SOLVED. Book read in 2000-2003 Sci fi/fantasy YA novel set on different planet featuring a girl who's cyborg cat grows up with her. [s]

If this is not enough information please let me know, this is a book i read in middle school around 2000-2003
details of the book that I remember
the cover had a young woman in a sci fi kinda background, standing with her big cat (it looks like a relatively normal big cat/leopard I think)
The setting is on a different planet I believe in a futuristic kind of fanciful city or palace
The book starts out with the main character as a child (she is a girl) and at some point she received this baby cat who is to be her companion, it is a cyborg/mechanical/organic hybrid and it is sentient, but unable to talk. these creatures had specific names but I cant remember it....the cat grows up with her, and she may or may not be of royal inclinations but im not as sure about that one. At some point during the story the big cat dies, or is separated from her somehow, I dont remember any more than that unfortunately, if this isnt enough info please let me know.
