I've trawled the Games Pass and PS Plus Extra game catalogues and may have found a game I want to play. I mean there are some crackers on both services I haven't played - like the Resi Evil remakes, some souls games etc - but they're not for me but I have come up with Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2. I'll give it a go. I love Sniper Elite but I've played all of them.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Knocked off a couple of Dark Souls Remastered trophies, 6 years after the last ;) Still think it's relatively easy but definitely finding it a bit more stressful now.

Equinox80 | 666 comments I've hawed a few more misc trophies off Metro Last Light but not really got into it, or anything else of late.

Up to 79.83% completion on PSNP though ;)

Should be a new sale on the PS store sale today. Will have a browse for inspiration.

message 4154: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 666 comments The PS store failed to provide any inspiration...

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments yeah had a look myself and the sale looked pretty poor, not that I'd expected much

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Had one of those bad soul days in Dark Souls yesterday.

Thought I'd prepare to take on New Londo's ghosts without being cursed by making a cursed weapon. So spent a while gathering materials. Went to create the weapon...and forgot to look what stats I needed to use it....

So then thought I'd explore elsewhere while levelling to get the stats and decided on the Demon Ruins. Giant obviously fire resistant monster standing in lava....and I try to take it on with a sword imbued with fire.. After a few minutes, it was looking grim, so legged it back to the fog gate. Didn't realise there was a cheesy (probably more of a gimmick than a cheese) method of beating him but luckily stumbled on it. After fluking that, decided Demon Ruins was a bad idea with the sword, so looked for a third destination.

The Tomb of Giant Annoyances. Think I was having one of those days where concentration and patience was a bit lacking. If I wasn't falling down holes, I was jumping right into the middle of hard hitting enemies. Finally got the message, and went back to titanite farming

Error | 408 comments I'm doing what I tend to do when I'm a bit stuck between games...play Diablo. Currently running a martial arts assassin on Diablo 2.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I think I'll likely dust off Diablo 2 just before the dlc for IV hits, in an attempt to try and avoid picking that up till it's cheaper

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'm beginning to think that I subconscious do it on purpose. Spent a few hours grinding to get the stats to use the cursed greatsword of artorius, and before I get to the area it's of use end up cursed myself, making the sword completely unnecessary. Don't mind though, not a fan of greatswords, especially in areas it's likely to be bouncing off the walls every few minutes.

Did have fun with a boss fight I'd never previously found. Think it was a dlc one, the Sanctuary Guardian. Felt more like a modern FromSoft boss, always on the move, with only a few opportunities to counter. Managed to scrape through with no estus flask uses remaining.

Think I'll either take a break from Souls over the weekend or, more likely, mess about with a new character if I can't find anything that catches my attention

message 4160: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 666 comments There's a new weekend sale on the PS store. It looks a bit better than the August sale that launched on Wednesday but still nothing really jumping out.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Getting near the end of Dark Souls now, on to the final area. Seems like I'd gotten further than I'd realised any time I've played before. About the only main boss I don't remember at least trying is the Bed of Chaos. Not sure whether to plough on through to the end, or try and mop up as much as possible and prep for a future NG+ run. Can't see me getting the plat since it'll need one and a bit NG+ playthoughs, though since I've found it fairly easy this time around, it might be fine.

Started Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 over the weekend. Only played about 90 mins. It's a PS5 game but looks more PS4. It's enjoyable enough and the sniping is a bit more involved than Sniper Elite but pretty straighforward. I think Sniper Elite is the better game however. It'll keep me occupied for a weekend or two.

message 4163: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 666 comments I started the Valhalla DLC for GoW Ragnarok over the weekend. It's OK but not the amazing experience it's often made out to be.

It's free though so possibly a reason some reviewers got a tad over enthusiastic.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Finished Dark Souls, don't know why I'd not managed it before because it was pretty straightforward. Happy with that though. No idea what's next so might end up attempting a NG+ run and see how I go. And as abrupt endings go, it was ;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I think I'll take a break from Dark Souls Remastered. The difficulty in NG+ I don't think will be a problem but getting all rare weapons sounds like a bit of a pain, and to get one of the last miracles I need to grind out 10 items with a 6% drop rate (and think I might need some other covenant related stuff). I'll maybe try and get the miracle one for a bit, but if my luck is the way it usually is, I might leave the plat attempt for now.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'll probably regret saying this, but I think I'm mostly on track trophy wise in Souls. Still a few things that'll likely cause a headache but optimistic about it at the minute

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments And I see the TimeSplitters games have appeared on the store....very tempting

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Think I've found the reason I won't be platting Dark Souls - cutting off Seath's tail is a nightmare. Might upload the current save to the cloud, just finish the game and get the 2nd ending without worrying about the weapon trophy, then take a break. Can always download the earlier save and try again at some other point, because I reckon it'll drive me scaleless

message 4169: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 666 comments I've been plugging away at the GoW:R Valhalla DLC and finished the 'story'. It's an odd one in that I don't much look forward to playing it but once I am, I get stuck in. I've only got 2 more trophies to mop up and they're fairly straight forward so not sure how I've got the more 'involved' ones first.

