DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments If it had been made by an unknown developer on a shoe string budget...well.. I'd still say the protagonist is as charismatic as a brick, the other party members are about as memorable as dishwater, and the antagonists are as stereotypical as they come..but if if was their first game, you could say it had potential (possibly while drunk).

But as a Mass Effect game from Bioware, funded by EA, and considering the games that came before, it really can't be considered anything other than a massive disappointment. Take away the Mass Effect name, there are worse games out there. With it..its an abomination ;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments And guess which masochist just stuck it on to download to see how it looks on the Pro ;)

Equinox80 | 665 comments What a waste of a Pro ;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yep shame on you R, you should know better ;)

Gonna stay clear of Planet Coaster 2 until they patch it. It's crashed multiple times which didn't bother me too much...but when it caused the whole console to crash, that has me a bit more worried. Was generally enjoying it, not much different to the first and was looking pretty platable.

Equinox80 | 665 comments Argh, I can't get this last location to spawn in Remnant 2

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Resolution is better in Andromeda on the Pro, could do with more of a framerate bump though...and taken to the recycling plant to be made into something useful ;)

Remnant 2 is one I'll have to redownload and see

I think I may have created a monster, DF Deckard.

I’m starting to think the Pro is actually a bit shit. I’ve been playing Warframe and TLOU pt1 and both have Pro graphical modes that use PSSR. And both have standard upscaling performance modes where the base resolution is the same as the PSSR mode. Comparing standard upscaling performance mode vs PSSR both games have much more visible aliasing in PSSR mode. And to me both games look just as crisp resolution wise when they use standard upscaling. So it’s PSSR disabled for me on these two games. PSSR might be better for upscaling from lower base resolutions.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Most of the PS4 games I've tried have had a nice wee boost (resolution wise anyway), some on par with some of the lazy remasters we've get. PS5 games, it seems to be a bit less noticeable, can't say any I've played many that have looked significantly better, better framerates mostly

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I definitely find myself jumping between - this is great, and - this is no different, quite a lot

I think there is a placebo effect. I thought some games looked better on my Pro but when I look at the same game on PS5 standard they look just as good. I think there are some games that look better like Rebirth but I don’t own the game. By all accounts, according to Digital Foundry, the PS4 boost mode is pretty negligible. Mostly sharpens on screen text.

Anyway. Finished TLOU Left Behind, which I played before on PS3 I think. It was ok. Not the highlight of TLOU. Graphically it does look very very nice. I think it’s back to Space Marine 2 for me next. I’ve also been playing a lot of Blops 6 multiplayer which I have to say is very good. Been getting some good results too, so not too bad for an old boy.

Equinox80 | 665 comments Interesting reading your thoughts on the Pro guys. I feel like this gen has never fully got going and pushed the base PS5 so wondered how noticeable improvements could be.

That being said, I do think they'll come more into their own though over the next few years, in the run up to PS6. More from Sony first party devs though as the generation as a hole is hamstrung by the Series S limitations.

Equinox80 | 665 comments In other news I've finally got the last trophy on the Remnant 2 DLC. After around 3 hours of re-rolling adventure mode, I found the side dungeon required to find the last artifact needed.

I was getting close to throwing the towel in (or throwing my controller across the room) and one of those trophy hunting occasions where I wonder what I'm doing with my life. Anyway, the 100% looks nice and I'm happy to move on now.

I had planned to play Little Nightmares 2 next but with spooky season over, I'm not sure I'm feeling it. Maybe Lake or another short PS+ offering.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yeah, unless the PS5 Pro becomes the best-selling console, are developers really going to spend the extra development time and cost on optimisation? At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how good the hardware is if the software isn't up to scratch.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Veilguard...sounds suspiciously like something your local car dealership would insist you need to keep your paint job fresh...might have just hawed it

I see Star Wars Jedi Survivor on PS5 Pro is getting a bad review from Digital Foundry. PSSR is pretty much broken on it. And they mentioned the aliasing too which I’m noticing more and more.

message 4666: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments The force doesn't sound strong with that one.

I picked up the Super Woden GP bundled, both games and both PS4 and PS5 versions for £11. Made a start on the first game last night and its more or less what I was expecting. Looks like there will be a bit of grind to be able to afford a car capable of 300km/h but its enjoyable enough.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments DA: The Veilguard is looking pretty much like I expected. Likely a decent play but would have preferred it if it had been more like Origins than 2 or Inquisition. Definitely leans heavily towards action rpg more than strategy or tactics so far

message 4668: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments Make sure not to misgender any of the NPCs Deck

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'll try my best, insulting a computer generated image is the last thing I want.

