Equinox80 | 665 comments I was too tired to start anything new last night so decided to leave Space Marine 2 for tonight.

I thought I'd look at starting the plat mop up on Aveum but that isn't going to be as straightforward as I'd hoped. As well as difficulty in using the map to get to certain locations, there are 6 side bosses which are insanely difficult, even now I've put the difficulty level on easiest setting. My only hope with them is that I've still a few 'shroudfranes' to do (mini levels where you get a reward at the end). My health bar and magic has increased doing these and I still have more to do so hopefully I'll be better equipped to tackle these 6 bosses.

A trophy has also glitched -collect 3 legendary sigils (guns). I'm hoping when I find another it fixes itself.

Will probably put this on the back burner for now.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've not progressed Space Marine 2 or Astrobot much further. Want to polish hogwarts legacy off first, but I'm running out of steam a bit for it.

Anyone getting the PS5 Pro at £700 and no disc drive? It does have 2TB of storage though.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'm leaning towards no now. Might change my mind closer to the time but struggling to see the point. If it had been a wee bit cheaper, maybe I'd have bitten just for the new and shiny

message 4255: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments No way. The base PS5 isn't exactly being pushed to it limits as it is so would £700 for barely noticeable improvements.

Also multi format games will still be held back by the limitations of the Xbox Series S so its not like there be any major leap in the scope of games to benefit from the extra grunt. Unless Sony do 1st party stuff but they've pretty much dropped the ball on that front this gen.

I've completely lost my gaming mojo again :( I just paid £60 for SM2 but felt zero desire to put it on. Most of that £60 was PSN vouchers so not as bad as it sounds but still not great. Will hopefully feel a bit more enthusiastic tonight.

I'm leaning towards a no too on PS5 Pro. In the announcement video Cerny really didn't get across the improvements - they appeared minimal. I would hope in real life with a PS5 Pro hooked up on your own TV the difference would be more noticeable - pretty solid 60fps and sharper images (hopefully above 1080p). However, I very very much doubt they will achieve 4k 60FPS native and they'll rely on PSSR upscaling. Compared to what we got with Jedi:Survivor and Space Marine 2 (for example) that's gonna be a lot better than the 720p and very flaky 60FPS. That's the big disappointment for me this gen - flaky 60FPS at 720-1080p seems to be the norm and looks awful. The main put-off for me is that it's £700 + £100 for a disc drive and then you will only get 3 years (4 at a stretch) before PS6 arrives. It's just not worth the money for such a short life span if you're a day one next gen gamer.

I knew my eyes weren't deceiving me on Space Marine 2:

https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoun...

"In testing Space Marine 2 on PC, it's clear that the game's encounters with alien swarms pushes the CPU hard - and at least as of patch 1.02, that results in lop-sided performance on consoles in the 60fps speed mode. Series X typically outperforms PS5 by around 10 to 15fps, despite both machines using the same settings and resolution targets. The lowest drops come when taking a flamethrower to the encroaching horde, where PS5 drops to the mid-30s while Xbox Series X is in the mid-40s."

I think I'm gonna wait a few weeks before I play more and hope for a performance patch. It was literally chugging along in some parts on the first mission for me. And VRR wasn't doing much.

message 4258: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments This is disappointing and was a worry when all reviews seemed to done on PC (presumably top end).

message 4259: by K (new)

K C (kac15) | 17 comments Unless my PS5 dies, I'll not be looking to get a PS5 Pro. It is expensive and I'd definitely have to get the disc drive and install it myself. I put a 4T drive in the PS5 and I doubt I would notice the graphical improvements.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Just a couple of trophies left in Hogwarts Legacy, was relieved to get that ridiculous collectables one out of the way, so should be plain sailing from here. Couple more hours and the plat should be in the bag. Definitely one of those that the trophies leave you feeling less enthusiastic about the game than you otherwise would. Then again hard-core potheads probably like all the collectables. Still zero interest in HP but as a game it's not the worst

message 4261: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments I played a bit more Aveum last night and got the trophy that seemed to have glitched and increased my health bar a bit more. The plat is still far off but I feel slightly more optimistic about getting it compared with the other night.

