So guys I have a strange problem.

There are 4 characters in the new book series I am writing that need names. SO basically the book series will start out with them very young. But as they grow older they will become these magical beings things I don't really know how to describe it, but anyways they will each have the power over an element.

Water- Blue Sage
Air- Grey Sage
Fire- Red Sage
Earth- Brown Sage

These are who they will become, but for now they need actual names. But, I haven't been able to separate my mind from the colors so, so far in my mind and on paper I have been calling them red, blue, brown, and grey.
My paper literally says Brown said "..."
I need to fix this problem before it gets out of hand. I don't really need specific names,( but I will take those also) I need a way to separate my mind from the colors because right now in my mind the colors are who they are.

I don't know if that made any sense whatsoever, but if you can help, please do.

Water
Air
Fire
Earth

It depends on why you don't like them having color names. Because if it's just a placeholder, it's going to be like that. And if it's just a place holder, I'd recommend either just calling them by the element, or making up names similar to the element. Sorry if I was unhelpful!

Thanks, I just want to come up with names for them before I am not able to separate the people from the colors.

What I have right now:

Blue smiled, and ran outside. The snow fell heavily onto the decaying grass. He ran back inside.

"Wake up Grey, it's snowing" he said shaking his sleeping brother trying to get him to wake up.

"Go away Blue, it's not even light outside yet" his brother replied...

I just feel it doesn't quite make sense and I need actual names not just the colors.

Have you ever watched the Avavtar the Last Airbender series? (I promise this is relevant ;))

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, I love that series!!! I watched it all the time a kid. Then they made a movie and it completely ruined my entire childhood!!!!!!!!!!

em_panada Maybe you could try some Latin words for the names?

*LATIN WORD for Water* Caesicius (possible aliases or similar ideas: Caesis, Cae, Cius)

*LATIN WORD for Air* Aeris (if female maybe Aerie, or Aeria. Another boy idea might be Aerin, or Avarian)

*LATIN WORD for Fire* Ignis (if female maybe Igna or Ignira)

*LATIN WORD for Earth* Terra (however since the character is a boy maybe Terris or Terrin... maybe you could spell it backwards to be Arret)

Anyway, just some ideas...

I know, the movie was TERRIBLE! Anyways, just call them Aang, Katara, (if it's a guy do someone else, like Sokka [I know he doesn't bend, but he's water tribe]), Toph/Haru or something, and Zuko/Azula. Depending on their gender/element.

And Emmeline's suggestions are good!!!

Definitely think this a possibility here. Just my two cents.

You cannot hide that direct quote! Has someone been buying at Food Lion lately? XD

Kamiko (kamiko1108) | 1125 comments Lol, I'm doing a story like this. I went with names that have meanings. So Emmeline's suggestions are great. So are Julane's. It's really hard to find a name that fits. Once you find one, it takes some time getting used to. If you don't like it after a while, change it.

Sorry if this didn't help.

So they are all boys, I like the idea of Cae, for Blue. I will need to think the rest over though.

Marie (naturechild02) When I have trouble thinking of a name for a character, I try to think of something unique and original.
Or I just use the first name that pops in my head when I think about their personality.
Whichever.

Guys, I just realized like 15,000 words into the story I still have this problem!!!!!!!!!! So I would appreciate anyone just spitting out names they like. Boy names preferably old sounding. Thanks

message 15: by Ravanna Dee (new)

Ravanna Dee (ravannadee) Okay, red is fire correct? And fire is a strong and proud element So you need a strong name, like, Darren or Killian. Water also calls for a strong name but is kinda a superior element too. So you could go with, Angus or Edric. Air is a silent but thoughtful kind of element that can become the strongest of the elements if needed. So you could go with, Caiden or Gabriel. And last earth. Earth is a force that demands strength and power. So Bentley or Kyson. I hope this helped.

Thanks Rav, those are good suggestions

Feel free to post any more. They are really good, so far I am liking Bently, Kyson, and Edric.

SmilingDork | 17 comments Try looking at everyday objects and mashing two words together chew on them a bit and see what you got. That is what I do for a log of my characters I write up. If I got a specific letter I want I look at objects that start with that letter. Some examples of some of my characters from my writings- Cinderella Midknighte, Alex Nightwood, Calora Medingale. It helps a lot with last names.

Also I find it helpful to think of birds that best represent my characters and sometimes that helps in the naming process. Just some ideas to help you figure it out.

SmilingDork | 17 comments Also I think up of everything I what my characters to be like and read through that list and most often times a name hits me hard enough to knock me over. ;P