Stuck a few hours into it now, and hoping it picks up because it's lacking something. Seems very basic - go here, kill stuff, back to base, repeat all with a bit of story mixed in.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yeah, not really feeling it at the minute. Not bad but no different than half a million other games. Think I'll probably enjoy it well enough when I'm in the right mood.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Though if I can't think of something else, I may be back to it sooner rather than later. Half tempted to replay Inquisition first since Veilguard follows on from it, but that's no small task

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments The way they've done the gender identity in Veilguard is a bit weird at one point at least. It's like they've decided let's try and include everyone...but keep them separate at the same time. They've only themselves to blame for any criticism

message 4673: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments That's all that kind of nonsense amounts to where ever its used. It promises things like inclusivity and equality and other warm fuzzy words but by its very nature, divides, discriminates and only highlights everything different about people, rather than what we share.

I'm amazed game companies are still pushing it. Every game that doubles down on DEI nonsense suffers terrible sales. Apparently Veilguards sales aren't great, Concord is one of the biggest disasters in gaming history (although not completely attributed to woke tripe) and other games like Flintlock (can't remember the full name) have bombed.

There's a company called Sweet Baby Inc that publishers use to 'diversify' games but its like slapping a sticker on the box saying 'Do Not Buy'. I'm not sure at what point they learn their lesson. Have there not been enough layoffs across the games industry of late?

In contrast, Space Marine 2 doesn't have characters sat around choosing their gender identities. They instead concentrated on making an excellent game. Is it a coincidence that it sold like hot cakes?

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've been beating up skeletons (equally and without prejudice) in Demon's souls, but maybe i should be putting a bit more thought into the identity of the souls I'm farming....

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Maybe I should farm some undead soldiers for a bit, don't want to get sent to a conscious bias seminar

message 4676: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments I had to do an unconscious bias e-learning course at work, even though I told them any bias I have, I'm completely conscious of it.

I found a fairly quick way to grind credits in Super Woden GP last night so should get most of what I have left to do done tonight.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Had been considering playing though DA Inquisition on nightmare difficulty, since the only trophies I've not got are the 2 difficulty related ones. I'd read that it's not too bad on nightmare if you can get past the prologue, it just takes a lot longer to kill anything. Tried beating the Demon at the end of the prologue and decided I've not got the patience for it

I think I may have found a game on the Pro I'm happy with with it's Pro enhancements. Blops 6 has increased resolution over the standard PS5 at 60Hz but with frame rate unlocked and with a VRR TV that's often 90-100fps which looks super smooth (can barely tell the difference compared to 120Hz mode), no screen tearing or stutter because of VRR and noticeably sharper. Not that it was bad before but of the Pro enhanced games I own this seems to be the best one for me so far.

I see Stalker 2 is released and I watched game play last night. To me it looks very good but also a very unnerving experience. Looks like a cross between Metro and Fallout. I might start it this weekend. I'll see.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Tempted to pick up F1 24 while it's on offer for it's pro enhancements....that I'll probably not notice after 5 minutes ;)

Might wait until the Black Friday sale before I decide whether to pull the trigger

message 4681: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments I'm hoping for a decent price on AC Mirage in the Black Friday sale.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Now that you mention it...I can't think of anything I'm waiting for a price drop, so may as well haw F1 now....or some other plausible excuse ;)

message 4683: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments When have you ever needed an excuse to haw, plausible or otherwise? ;)

I might be interested in Stellar Blade if its really cheap but I can't think of much else either.

Error | 408 comments I did notice that all the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters are on sale. I played 1 & 2 with a buddy recently. Think I'll at least pick up 6, and maybe a few others.