I'm tempted to download TLOU Part 2 and try the No Return DLC. I'd written that off like Valhalla but it might be alright.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments And Ping! Dark Souls Remastered. Happy with that one. Seath's tail ended up being on of those you fail half a dozen times, take a break, and manage it the next try. The half playthough on NG+2 wasn't really any tougher than NG+, so rattled through what I needed pretty quick.

Reinstalled Dark Souls 2 now, but it's one I didn't really get along with. The limited respawning of enemies just limits everything for me. I'll give it a go and see if it clicks but might just move on to 3 while I'm in a Souls mood

message 4171: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments I've really gotten into a weekend only gaming pattern lately. I imagine I'll get back to it once the weather changes though. I do have a barely started pyromancer on Dark Souls which I need for the plat...maybe I'll go ahead and get in on the Dark Souls action myself.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments My pyromancer soon forgot his pyro maniacal ways and became mostly melee. Most of his tattered clothes survived until the end though, surprisingly tough.

I've decided to go full sorcerer in DS2 from the start, not sure whether that'll delay or speed up moving on to 3.

message 4173: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 666 comments Finished Valhalla last night. Glad it's done. It was decent as something to tide me over gaming wise but was getting very repetitive.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments So it's now not just dull, it's dull and repetitive ;)

Enjoying Dark Souls 2, may not be my favourite but still better than most soulslikes

That’s one hell of an achievement completing Valhalla. I gave up after 30 hours of dull repetition and barely half way through the campaign.

message 4176: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments I've only ever made it through Assassin's Creed 2. I can't imagine getting through these giant modern ones.

I will champion Dark Souls 2 forever. It's highly underrated and has many of the best locations in the entire series. Also best fashion souls, until Elden Ring came out.

message 4177: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 666 comments Sorry, Valhalla as in the GoW Ragnarok DLC. Just got fed up of typing the GoW bit every time haha

I wanted to play AC Valhalla when it was announced but glad I didn't. Sounded massively bloated. The only big open world AC I've played is Origins and I can't say I enjoyed that. Just felt like a chore clearing all the ?s off the map.

Will definitely try Mirage soonish but no plans to ever play Odyssey or Valhalla.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments My issue with the limited respawn of enemies in Dark Souls 2 is looking a bit daft. Farmed all of the enemies till they stopped spawning, up until the first boss and ended up about lvl 60. After that, joined the covenant of champions and jumped up a further 44 lvls in no time.

I used to think the limited respawn was a way of them forcing the online bits, now I think it's mostly down to the low levelling requirements. It was lvl 84 before it crossed the 10k mark, and you can get 1200 each time you kill the ogre near the start with the covetous silver serpent ring, meaning it's more than possible to get overlevelled early on. Think 2 has shot up in my evaluation ;)

Equinox80 | 666 comments I've made a start on Immortals of Aveum at last. So far so not bad.

Firing the spells feels as much like firing a gun as I was hoping. I'm playing on the third out of four difficulty levels and it's been quite tough in a couple of places but overall, not too bad.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Pretty sure it was mostly laziness that made me continuing with Aveum. If the easy mode had have been easier, I'd likely have stuck with it, but one not very fun section convinced me to give it a rest. Do plan on going back to it at some point but it's another that's well on the backburner....whatever one of those is ;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Kinda got a bit carried away with levelling in Dark Souls 2 over the weekend. Only beaten the pursuer and last giant so far, but managed to be a higher level than the character I'd got the DS1 plat with. Could probably get through to the end without levelling at all at this point, not that that's likely to happen.

Sorcerer looks like being a good choice, don't think I cope with the extra damage enemies do in the covenant of champions as a melee type, so would either have gotten bored of farming lesser enemies or just struggled on without

I did the same thing. I had one section that took me many tries to get through and that kind of killed my enthusiasm for the game. I keep thinking I'll get back to it, but haven't loaded it up yet.

