wordle every day too. So does my daughter. We compare our scores for fun.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I am halfway through Lady Odelia's Secret and am not liking it as much as I did the first book in the series. There is too much detail about painting; I am finding it a bit slow going. Also, I don't much care for many of the characters including Odelia.

It sounds like you have a good doctor. Blood thinners sound like a good idea. I'm so glad you are feeling better. And ditto to what OLT said. You've made this a happy place.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments I did Wordle once, would like to take it up. There is that little issue of time. :( Besides work, I have tons of chores at the house. Many animals and that's not counting my husband and son.

HBW---

I'm greatful for my doc. She re-arranged her schedule to see me last
Thurs. We also make each other laugh.

All here make this a happy place, and a place to share our thoughts.

Carol | 2793 comments I do Wordle occasionally. It takes no more than 10 minutes.

Carol | 2793 comments I just finished Love & Saffron: a novel of friendship, food, and love. It was a short but interesting read. Most of it is done with correspondence between two women, who have a love of food. It takes place in the 1960's, when a woman's lot was limited, and a lot of chaos and change was occurring in the world. Short, but sweet.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 319 comments While doing Wordle today. We had to remember that we use double letters in words. Where the New York Times doesn’t 😂
It usually takes us about 5 mins. It’s good to task your brains 🧠 .

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 319 comments Sounds like you have a good relationship with your doctor . Which probably puts you at ease .

My doctor is the tops. She is a board-certified internist. She really listens. We share a belief in least restrictive treatment.

I did the one in the NYT. Got it on the 3rd try. It's just a lot of luck.

I've only done it once and didn't get it but it was fun. I'll do it again when I have some time. Grocery shopping and animal care after work. Argh.

Our three dogs are hard to get settled down at night now. Maybe that's it.

Carol | 2793 comments Mary Kingswood's Stranger #6 is out. So far, so good.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 319 comments Our clocks change in another week and half. I can never remember if they go back or forward till the day they change. So when I wake up on the Sunday morning. I find out if I am up early or late 😂🤣
Don’t think my little dachshund realises, he’s fine as long as he’s with husband and me.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments Anne Gracie recommended this site, in her newsletter. It is about Georgette Heyer. I barely glanced at it - didn't have time to dive in - but it had quotes by her, possibly from letters.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I hate this week because of daylight savings time. I am waking up around 2:30 or 3 am every night. I don't know when I am going to adjust. We are flying out to see our daughter and son next week. Then we will be on CA time which is 3 hours earlier than here. I suppose my body will figure it all out sometime in April. lol

Carol | 2793 comments Did anyone watch Sanditon? I haven't yet. It's Tivoed.

message 874: by OLT (new)

OLT | 2480 comments Carol, I watched it last night. Can’t say it was super compelling but I liked looking at the clothing and scenery. Everybody except the heroine’s two love interests is back and some new characters added.

message 875: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I have it recorded but haven't watched it yet.

message 876: by OLT (new)

OLT | 2480 comments So...anybody here watched any Sanditon yet? I need to know if my impression is faulty or in agreement with yours?

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 319 comments The first series of Sanditon was on ITV here.
Second series on Brit Box, which we have to pay monthly for. Most of the programs are repeat’s from years ago. Which I have already seen.
So I will not be watching Sanditon . Same with Gilded Age, that’s on another pay monthly channel called Now TV. Already pay enough money about £80 a month , for TV that I don’t watch.

We have to pick/ chose a streaming supplier(s). It gets expensive.
I want to see Michael Keaton in Dope Sick, but then I'd need to get
Hulu. Haven't made up my mind. They have a 7-day trial.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments Just stopping in to wave hello. I'm still re-reading urban fantasy by Anne Bishop. Awesome stuff if you like the genre. I've re-read the series several times. She has a new book out and I'm refreshing my memory before I read it.

Finished Book 1: Written in Red

Book 2: Murder of Crows

If I hadn't already read the book, your review would have persuaded me to do so. Her commode business cracked me up - toilets with a superior flush.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Hi all. Got back from visiting our daughter in San Francisco. Had a great trip and especially liked our day in Sonoma tasting wine and sitting outside on beautiful terraces with lovely views. Now back in grey chilly New Hampshire.

I taped Sanditon and watched the first 2 episodes. Loved the scenery and clothing. The acting is good. I will keep watching. I don't know if I really care about the characters the way I normally do with a Jane Austen novel.

message 884: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I also watched all of Bridgerton. Again good acting, beautiful scenery/sets and gorgeous costumes. I just was irritated with it. I skimmed the book again and realized there wasn't much to it, and that is why they had to change the plot/add characters. The original book doesn't support a limited series. But I do enjoy the actresses who play Lady Danbury and the Queen quite a lot. I just suspended any expectation of reality and enjoyed it for what it was. Although no actor can ever be as hot as the one who played the Duke in the first series.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Maureen, I haven't read any James in a long time. The last book of hers I loved was the one about the doctor. Can't remember the title just now. Thanks for your review.

Thanks to Mauren and HBW. I'm almost finished w/ this book.
I liked how each MC was vulnerable but then came together.

It wasn't my favorite of hers, but I suspect this series would be better for reading the books closer together.

Danker | 1030 comments Roberta - the one about the doctor is When Beauty Tamed the Beast. One of my favourite titles by James. Thanks Maureen for your review. I’m contemplating a purchase because of it.
Another death of someone very close to me this week (second in just over a month and fifth in 7 months) so I haven’t got back to you all (in the other thread) about the academic papers I tracked down. I did read them, but I need more energy to do them justice. I also need a month on a warm beach on a tropical island - and that ain’t going to happen soon.
All the best to you all.

message 890: by OLT (new)

OLT | 2480 comments Our best to you also, Danker. I'm so sorry you are going through such a period of personal loss and sadness. That tropical island does sound good, although I would not want to rough it there. No catching, cleaning and trying to figure out how to cook fish over an open fire. Need my creature comforts.

I read and enjoyed it. Recommend

I want to cover my ears and scream. So many people are dying. Sorry

message 892: by Carol (new)

Carol | 2793 comments BTW, I read Sofi LaPorte's Wishing Well series. A little different than your usual HR. Uplifting. Cute. Not very historically accurate, but I did enjoy the series.

I binge watched Bridgerton. I know it's written partly as a spoof and is kind of funny, but I do not like that the costumes, people, and staging has very little to do with the era. Otherwise, it was enjoyable.

I might do Sanditon this weekend.
