I read it as a child some where between 1991 and 1997. Children's book where a girl gets to pick out a puppy from the neighbors dog when it has puppies but the dog only has one puppy. She was upset because she wanted the puppy to look like the mother. She ultimately decides to keep the puppy any way. I think the book takes place in the summer? I think at one point in the story the girl had a tree swing or tire swing? And If I remember correctly the art style was similar to Fancy Nancy.