Completed Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 and really enjoyed it. Good sniper game. Had a few bugs requiring last save reload - like holding invisible weapons - but nothing game breaking. 7/10 on the r-score-o-meter. Next unless something comes onto Game Pass or PS Plus Extra I think it’ll have to be a new release game. One of Astro Bot, Star Wars Outlaws or Warhammer. Needs must.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Made a bit of progress in Dark Souls 2. Think I'm probably as far as I got on the 360. Had considered a re-spec towards a melee type, as a fair few of the areas are a bit of a pain for a sorcerer, but found a few merchants that convinced me to stick with it a while longer. Definitely feeling a lot more settled this time, so reckon I'll at least be able to finish it

message 4185: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments Back half of DS 2 is the best. The DLCs were really good (and tough) too.

I'm also on the souls kick: got the pyro on DS1 up to Orstein & Smough. That is where I will pick things up whenever I get the chance.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Think I'm running out of steam in my Souls marathon. Either need to take a break or find something to play alongside, but no idea what

message 4187: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 666 comments I'm playing a chapter of Aveum per night but struggling to do anymore than that. It's got all the ingredients of a very good game but there's something not quite right about it. (Other than there obviously being a dedicated DEI team involved in it).

Will try and finish the story at the very least but not sure I'll want to spend the time required trying to plat it.

Morning all. Still not playing anything after Sniper Ghost Warrior. I did try the Blops 6 multiplayer beta on XBox Game Pass Ultimate. I didn't think it was possible to make a COD even faster (twitch shooting wise) but they have managed it yet again. Still not sure what my next game is, my gaming mojo is shot to pieces, but I'm eyeing Space Marine 2 most likely.

message 4189: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 666 comments I've been carrying on with Aveum and actually got a bit more into now. I'm unlocking new abilities and upgrading gear which is making it more enjoyable. Still keep hitting difficulty spikes but keep managing to scrape past them.

I also did the final extra bot trophy in Astrobot's Playroom. Since July they've added a PS themed bot to be rescued and an associates trophy in the run up to the new game being released. It was Ape Escape this time.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Struggling a bit myself with gaming enthusiasm at the minute as well. Possibly down to the dearth of new games of interest .Not been a vintage year so far.

Played a bit more Dark Souls 2, a bit of Diablo IV, and gave Black Myth Wukong a go, which isn't bad but looks a bit on the tough side. But overall, nothing is really inspiring me. Half tempted to pick up Hogwarts Legacy while it's on offer, even though I've less than zero interest in Harry Potter

message 4191: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 666 comments I've heard Hogwarts Legacy is meant to be good even if you're not a fan of Harry Potter. It's on my list to get at some point.

So did anyone pick up Concord? ;)

message 4192: by R(ob) (new)

Just pre-ordered Space Marine 2. Only went for the standard edition saving £5.50 with ps vouchers bought from cdkeys.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Concord's going down well right? I suppose it would be weirder if you saw a sack of bricks floating though ;) Not that i want to see the free to play model any more widespread, that type of game it would be pretty difficult to convince anyone to fork over cash these days

I think even if Concord went free-to-play it has still missed the hero-shooter boat which sailed years ago. And other recent hero-shooters have equally missed the mark/boat. Massive failure. From what I played of the beta it was completely uninspired and unoriginal but otherwise competent. I can only see Sony supporting it for a year then pulling the plug on further updates, or putting it on PS Plus (or free to play) and hoping it picks up a larger audience - it's probably doomed to fail now.

I think the only new multiplayer shooter to stand a chance on console (which is not currently one of the big hitters) is Delta Force.

Hogwarts legacy is fantastic, and nothing to do with Harry Potter nor any of the characters in Harry Potter. It's set in the 1800s before anyone from the Harry Potter books/films was born. Set in the wizarding world yes, Harry Potter no.

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments Ping! Terminator Resistance Enhanced. Not a hard one but also not too grubby.

That's both Terminator and Robocop pinged this year. Both great fun, Robocop was better, better characters, better writing, acting, more fun gameplay, but Terminator was still a fun little game, and Enhanced runs super smooth etc on ps5. Performance wise probably better than Robocop, but Robocop better in every other way - just.

Both really nailed their license though. Teyon a good little dev!

Yea both really good games for a small dev. I platted both too but I probably only very slightly preferred Terminator.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Took a gamble on Hogwarts Legacy. Only played the prologue while it was installing so far, but better than I'd expected early on at least.

There are also trophies for killing 20000 and 40000 enemies in total. That's quite the grind.

Forget the trophies, enjoy the game? Go for the plat if it's fun and doable but first and foremost enjoy the game?