I'm hoping for decent offer for a dualsense controller...i have 2, the white one that came boxed with the console and a black one that came with too as part of the shopto bundle...the black one has suddenly deteriorated; all the face buttons, especially the shapes and especially especially the x button have become very squishy feeling, almost sticking. Nothing spilt on it or anything and I have tried a reset but it didn't make a difference.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Had a few races in F1 24 and who'd have thunk it, it's suspiciously similar to F1 23 ;)

Had a quick look at the sale and yeah, nowt much for me. Think anything I'd pick up would just be a waste

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I reckon if there are any good gaming TV deals, I'll bite

message 4688: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments I've also had a quick look at the sale. AC Mirage is priced just about at biting point so will likely pick this up. I've also picked up the last two expansion packs for Hotwheels Unleashed 2. I bought the first two really cheap a while back and have been waiting for these other two to drop in price for ages. They're even cheaper than the normal sale price so even better.

I’ve hawed a couple of Black Friday purchases. Star Wars Outlaws and Spider-Man 2. Looks like Stalker 2 needs a few patches as apparently it’s full of bugs and performance issues. So, think it’s Star Wars for me next. I’ve not even finished Space Marine 2 yet 😛. And I’m not even that excited to start playing it again for some reason. I guess the Pro is partially to blame for that - if it hasn’t got a Pro patch then I’m not playing it (yet).

Equinox80 | 665 comments My 4 year old saw me playing Hot Wheels earlier and the day I've been looking forward to (and at the same time dreading) finally arrived when he asked if he could have a go. I was expecting him to just keep driving back and forwards into the side but after 5 - 10 mins, he was steering round stuff properly and was finishing the waypoint levels more or less on his own.

The boys a natural and I'm so proud, although I may have to get used to sharing my PS5. Tomorrow I might see how he gets on with my wife's Switch.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Pretty sure the street I'm on 4 year olds are tossed out on the streets and left to play with the cars literally. And in a couple of years they are natural at scraping cars, smashing windows and generally pissing off the neighbourhood. Sounds like a bad joke but seriously there are too many free range brats these days. Product of their environment I suppose, good as an excuse as any for some parents to deny responsibility..

Rant over lol not a big fan of the world today. Stay off my lawn ;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Picked up Sprawl. Kind of like that Ghostrunner game, only without the one hit death mechanic, rough around the edges and a bit too early to say if it's worth a go or not.

And picked up the Mortal Kombat 1 dlc as well...despite hardly touching the story of the main game. But did start it earlier and the Pro does make a bit of a difference, the cut scenes and transitioning to the fights are mostly smoother, which is making it a decent play now. Even if the rebooted story ain't much different than previously

Equinox80 | 665 comments Ping! Super Woden GP 2

Quite an improvement on the 1st game

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Congrats on that one. Enjoyed Super Woden GP 2 as well, though about picking up the first one but had read it was as you say - not as good as the 2nd.

Mostly F1 24 & Mortal Kombat 1 over the weekend for me. Enjoying them both

Morning all. I played a good chunk of Star Wars Outlaws over the weekend. On to my third world. It's actually pretty good without it being anything new. Not seen any forced stealth as I believe it's now patched out of the game. I like the combat and stealth is still very much part of the game play but doesn't feel forced and is fairly basic anyway. In parts it does feel nicely Star Wars, like when you're inside an imperial base. Not a big fan of the space combat - it's alright but not my bag really. The hacking/lock-pick mini-games I don't like - they're far too frequent but you can turn them off in the settings. All in all I'm enjoying it. The graphics though - if this is a Pro enchanced game then I wouldn't like to see the standard version. Looks worse fidelity wise than Jedi Survivor. If it was actually 4k, or somewhere close, then it would look very nice as the art style is good. Starting to think PSSR really isn't that great. Glad I got it though as it has its hooks in me - I found it hard to put down over the weekend.

In other news. My missus is gaming on my standard PS5 that I moved to the living room when I got my Pro. Made it my primary console and she's downloading games from PS Plus (on my PSN ID) and then switching to her newly created PSN ID and playing games for free. She's been playing The Gardens Inbetween and Lego Lord of the Rings. She's been gaming as much as me over the weekend. She's a gamer anyway but on mobile but she does play MMOs, not Candy Crush or anything like that.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I was a little tempted by Star Wars Outlaws but think I'll hold out till it's cheaper. Not sure I want to fork out even £50 if it's worse than Jedi Survivor visually

Yea defo worth a purchase at your chosen price point. I had PS Store vouchers so it didn’t feel like I was spending my own money 😀.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Finished off a full season in F1 24. Trophy list looks similar to the last one i.e. not considering the plat. Half of them look like a mix of pain, chore and lifetime commitment. Enjoyed it but likely moving on sooner rather than later.
