ABANDONED. Fantasy series about a girl with special powers being hunted down

I don't remember much about the story but basically a girl and her mom moved to a new city where she starts a new school(on scholarship because it is very expensive?).Strange things starts to happen to her and she teams up with the main love interest because he has all the answers. I believe she had some sort of special power because she was being hunted down. In one particular scene she was attacked in a mall by someone with fire powers. Main love interest lives by himself (because his family is dead??). In the end I believe her number one enemy was the man her mother started dating.
