Chrissie | 1529 comments I need help with the following..

I thought maybe I could ask for help in reference to audiobooks at Aidible.com and Audibe.uk. It is relevant to all of us who are members at Audible US AND Audible UK--me for example. A person must switch form one site to the other when you download a book. To access the Plus library at Audible.com in the US you must be at that site. My Iphone is now at the Audible.uk site and so I do not see the Plus books at the US site. It is difficult for me to change between the two b/c of my poor vision. My husband did this for me, and now with him dead I am having trouble. Please explain how to switch back and forth. I also need to learn how to download a book using my Iphone.

I need very simple instructions PLEASE.

Janet (justjanet) | 338 comments I think I can help with the iPhone part. First you need to download the Audible app from the App Store. If you need help with that part let me know. Once you have the Audible App sign on to your account and at the bottom of the screen there is an icon that says “library”. Click on that. Each book in your library should have a tiny arrow on the cover. Click on that and the book will download to your iPhone.

message 3: by Faith (new)

Faith | 505 comments I don't know whether this is feasible, but can you have a second device that is always linked to Audible US so you do not have to switch? I use a 7 inch kindle fire for all of my Audible listening. They accept expansion cards and the books download to the card.

message 4: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie | 1529 comments Janet, I have the app. It is at the moment directed toward the audible.uk site. I went to the audiobook that is not downloaded, a recent purchase at Audible.uk. I clicked on the arrow and it downloaded, just as you said.

The problem is that I cannot have two apps--one for the US and one for the UK. Because I am currently attached to the UK site, I do NOT see the newly purchased books at the US site. I must somehow tell the app to attach to the US site, then I assume I will see the audiobooks recently purchased at Audible.com in the US. I need to know how to switch the aoo back and forth between Audible, com and Audible.uk. That is my problem now.

message 5: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie | 1529 comments Faith and Janet, I have my husband's old Iphone. It does not have an Audible app. I was thinking I could perhaps put an -audible app on his pone and attach that to Audible.com in the US. However, I do not think it will work since both of us have the same email address. Another problem using his phone is that it is running out of money. Doesn't it require gigabytes (?) to do this?

I know it is possible to switch from one site to another, i.e. back and forth between Audible.com and Audible.uk because my husband did this for me, but I don't knw how!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRR.

I am VERY appreciative of your help. If I cannot listen to audioboks I will fall apart. I need them. They are my escape .

message 6: by Janet (new)

Janet (justjanet) | 338 comments I don’t know how to switch back and forth on the app because I only have one account. But I do know that you can login with your telephone number and you can download using wi-fi only so it won’t matter if you don’t have minutes or data on your phone. You could just use the old phone for audiobooks.

message 7: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie | 1529 comments Per's phone has no Audible app. I would have t get an Audible.com app om his phone, since I have the Audible.uk app on my phone. He also has a different phone number than me. I don't knw how to do any of this. I am kind of scared. Are you sure this will work? I have nobody to turn to if I mess things up.

message 8: by Specs (new)

Specs Bunny (specsbunny) | 494 comments O I see there is a topic now.

Chrissie, I think you can just download the Audible app on the iPhone of Per (you maybe do have to have his Apple password?).

And the app will just work with your Audible name and password, that should be no problem. A few years back I installed the audible app with my details on a friend's phone while she was in hospital/ill, to use for a few weeks while she was slowly getting better. It just worked (though probably considered illegal).

message 9: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 62 comments I don't know about Audible for certain, but I do know that when my daughter recently went on a road trip I charged an old phone of mine, downloaded the Chirpbooks and Libby apps, logged into my accounts and she listened to my audiobooks using that.

message 10: by Janet (new)

Janet (justjanet) | 338 comments In the world of apps nothing is ever 100% certain. Most of what I’ve learned has been through trial and error. If you feel really uncomfortable you could always hire a teenager...they know everything.

Chrissie | 1529 comments I am reading all your tips. Thank you. After taking a walk I am hoping I have the guts to tackle this.

((((((((((((((((a big hug to all of you))))))))))))))))))))

Chrissie | 1529 comments Specs, your info was great.

I have gotten over to audible.com, but now I have trouble downloading. One book has three parts. The first part went fine. The second part says it is "queued". How do I get it out of queued? I think this happened when someone called me on my phone! HELP-it is stuck.

message 13: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie | 1529 comments If I try and download anything now, it says it is queued. I am upset.

message 14: by Janet (new)

Janet (justjanet) | 338 comments Is the phone connected to Wifi? If not, you need to connect. Delete what was already downloaded and start over.

message 15: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie | 1529 comments Janet, I solved the problem by canceling what had been partially downloaded and then signed out, took a walk ad then signed in again. I think the incoming telephone messed things up. Lesson learned--don't answer the phone when downloading a book.

I have now succeeded with what I wanted to do.

There is a big smile on my face.

THANK YOU, all of you, for your help.

I think the thread could be used by others. It is so nice we can help each other.

Robin P | 1725 comments So great you reached out, Chrissie. Most of us feel the same way, we can't be without audiobooks! This is a wonderful community that supports each other, whether with technical advice, notice of sales, or just enabling our joint love/addiction. It looks like this thread could be helpful in the future for others, even if they aren't navigating 2 countries.

message 17: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie | 1529 comments Robin, yes. it is a good place to discuss any audiobook problem.

