Thank you! I agree--Emily Dickinson is fascinating. I've read a lot about her but am always up for more.
Like many people, I've been fascinated by Emily Dickinson for many years. After FLIGHT OF THE SPARROW was published I began taking a close look at her life. I guess I was hoping to figure out the source of her eccentricity. (Silly me—she's almost as mysterious as she was before, even after years of research.) Along the way I consulted everything I could find relating to Emily and her family and the town of Amherst. For quite a while I was caught up in the juicy story of her brother Austin's affair with the young college professor's wife, Mabel Loomis Todd. Then I read Aife Murray's MAID AS MUSE and encountered Margaret Maher, the Dickinson's Irish immigrant maid. When I learned that Margaret had been tasked with burning Emily's poems after her death, I knew I'd found my protagonist. And what a wonderful character she turned out to be. Like Emily herself, Margaret cast a spell on me that still lingers.