Think I'll leave Space Marine 2 until Sunday as I'm away all of Saturday and always feel too tired to start new games midweek.

message 4262: by Phil, psn: p4tiny (new)

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments Against seemingly nearly everyone else, I am very much still interested in the ps5 pro and will be getting one...but I am as disappointed as everyone else with the price. It's honestly about £100 more than I thought/hoped it would be, and then an extra £100 for the attachable disc drive. For £699 it really really should have a disc drive bundled. Also for me there would be an additional £40ish for replacement (black) side panels.

But I will almost certainly still buy because I am still convinced the ps6 will be digital only with no option for an attachable disc drive... what are other folks thoughts? Do you reckon the ps6 will be able to play discs?

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I reckon the current disc-less version is testing the water, but think there would still be enough of a backlash if they went completely digital, that they'll offer both from the off for PS6

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Ping! Hogwarts Legacy. Did enjoy it more than I thought bit a couple of annoying trophies tainted things a little.

Thought I'd try and motor though Astrobot after that, and mostly enjoying well enough. But there are some really frustrating side levels, lost count of my death toll on the 4 triangle sub levels in the 2nd area especially. Made decent progress though, completely finished the first 2 areas and made a start on the 3rd, so don't reckon it'll take too long

message 4265: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments The disc model with the option to add a disc drive seems like a good way of pleasing everyone.

The PS6 having no disc drive at all wouldn't stop me jumping in next gen as I play nearly everything digitally these days. It's far convenient and I've found the disc drive quite loud on the PS5.

I wouldn't have said this a few years ago but times change.

However, I don't love gaming anywhere near as much as I did. I may not carry on next gen for that reason instead.

Congrats Deck on your latest ping.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'm very tempted to chuck the controller at the tv because of Astrobot. Those circle, square, triangle, cross levels...whoever designed them I've no nice words for. I've just 3 of them left to go, but they've made the game amongst the most frustrating I've played. Just not fun at all

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments It's completely killed my enthusiasm for it, the main levels are fine, great even...but the boss fights aren't great at all and those other levels are just horrific. I've died less in thousands of hours of Dark Souls and its like. Definitely a lot to like but don't know exactly how it's so highly rated, good but nowhere near great. Astro's Playroom was better for me at least

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments And R must have had his Weetabix or spinach when he got his 5 kill streak in Space Marine 2 ;) Best I can manage is 3. Maybe it's time to break out the farming tools for a while

Yea those triangle levels in Astro Bot are insanely difficult. I have two left to do but no chance I’m going to bother now. Just the main levels for me - the challenge levels I’ve binned off. The boss fights in the main game are testing enough. They’ve added too many difficulty spikes for my taste. What's the saying, “Git Gud”. No thanks. I’d like to keep my sanity intact.

Deckard. You need to “Git Gud” for the 5 kill streak. I literally did it in less than two minutes of playing my first game. Or do they call that beginner’s luck. It can’t be, it has to be my skillz, surely 😉

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Git Gud....I prefer my gaming with minimal effort these days ;) The MP is surprisingly fun but not convinced with the balance at times. And they could do with a few more levels, I seem to play on the same one or two over and over.

Gonna leave Astrobot a while and come back to it when I've more patience. They should have added an easy mode where if you die a million times on a level, it takes 2 or 3 hits to kill you like the boss fights or something. The difficulty will mostly affect trophy hunters, which is probably the major reason it's annoying me. Obsessive compulsiveness is making it the opposite of the fun game it should be

message 4271: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments Does there look to be any scope to boost the 5 kill streak trophy in Space Marine 2? I've not booted the game up yet but know that it'll likely not happen for me naturally.

However, I guess this is the time to maybe go for it whilst the game is new and hasn't yet got loads of hard-core players.

