I´ll play at normal difficulty cause i need that feeling of safety of knowing that i can lower the difficulty if i get stuck anywhere.
I have gamepass for a long time now but i never stopped feeling i was cheating my backlog whenever i play a game from there.

Jedi survivor graphics when I played it left a lot to be desired. Constant screen tearing in 60fps and resolution so low most X360 games looked sharper. I think it has since been patched so I hope they resolved a lot of the graphical problems. I believe they've just patched Starfield with a 60fps mode too. I really need to learn not to play certain games on or soon after launch.
I'm really struggling for my next game. All the new PS+ monthly games look frustrating: Tunic and Ghostrunner 2. And FC24 isn't my bag. I might start the Dead Space remake but TBH I'm not that excited to play it again. It was very good back in the day but it was never a game I felt the need to play a second time even with the better updated graphics.

Yeah I have obviously only started Jedi Survivor after it has been patched to within an inch of its life lol - so for me it looks and runs brilliantly but I am fully aware of all its launch issues.
I'm the same with Cyberpunk in that I'm now interested. It's at least 50% cheaper than at launch, and completely patched up, so I may now take the plunge. It's extremely rare that I buy a game until it's been out probably at least a year, or if I do buy it / am gifted it etc. then I won't play it until it's had it's fair share of patches.
Dead Space remake was actually one of the few exceptions to this as my missus bought it for my bday and it got a big patch within a few days of release which by all accounts massively improved the graphics (and I don't think it's needed any more patches since then?) - so I played that very close to it's release - and it is amazing :)

The Ascent is an excellent game. Try the photo mode too - as you can move the camera anywhere - the visuals are amazing. They could have done it as an FPS and the world would have been unbelievable. It was definitely a challenging game the further you get into it but there are two things that made the game a lot more manageable - a mini-gun and there was something where you spam regenerating health quickly. I can't remember what it was called as I played it years ago. Without the latter item I think I would have given up. I'm sure some guide would help you find these items - that's what I did.

I'll have a mess about and a further read to make sure it's gamebreaking, and it's early enough on the game that restarting won't be too bad, but it's an unnecessary irritation
Yea it can be challenging but very good. I tended to stick to the main missions but did a few side missions to get better stuff on recommendation of guides I read/watched.

I'm surprised they haven't fixed that bug. I ran into it when I played, but restarting was actually a good thing. I got more powerful in half the time since I was already familiar with early game missions/locations. Ended up finishing the game with one mission bugged so couldn't get 100%. Good game with fantastic graphics and some performance/design issues that held it back from being "great".

Think it's a case of right game at the right time though, for a change

Might take a break from it and polish off Dave the Diver though, it looks fairly playable. We'll see though, there's likely something that'll hold me up

When you ping a ps5 game and then immediately move onto the ps4 version, if there is a ps4 version available...surely you're doing it the wrong way round? Surely play the ps4 version first then move straight onto the better experience/the ps5 version? Rather than moving from better version to worse version, better to step forwards rather than step backwards?

I've not been playing a lot recently. I did do another codex mission on Warframe but it only took less than an hour. I then started Dead Space remake and it looks very nice but after 1 hour I put it down and thought to myself I'm not sure I feel the need to play this again. Still in two minds to continue but I really haven't got a lot screaming out to me to play from my back log (of mostly PS+ monthly freebies).
Last weekend I did see Dune 2 for the first time. The first Dune (as in the Denis Villeneuve film) was pretty decent but nothing special. The sequel however is absolutely brilliant in my opinion. I loved it. I was hooked from start to finish. It had some amazing scenes and flowed well. And the cinematography was superb. Honestly best big budget sci-fi probably since Bladerunner 2049 - I loved that too. Very excited for the third film.
Other than that I've been splashing the cash. I upgraded my gaming TV last year to a 65inch QLED but my living room TV was still a six year old pretty basic LCD panel. So I'm upgrading tomorrow to an OLED (QD-OLED) and very excited to watch Dune 2 on it again.

I've been thinking for a while I'm long overdue an upgrade. I'd bought my current one back at the start of 4k console gaming, pretty much the cheapest I could find, and it's did great.
But I wonder if it's better to hold off. Current consoles/developers have pretty much proven the limitations in terms of performance vs quality. My TV can still handle most of it, so I'm thinking it might be better to wait to hear if either Sony or MS have any further hardware plans and basing a new TV off that. The vast majority of the current TVs use is gaming (shocking I know ;) ) so I'm thinking if it's still doing the job, it could easily end up a waste of money to upgrade now...
It depends on how good/sheet your current TV is. If it's an LCD, that's not very bright, with no decent local dimming or not OLED then you could see a big picture quality improvement buying a more modern TV which is at least mid-range (not a cheapo TV). I doubt you'd use 120Hz by the sounds of it - but you never know? Most modern mid-range TV's support 120Hz HDMI.
I've just bought a QD-OLED (Samsung) 55 inch with a high peak brightness for an OLED and infinite contrast - any game on that should look stunning. It's approx £1000 and that's considered cheap for an OLED. First launched last year it was over £2000 but as the newer model has just come out (again over £2000) you can get last year's model very cheap comparitively.
My gaming TV is a QLED - has hundreds if not thousands of dimming zones to help with achieving better blacks. However is very very bright around 2000 nits peak brightness which helps massively with HDR. Plus it's 65 inch and 120Hz.
I've never owned an OLED TV so I'll let you know which I prefer for gaming - going to put my XBox on it for a while.
If you're looking for a cheap mid-range then it's either a Samsung s90c or an LG C3 - both OLED. There are samsung QLEDs worth considering too. These are the best options on price whilst being very decent TVs. John Lewis are doing a deal with £100 off with a code and then another £100 gift voucher that you redeem later on another purchase - plus comes with free 5 year warranty. AO also do the same TVs for around £1000 - but only 1 year warranty. £1000 sounds a lot but these are very good TVs. And pretty much half price from when they were launched. Anything else cheaper I'd wait until your TV gives up.

