Is CoD still as relevant these days? Yeah, it still probably sells by the fish load and has its plaice in history, but I reckon it's haddocks day...I'm definitely floundering...

I'm tempted by PS5 Pro but for the sake of 3 years before PS6 (which I intend to buy) it seems like a lot of money for a short lived pro console lifespan. I mean I enjoyed PS4 Pro and One X, more the latter as it was more powerful and you could see it, but the big benefit of PS4 Pro/One X console was that they were the first 4k machines and that was a massive step-up. PS5 Pro will definitely be less of an improvement comparatively mid gen. I mean I want 4k 60fps but surely I can wait 3 more years for that rather than fork out yet another £500-600. And plus I don't think even PS5 Pro will be 4k 60FPS.

Yea we are yet to see if the really big xbox exclusives will go to PS5 - my guess that Gears E-Day, Fable, Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3 probably won't, or at least not for a long while.
Yeah COD isn't what it was but still has enough about it to reel people in.
I've really been wanting some positive development news on Fable and State of Decay 3 for years.

There is a chance that I get a ps6 IF it has a disc drive or at least an optional disc-drive. I don't really have any interest in an all-digital console...and I really think the ps6 will be all-digital.
I also don't think the ps5-pro will be able to to native 4k/60fps, but I do think that the all-but-confirmed PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) / aka Sony's name for the same technology as Nvidia's DLSS / AMD’s FSR, will upscale (simulate) the effect, and maybe even upscale to 4k/120fps. While again - it won't be won't be native, it will probably still look brilliant, the same way as the ps4-pro wasn't native 4k but was checkerboard (simulated) 4k and in reality looked like native 4k to the naked eye.
Actual basic graphics/animations/particle effects/detail in games etc. is more than brilliant enough for me in ps5 games - so yeah, ps5-pro will deffo be enough, and I also want my console to play discs :)

Ah I see. I thought you were like 90 years old and wasn't expecting to live long enough to PS6. That's good news then if it's only the potential lack of disk drive that puts you off :-).
Yea checkerboard rendering looked OK but when I used a One X alongside a PS4 Pro you could see the higher native resolution. I mean I only sit like 6 feet away from a large TV screen so it's pretty noticeable. OK nothing major, certainly could live with checkerboard rending, but I noticed the improvement in sharpness and clarity on the One X compared to Pro.
I am considering to go streaming only next gen for XBox. However, FPS games you definitely notice the lag. Racers I find it perfectly fine. OK and the resolution takes a hit but if saves me several hundred pounds then I think I might take the resolution hit. One thing for sure being a dual console owner I really don't think is worth it nowadays - albeit I think that will pick up towards the end of current gen. The only reason to be dual console currently is for games pass and the money saving aspect if you play a lot of games you could play on PS5 but included on games pass. And over the years a lot of big AAA third-party games have come to games pass on release day, or soon after.

Played a bit more V Rising, which I'm mostly enjoying. I do think it'll get to be too much of a grind eventually. Even only as far as Act 2, there's a bit of a difficulty spike and the materials needed to upgrade look like it could be a chore. Also started the PS4 version of Art of Rally, and enjoying playing it again
I've changed my stance on digital only and quite happy to go without discs in the future.It's so convenient picking up games in PS store sales or playing via PS+. I can switch between games without getting off Mt backside too.
I'm currently playing Spider-man 2 from disc and the disc drive is quite noisy. Although to be fair it doesn't read the disc for long.
Forgot to add, it'd have to be digital only where stuff can be downloaded. I'm definitely not ready streaming.
Same here. I remember saying years ago that if consoles went digital only, I'd quit gaming. Now, I can't remember the last physical game I bought. Not sure I'd fancy it if it was streaming only either though
I think I'm going to bump my PS+ sub down to Essential level. The Extra offerings have been poor of late.

The reason I assume that is because if I wanted to I could stream XSX/SS games through my X1S (I did consider it for Starfield but thought again because I like to own a game I'm playing - even if that ownership is digital-only on an SSD - just so I can play with no internet connection if I wanted/needed to, also I didn't want to pay for any kind of GamesPass...and because it turned out Starfield isn't all that).
But streaming-only consoles would be pretty cheap no? And a more viable option if you're ok with not actually owning any games, if internet connections were/are fast enough and reliable enough?
If internet connections are fast and reliable enough...mine isn't ;) Quick enough, yes but times it constantly cuts out, and to fix it, I'd have to move house because the whole area ain't great. So not really a viable option for me ;)

I believe, in the UK, it's only Samsung TVs since 2020. Not sure about other regions. Hopefully they support other TV brands over time. If you have a tablet or smart phone you can stream to these too, albeit it on a much smaller screen. Apple iOS doesn't have a native app but MS have provided support to a browser - which I've tried and works quite well. Streaming is definitely a compromise but if you want a quick easy way to access games it works well enough - all depending on the quality of your internet connection. I only have 60Mbps down/18Mbps up and it's fine for me.
Yeah I would like to game occasionally on the giant 70inch in the movie room. My wife, however, has declared that a console free zone for aesthetic reasons. I accept that since I have half the house full of my stuff anyway. The streaming would be perfect in that situation.