I'll be making a start tomorrow but mainly on the campaign. Will give the PvP a little go before coming on here and asking R for tips.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Nah, no private lobbies unfortunately. Going to be down to luck of the draw, or mention R's name and hope they run off scared ;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Could probably stack the odds slightly in your favour by having a party of 3 working together but that's about it

message 4274: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments Because of a lot of the other trophies, we'll have to play that much PvP, chances are we'll eventually get it.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Ping! Astrobot. Hate to say but I don't rate it too highly. Fine for the most part, a fair amount of fun.... but some of the level design is more sadistic than FromSoft at their worst. Don't know how some websites give it a 3/10 for plat difficulty...

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Definitely need something a bit more laid back next, that final Astrobot level was too stressful and not much fun at all

I'm really not looking forward to some of these difficulty spikes in Astro bot's campaign levels :-(.

I have played a little bit more Space Marine 2 multiplayer. I must admit I'd struggle to get a 5 kill streak now as most people have 'git gud' since. As I played MP on official release day I think as everyone was running around like headless chickens that played to my advantage and I got the five kill streak easily. The only advice I could give is play as heavy (the loadout with the shield and mini-gun). Use the shield as you engage (shoot and throw grenade as a combined attack) and at any other time hide behind corners recharging your shield ability for the next engagement. And of course if you can play alongside others then strength in numbers - the teams that stick together do well.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments The main missions in Astro bot are generally fine, difficulty wise, and most of the others to be fair. It's some of the optional levels that soured the whole thing for me. Would have been interesting if they'd had a death counter, I reckon at least one level took me 30+ attempts.

message 4279: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments I still haven't started Space Marine 2 over a week after buying it.

I thought I'd do a quick thing on Aveum and then got drawn in again and have cleared one of the areas. Can see me just sticking with this until the bitter end now.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'm just over halfway through the campaign in Space Marine 2. Just doing a mission here and there rather than focusing on it. Gameplay wise, it's mostly good fun but the last mission I played had a really irritating boss and hope there's no more of that type before the end.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Think I'm gonna leave it until the weekend and try and polish off the campaign at least then

message 4282: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments What are you going to play in the meantime?

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Good question. Dark Souls 2 looks like being the only thing that's really sticking.

Was playing a bit of Judgment but since I finished it on PS4, seem to lose interest regularly in the PS5 version.

Gave Caravan Sandwitch a quick go but it's one I'd probably have to be in the mood for.

Flintlock, I read it was ok, doesn't do much wrong, but not a lot going for it either. They've did one of those things that's pointless to me though - added an easy mode but you can't earn trophies. So if I get stuck on normal, instead of knocking the difficulty down, I'll just give up completely. Another one I think I'll have to be in the mood for.

And reinstalled Persona 4, Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous and The Last Guardian for some reason to see if something sticks.

Maybe I should just stick with Warhammer ;)

Equinox80 | 665 comments Cleared another area on Aveum last night including one of the six, hard as nails optional* bosses.

* Not optional where trophies are concerned ;)

Going to try and clear at least one more small area tonight then do the bigger areas at the weekend.

I played some more Space Marine 2 MP last night. I didn't win one game and the other team got a lot more kills. The MP is fun but it's definitely lacking something - perhaps number and variety of maps, and a bit more balance between the classes. And map design leaves a lot to be desired - you can go minutes without seeing an enemy even on a full server. Long gone are my days of getting 5 kill streaks :-(.

message 4286: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments At least you got it ;)

That'll be the plat killer for me :(

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yeah, I'm not even considering platting Space Marine 2. The last few MP games I've had have been horrible. It's like the opponents are bullet sponges, yet my character is made of porcelain and just generally not a heap load of fun. I'm thinking I'll just stick to the campaign now, maybe a few of the co-op missions but I dont expect to hear the ping for this one

message 4288: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 665 comments Hopefully they may add private servers one day. Alternatively it might be something I get through a PSNP boosting session.

However, I think I'll do the sensible thing with this one and forget the plat and just enjoy it. Can't plat 'em all.

