I'm looking for a few more comparable authors/books for my as yet unpublished epic fantasy, in particular from the Indie side, for potential marketing targets. My trilogy has no elves, dwarves or dragons. The magic system is very restricted, not terribly powerful, affecting only the emotions, and it's driven by music. The first book is a hero's journey. There is romance in my book, and while it's not the most important thing, it's pretty strong. Violence is low, sex is fade to black.
So far I've come up with the following authors and series. If the above triggers any more authors/series, especially indie, let me know.
Independant: Lindsay Buroker Sarah C. Roethle
Trad: The Tethered Mage series, by Melissa Caruso The Broken Earth series, by N. K. Jemisin The Kingston Cycle, by C. L. Polk Black Sun, by Rebecca Roanhorse Empire of Sand, by Tasha Suri. Anne McCaffery - Dragon Song, Dragon Singer Katherine Kurtz - the Deryni books. Mercedes Lackey- Bedlam’s bard Lois McMaster Bujold Patrick Rothfuss
