I'm almost inclined to read the other 2 in the series. But I started w/
Carteret: bk#3

This was the best one. The other weren't bad. I gave them both 3 stars. If you have KU, do read The Skylight Room. I know it's not a romance, but it's very, very good.

But which version of P&P, Carol? There are so many, but the only two I really like are the movie with Keira Knightly and the A&E series with Colin Firth.

The one with Colin Firth. I never watched the other one.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments The only thing I've read by Gaskell is The Cranford Chronicles, which I loved. I have watched North and South (fell in love with Richard Armitage--such a good looking brooding hero), Wives and Daughters and Cranford.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments I've seen both the one with Colin Firth and the one with Keira Knightly - liked the one with Colin Firth better.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments This is off topic and off genre but I'm reading rural fantasy (as opposed to urban fantasy) today and enjoying it very much. It is a mesh of the current world, only with fairies who live side by side with us, mostly unseen. I've always loved those stories. Faerie tales. The illustrations in this book are beautiful.

Charles de Lint is one of the best writers in that genre.

Roberta2, I didn't read Wuthering Heights because I had no desire to. It just didn't appeal to me. We'll both have to lose our cards.

Wuthering Heights.
Saw/ wasn't impressed by Laurence Olivier in the film version.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 4294 comments Just read this, thought it was interesting. I read that book - it was very good. Heartbreaking, but good. It was an odd feeling to read about something that took place 140+ years ago and have it feel like it was happening *now*.

The book was Her Smile

message 563: by Carol (new)

Carol | 2793 comments I have that as a TBR and will get it from hoopladigital, when I'm ready to read it.

I've been reading lots of lackluster books and trying tom use my KU. I just read Never Fall for Your Fiancée. Too long, too repetitive, but I made it through by skimming some. I gave it a 3, but really should be a 2 1/2. I wonder if you can pause KU like you can pause Audible. Anyone know???

Steve Kerr: A Biography
Watched basketball's "Last Dance" doc mostly about Michael Jordan.
Kerr had interesting life story too. He was 6'2" & considered short for the NBA.

Maureen Carden | 55 comments I hated Wuthering Heights. From fifty years distance, it seemed like a score card of abuse.
Loved the Colin Firth P &P, I think it is what made his career, otherwise he would most like like have bee just another good looking English actor. You know, like Hugh Grant. hhaha

I just finished the wonderful City of Time and Magic (Found Things#4). The romance is lovely but doesn't take center stage, it is a time travel, suspense, and magical book. It is set in Victorian times.

I usually don't. but I fell in love with Neal Stephenson's wonderful weird, Dodo, then Kelly Armstrong wrote two that of course I had to read. Although I think I fell into this series accidently.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 319 comments I have just got books from library, not been since Covid started
The Windham Brides
Starting book 1 tomorrow The Trouble with Dukes by Grace Burrowes . Have book 2 on order, due to it only being available at another library. They did have books 3, 4. So fingers crossed that book 2 arrives soon.
🤞🤞

Carol | 2793 comments I've been getting DTB's and ebooks from the library. Also, my library gives me access to hoopladigital.com, so I can download more ebooks to my Kindle Fire. Other libraries use Overdrive by Libby, which can be downloaded to the regular Kindle. Once it's set up, its super easy to use. I use hoopla and when
I'm checking on a book on the Goodreads or Amazon site, I get a pop up that tells me if its available at the library or on hoopla. Don't know how it got set up, but I wont complain.

OLT | 2480 comments Same to you, Roberta2, and to all the rest of you who will celebrate tomorrow. I am thankful that everyone in my immediate family is vaccinated; even the little ones now have their first shot and the second in December. Tomorrow I am going to think only good thoughts and stuff myself with stuffing, my favorite part of the meal. I do dump lots of veggies and mushrooms in it, so I can think it's kinda good for me.

Hi Everyone,

Sending good vibes out to those who celebrate Thanksgiving and those who don't.
We have family and friends and books galore. Thanks for being you on our little
thread here. We appreciate your company and your comments. Be safe if you venture
out of your home!

The new cast of 'Walton's Thanksgiving' is on CW network, IIRC on 11/28/21. Check your listings if interested. The Walton's 2nd season Thanksgiving show started today and concludes tomorrow on Me-TV, if they remember to do part #2. LOL!

OLT | 2480 comments I just started the new JAL yesterday. As you both say, it's quite good. I like it better than the previous entry in this series. I kinda wish the age difference were a little less, although I do realize that Fresina has written several romances I loved with the hero 15 years older than the heroine and this is only 3 years more.

As a matter of fact, on Amazon it's like it doesn't exist. I asked Fresina about it here on GR and she says it will be a reality, but isn't sure exactly when.

I believe Hazard is book 9 in the series? I loved this series, but there are triggers in book 1, it's also one of my all time favourites.
An Arranged Marriage (Company of Rogues, #1) by Jo Beverley I really like Jo Beverley's writing style and great plots.