Again, thank you to all of you.

message 20: by Karen (new)

Karen (rhyta) | 166 comments Having an issue with libro.fm files. I download them to the computer then load on my Mp3 player. They will play but if I want to rewind or fast forward, I get an error message. It also will not set a bookmark. Tried them on a different player and still same result.

They are saying it is my player yet I have no trouble with audios from Overdrive or Audible. Can it be a corrupted zip file? My player is a Creative Zen which has been discontinued years ago. I was hoping I could continue to use them awhile longer.
I know I can use the app to listen on my phone but was hoping someone would have a suggestion to try.

message 21: by Specs (new)

Specs Bunny (specsbunny) | 494 comments Just curious: if you try to play the file on your computer, are you able to rewind/fast forward?

Libro has amazing customer service, at least it was for me. I contacted them by email about working with my old iPod and got a reply from the CEO! The email address is support@libro.fm

message 23: by Karen (last edited Oct 10, 2021 02:24PM) (new)

Karen (rhyta) | 166 comments Thanks for the responses. I did try playing them on the computer through Media Player but same result.

I contacted Libro and they said it must be my player. But I still think it was a glitch in the files from them. The MP3's from Overdrive and Audible (I converted them to MP3) work just fine on the player.

As a last resort, I did a cleanup and reboot on the player and that did the trick. Only downside is losing some bookmarks but that is not a big deal since I can rewind and fast forward now.

Robin P | 1725 comments I have a weird issue. Book on the Audible app play fine at home on my iPhone with or without headphones. But plugged into the USB port in my car, they play for 5 seconds, then shut off. If I press the phone's home button they start up but only for another 5 seconds. I thought it was the cord but I replaced that and had the same issue. Then I thought it might be something about the car player or the phone, but I also have the libro.fm app since I buy audiobooks from them too. I switched to that and it worked perfectly in the car. Do you think I need to reinstall the Audible app? I rarely use it because in general I download books to my computer and put them on my iPod and plug that into the car, which works great.

I think there is a known bug ? My daughter was also having troubles with Amazon music connecting to her car but everything else works fine she was told a fix is coming so watch for an update. I am guessing it's a similar bug since both are Amazon products.

message 26: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 1725 comments Interesting, well, right after I posted, my newest used iPod came in the mail. I have gone through the pink one I named Pinky and the green one, Greenie (after while the buttons stick or they don't charge) so now I will start using Bluey. I know I have my original silver one somewhere in the house, which I was keeping as a backup. But they are so darn small, I think under 2 inches square that I couldn't find it. So once I get the new one set up, I'll use that in the car. I didn't try playing music on the phone in the car, but I imagine it would be the same problem.

Why didn't you tell us the name of the silver one?

That's funny, it does have a name - when I only had that one, I never thought of naming it. But when I got Pinky, I named the older one Silver Boy (continuing my great range of imagination!) Silver Boy is male and all the others are female - Makes no sense. I only started naming my cars recently too and they were Red and Smoky. It's true I am very color-oriented. I look for apps on my phone or icons on my desk first by color.

Bill (Just a) | 911 comments I guess I should ebay my IPODS. I won't ever use them again. I have a classic and two of the little squire ones and a small rectangular one that the wife uses.

Andrea | 36 comments Does anybody have this problem? If so, how was it solved?

I use the the Audible app on iPad. A few weeks ago I noticed that audiobooks are also downloading to video in storage. If I remove the video my audiobooks won’t play. It’s doing this for every title. Each book takes up additional storage space.

I thought the recent update would solve the problem, but it didn’t. I chatted online with two Audible customer service representatives today. With the first rep we tried several things before we were disconnected. With the second rep, I was trying his first suggestion when I went back to chat we were disconnected. So now a little problem has left me pretty angry.

I would investigate installing Smart Audiobook.

I wouldn't: it is an iPad... as far as I know, Smart Audiobook is Android only.

message 33: by Bill (Just a) (new)

Bill (Just a) | 911 comments I stand corrected. Smart Audiobook won't work.

I think the DRM encoded may be an issue for any non apple or audible player. One can strip it out or convert the book to a MP3 but that adds a level of complexity. I am used to it now so I don't think much about it. And I went from apple to android.

message 34: by Specs (new)

Specs Bunny (specsbunny) | 494 comments It's a real pity Smart Audiobook isn't available to Apple devices, because it sounds like a really great app!

I use an iPhone, not an iPad, but I've never had this happen. Do you have the Apple Books Sync on in the Audible app? If so, try turning it off to see if that helps?
This is the same thing as the "Media & Apple Music" setting, FYI, but if you have it turned on from your device settings, you have to turn it off from there too, instead of the app.

That's the only setting that I could find that I think could even possibly cause that.

If that doesn't work, I would maybe ask Apple for help rather than Audible customer service. I don't even know how the Audible app would access your VIDEO storage. That seems like an Apple issue to me.

Thank you very much! From the Audible app Apple Books synch was already turned off. So I turned off synching for Music and Podcasts and it worked. 🥳