120hz I'm a little curious about. It's definitely not something my current tv is capable of. Does it make a major difference? I've seen maybe 2 or 3 games this gen with the option to support it. Would it make a difference to those that don't? Or in general?
Should have asked for a dummys guide ;)

I think 120Hz is mostly for fast multiplayer if you're a really competitive multiplayer gamer - COD supports it for example. Some single player games support it but they are only a few. You do notice a difference between 60Hz and 120Hz - it feels a lot smoother, and more responsive as the input lag is reduced too. For me it's very noticable that 120Hz is better than 60HZ - but I'm happy with 60Hz TBH. The biggest drawback is any game that supports 120 reduces resolution. COD for example, and if my memory serves me correct, drops from 4k down to around 1200-1400p. Some other games will drop further - you always notice a softness to the resolution of 120Hz games. For next gen that might be a lot better :-). 120 Hz without the game supporting it doesn't help those games that don't support it. Sony recently for some of their exclusive games - I think Spiderman is one - support 40Hz. So the game uses 120Hz but renders at 40Hz - 120 divided by 3 - so it gives a slight smoothness boost but nothing massive. Again only on games that support it.
Yea HDR is basically worth nothing and you won't notice it unless you have a high peak brightness - 1000 nits plus. Plus poor blacks don't help that's why OLED or a TV with a lot of dimming zones helps too. I think 4k has a bigger impact than HDR - for sure - but if you have both on a good TV it can really make the colour, details and image pop.
TVs with very good HDR I appreciate but for some people it's not a big deal - depends on the individual. Same with 120Hz. I think 60Hz is a sweet spot most notice and are happy with the extra smoothness but anything more - 120Hz - is no big deal.

I don't think you necessarily have to go that high-spec. Certainly if you're going OLED then if you want any brightness for halfway-decent HDR then you have to go up the OLED range a bit more and then it gets pricey. Entry-level OLEDs have amazing contrast and motion and all that good stuff, but aren't all that bright so HDR isn't great on them.
If I was on a bit of a budget but still wanted to buy a quality 65" TV today that would be great for gaming (up to 120hz in game mode, VRR, allm, Freesync Pro - across all 4 hdmi's - all hdmi 2.1), and pretty great at everything else too, including a great OS with every app you can think of available then I would seriously look at the Samsung Q80C.
It's Samsung's top-end QLED (before the Neo-QLED and then OLED ranges) from last year, direct-lit, full-array local dimming, great contrast (not OLED great, but still great), gets bright so great HDR. 65" can be picked up for well under £800 at a couple of reputable outlets.

Yea QLEDs are great too. If you can get a QLED from Samsung for cheaper I’d definitely recommend it. I have a Samsung QN90B. The two OLEDs I mentioned are not top end, more mid range. The Samsung QD-OLED goes over 1000 nits so for HDR it’s reported to be very impressive. The LG C3 I believe is 800nits but apparently still has good HDR. Now if you want top end it’s got be an LG G3 but it has quite a price bump.
Got to say I don’t like the OS on Samsung nowadays. It was better a few years ago.

Ubisoft try to join a genre years after the rest and without much fanfare or publicity but they expect demand be so big that their server's can only handled by downloads days in advance and yet despite this it's pretty much guaranteed there will be all kinds of hell day one. Why not pay for a few more server's and then reduce on demand...considering the cost they put into development a few more quid for a major developer like Ubisoft...
I'm generally a fan of Ubi, they more often than not put out stuff equal or better that some of the first party stuff, but recently they've gone a bit backwards imo

Unpacking (PS5)
Unpacking (PS4)
The first one of those is shameful but I enjoyed the simplicity and quick turnaround.
Unpacking is a nice chill game on PS+ Extra. Not long at all so could manage both versions one after another. I really don't know how you do this with longer games though Deck. Would drive me mad.

For some reason I've reinstalled Elden Ring even though there's still a month or so before the expansion is out. Half tempted to try and get another character to the end before then, or maybe just mess about.
Reinstalled Diablo IV as well and was enjoying a bit of that.

Ping! - Splash Cars
Another almost grubby but fun little games. Currently on sale for £1.60 approx. Plat unlocked a lot sooner than expected as I only got through around half the maps and cars.
Fun little game where you drive around the map to paint it before running out of fuel. Get X% done to unlock the next map and so on.

Would be tempted to plat but for the pvp trophy. 1. I'd likely suck and take forever to get the wins, and 2. the pvp areas are always empty every time I've visited. Seriously have never seen anyone apart from me in one

I have also just started Jedi Survivor. Nothing to do with Gamepass, I just had it in my backlog. It's all very impressive so far, just finished the first level. Very good looking, smooth (have gone for performance mode) and good slick combat.
I almost immediately knocked the difficulty down to easiest though lol. There are no difficulty related trophies and I just want to feel like a powerful Jedi who can slice through standard droids or clones like butter rather than getting minced by a guy with a blaster because I have run out of blocking energy etc.
Amazing how much better the gameplay looks compared to the cutscenes, sharper and smoother, it's obviously traditionally been the other way around but game engines have come a long way!