Played a bit more Space Marine 2 MP earlier. Got the trophy for winning a game with each class. Now I’ve had a bit of time with all classes I still think the heavy class is the best. Sniper might be ok for the 5 kill streak if you keep your distance. The best mode is Seize Ground which is Domination in any other game. In Annihilation (team deathmatch) the maps are too big for the mode.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've found the teams tend to bunch up in Seize Ground. You might be able to get a few kills, but you can easily have a lot of weapons pointed in your direction, you'll still need a fair amount of luck to get a run going. I'm not convinced by the heavy, feels like you need to be pretty close to do significant damage. The slight extra range of the Tactical type seemed like a decent choice for me at least, better rate of fire than the sniper as well as a bit more range. I did a bit better with it, but still nowhere near the 5 streak. The flashbang type grenades help a bit as well, slows opponents as well as blinding them

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Mostly playing Dark Souls 2 again at the minute. Definitely finding it more of a struggle. Can't seem to find a build I'm completely happy with. Still enjoying it more than when it was first out, but do think it'll wear me down eventually. Don't think I'll be able to brute force my way through this one

I think for any game mode in SM2 you can sit back and not do the objective and aim for a killstreak instead. Sniper seems quite effective - couple of shots mostly depending on the enemy class.

So looks like a bit of a gaming weekend for me considering the weather. Not sure whether to focus on SM2 campaign or Astro Bot, or a bit of both. It might be worth waiting for a SM2 patch, considering the awful performance on speed mode on PS5. In a way I wish I waited on buying one of them as with the new release season upon us there will be too much to play soon.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments New release season is looking like a barren wasteland for me. Very little I can see that I'd be enthusiastic about.

Dragon Age, maybe, but I'm a bit worried about it. As much as I complain about the lack of originality about, I'd much have preferred a remaster of the first game. Just don't trust EA or Bioware these days.

Tempted to pick up Dead Rising Remaster....mostly because I don't see much else upcoming.

I'll likely pick up the Silent Hill 2 Remaster....mostly because I don't see much else upcoming.

Wouldn't be surprised if I pick up Until Dawn Remaster...mostly because...you get the idea.

There are maybe a few others but nothing to get fired up over

For me on games pass it's the usual COD release, and then Stalker 2 and Indiana Jones. Then Assassin's Creed Shadows and the Metal Gear Solid remake (whenever that's out). These two I can buy/play on subscription whenever. Dragon Age also looks interesting but also depends on whether it's rock hard.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Beginning to think MGS3 won't be out this year. Then again, wouldn't be surprised if the only reason it hasn't got a release date yet is Konami wanting to get as many sales out of Silent Hill 2 and not wanting to draw attention away from it

Played some more Space Marine 2 multiplayer early. Defo got some more 5 kill streaks. I’m getting quite good now with 20+ kills regularly and MVP.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I don't know whether it's the area I live in, PSN, the PS5s WiFi or just my PS5, but this time of year, the connection always seems to be rubbish. General Internet connection etc is always fine, but the PS5 either struggles to connect to the router, the Internet or PSN at this time of year.

It's weird that everything else connected to the Internet is fine, and it's only this time of year and the past few years, but im expecting the now usual 2-3 weeks/month of constantly frustrating cut outs. Another PS Exclusive ;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've only been doing a game or 2 a night in the Space Marine 2 MP, which ain't likely to help a below average MP player. I plan on knocking out the capture and control & Seize Ground trophies over the weekend and if I feel like I'm getting better might stick with it and see if I can fluke the 5 streak. I seem to assist a lot more than kill

I’ve had connection issues with PS5. On WiFi it would disconnect every so often, maybe once a gaming session. Good strong signal, no issues with router or anything else connected to it. Tried everything- fixing the IP address etc but it didn’t help. Changed to hard wired Ethernet cable and it would disconnect, just as frequently, giving me an error message. Upgraded the Ethernet cable to something newer than cat5 and it’s solid now and has been since I changed the cable several months ago. My Series X is solid on WiFi or Ethernet cat5, whichever I use.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Good to know, might give it a try though ive enough cables running about. Don't see too many complaints about it but had a feeling that it's definitely a PS5 issue
