Kobo and Mac

Apple couldn't know all the devices... but a device manufacturer should know (and support) all few major platforms (or explicitly stating "We don't support XYZ").
But after Kobo was purchased by the Rakuten group (AFAIK), I'm afraid tech support has moved way down in their priorities.
Second, you should state the MacOS version you're using. This could help someone in troubleshooting.
Also, what does it mean "loads but does not read it as a device"? What is you want to do, but cannot do?
Third, did you try to install Calibre and see if it can see your Kobo?
I'm sorry I can't help you beyond this.
My Kobo Aura connects just fine to my 2009 iMac with OSX 10.9. But it's all quite old tech and, despite what some people says, sometimes "older is better" ;-)

- the MacOs version is the latest, the big Sur OS.
- the device can charge its battery through the connection, but it is not recognized as a device, you can't see it in any way in the computer, and the kobo app doesn't read it as connected
- I tried to install Calibre. No way
I know, for me it is very serious that one of the most diffused OS have this problem - or this brand has this problem with this OS...
I hope they solve this issue very soon...

If no app can see it, the problem should be at OS level, or hardware level.
I think it's not OS-related: MacOS should recognize any USB device, even when it cannot work with it (in that case it should appear on the desktop as a non-writable unit).
You mentioned "multiple adapters": that means you do not connect it straight thru an USB cable?
That could be the source of the problem: some adapters may let the electrical energy pass through, but not the data. Hence, no device visible.
I assume you cannot use a simple USB cable. What are you using instead for connecting?
Have you thought about going to an Apple Store to let them check the issue?

I could try going on an Apple Store this weekend and lets see, thank you

Then it should work for the Kobo just as well. Mhh.
Last thing that comes to mind, could it be the specific cable faulty? Did you try another cable? (preferrably one that you know is working)

At this point, it could really be some incompatibility between your Kobo and MacOS.
A visit to an Apple Store might be well worth it (it seems unlikely this could be solved online).
Essentially: I connect my Kobo Libra bought in 2020 to my recent 2020 Macbook pro via adapters (Big Sur OS).
It charges its batteries but it is not read by the Mac as a device.
I called Kobo support, it told me to call Apple.
I called Apple support. Guess what? They told to call Kobo.
I tried multiple adapters. The Kobo is fully functional on 2 other windows PCs.
I also tried formatting the Kobo.
I tried downloading the Kobo App but everything stops when it is necessary to detect the presence of the Kobo. I tried with Calibre too.
Is there anybody of you that solved this issue in a way?
and thanks