I'm surprised MS haven't released a cheap dongle equivalent to a fire tv stick. It'd have to be really cheap though - like £30-50 here in the UK as most streaming sticks are around this price.
Off topic..Euro 2024 Germany vs Scotland...took at least 10 mins into the match before the first mention of England...is that a record? ;)

Well over a week and the PS Stars app is back....to tell you it's not working. You'd think such a consumer facing business would be better at handling these sort of things
Ping! - Spider-man 2Story wasn't bad and the combat is always fun. The formula for these games has got a bit repetitive though and clearing the map of icons started to feel like a chore towards the end.
Mostly played V Rising the past few days but think I'm done with it for now. A lot I like about it, but some of the gameplay design choices make it a lot more frustrating than it needs to be. The cooldown for the dodge, for example, is a ridiculous 8 seconds. In an action type game, that's a lifetime....and it's made worse by the next to useless healing items. They heal over time but hit by an enemy, and it immediately stops, making it pointless in boss fights especially. Doesn't help that a few of the boss fight aren't the most fun to begin with. But it would all be manageable if the dodge cooldown was shorter. I do like the game, honest ;)Now looking forward to getting stuck into the Elden Ring expansion tomorrow

I completed the Dead Space remake. Really good. Really stands the test of time and is better than most single player game nowadays.
I'm not playing anything at the moment. Still Wakes The Deep looks a bit crap and Hellblade 2 looks even worse. So, I’m struggling for my next game. I did wonder about Diablo 4 - first obvious question from me - is it rock hard for a Diablo noob like me?
Diablo IV, you shouldn't have much trouble finishing the story with minimal deaths. It's far from being difficult imo.
Thinking about doing something daft like start a new character in Elden Ring before venturing into the expansion. Had a quick wander about it and pretty much immediately, there were a few places I had a look at, and thought maybe I'll come back later, not sure I fancy taking you on straight away. Doesn't look like there are any extra trophies, unless they've not updated that yet. I reckon that's me sorted for the next 100-200 gaming hours anyway
Just read there are no extra trophies for the Elden Ring DLC.It's a bit rubbish but at least your 100% will stay intact.
Yeah, would have been nice if they'd added some more trophies, and they are usually a good indication of progress, but not the end of the world. I'll pass the 700 hour mark on the PS5 version soon and only a relatively small amount of that time was spent on trophy hunting, so it'll not be an issue.And I think I've convinced myself to start a new game, it'll get me back into the swing of things, at least. Was very rusty what little I'd started of the expansion

I did watch some footage from Still Wakes the Deep and did think it looked pretty decent but sounded a bit too much sneak/distract/run type of horror, which I don't generally get on with. So still a no chance from me
Started a new game in Elden Ring but the lure of exploring somewhere new was too much. so ended up making a start on Shadow of the Erdtree. More of the same unsurprisingly. which is more than fine by me. Will say though that even at lvl 203, I still get my ass kicked occasionally.And just one more trophy in Art of Rally (PS4) but it's the complete 1000 stage one, which I'm not really in the mood for at the minute. One of those trophies that turns a "fun game, enjoyed it" into a "mostly fun but the end was a bit of a chore"
Morning all. I've got stuck into some rallying as well in the form of EA Sports WRC. Only played about an hour so far but feels nice. Will probably start career mode tonight.I think next time I see Art of Rally on sale, I'll have to pick it up. Looks good.
I reckon I've died more in the expansion than I did in the whole of the plat attempt for Elden Ring. Yesterday alone, I fell to my death I don't know how many times in a place that needed a bit of precision jumping. In general though, apart from a couple of fights, I wouldn't say it's significantly harder, I've just been more than a little clumsy. Still, it's good to be back wasting upgrade resources on weapons I'll never use ;)
I had a wonderful weekend full of games and lawn care; mowing and moving hoses about mostly. Beyond that, I hid in the house and tried to stay cool. I'm trying to make to the final boss battle in Jedi Outcast. Unfortunately, I keep getting caught up in side quests as I work my way up a mountain. I also put a lot of hours into Elden Ring. Leveled up my claw and arrow build and progressed to the main end-game area. I'll get the DLC eventually, but I'm no hurry to do so. Had to get in some Diablo IV as well. I like how it is tuned right now. Leveling is super fast. I got a barb up to the mid 60s and really have not invested that much time in it.
The first few new weapons I found in the Elden Ring dlc were interesting claw variations, though one of them didn't seem to look like they'd be a lot of use in combat. Looked like you'd be hitting the ground more than your opponent. Not a build I'd be likely to get far with
I love the claw/arrow combo. Anything I can't bumrush and bleed out I can pot shot from afar. Their ability to stagger and bleed is impressive. Do you know those giant guard demons that prowl underneath Lyndell? The Subterranean Shunning Grounds? If you start off with a charged strong attack then spam light attack they can't even get their own attack off before you trigger bleed twice and they go down. It's counterintuitive, but I've found that often brute force works better than dancing around with the claws.
You've convinced me..well maybe not to start a claw and bow build, but I think I'll start another new game before continuing with the expansion. Shadow of the Erdtree does feel a fair bit more stressful than the main game, even at lvl 207. Not sure what sort of lvl I'd have to be to feel a bit more relaxed in it, possibly maximum ;)
And was further convinced by a helpful dragon with a ridiculously damaging aoe attack. And one of those the lock on is less than useless for a melee type, as you can only target its chest and head. A lot of the fights I'd manage fine...if they didn't hit so hard ;)
I think Shadow of the Erdtree is going to be beyond me. I've beaten a couple of the main bosses without too much difficulty, but now it seems whatever direction I go, I'm faced with imminent death. It's a bit all over the place difficulty wise, they could have done with toning it down a notch or two...but then this is From Software I guess
Tempted to take a gamble on Still Wakes The Deep as a change of pace. My gut feeling is telling me though, that it'll have at least 2 or 3 really annoying section, after which I'm left swearing at R, possibly in Scottish ;)
I reckon it'll be a contender for ps+ though at some point, so might wait. Probably have a better opinion of it if it's "free"

I see there's a trophy to play the game in Scottish Gaelic....now it all makes sense..I thought it was down to the tech jargon but the reason no one could understand Nessy was that he was speaking a foreign language! Linear, story focused...normally not often floating my boat but think I'm in that kind of mood at the minute. Think I'll take a gamble, always did like The Thing
