The Video Game Forum discussion
What have you been playing: before the forum was deleted?

AC Odyssey too, and Burning Shores, GoW Ragnarok, both Spiderman 2 and Silent Hill 2 at some point, and before we know it, GTA6 lol
Is anyone else hyped for Warhammer Space Marines 2? I'm not a Warhammer guy, but I remember the demo for Space Marines 1 (ps3) was pretty fun, and all the videos for Space Marines 2 just look awesome.

The preview I watched of Space Marine 2 made it look incredible. I didn't play the first game but will definitely be following along to see how it is received.

I believe you can transfer the save from the ps4 version so any common trophies auto pop.

From replaying the start though I think Glass was on to something ... the awkward glances at the start, followed by a clumsy serenade...Joel was definitely about to be arrested ;)

I can confirm this is true. On that note...
Ping - TLOU 2 Remaster

I've had to take my time as I've struggled to get on my PS5 before 9:30-10:00pm most nights and averaging less than one chapter a night. I'm about to start chapter 11 so in the final third now though. As things stand, I think I'd have to say I prefer the first game although there's not much between them. The story is a little all over the place sometimes and there have been a few sections where you're forced into combat and it doesn't quite work. The first game was also guilty of this but I've found it more grating this time as its a missed opportunity to improve things. Still not come across anything as infuriating as the final boss from the first game yet though thankfully.
Still enjoying it overall despite the niggles :)

You wouldn’t catch Danger Deckard doing that. He’s pure to the cause.

I thoroughly enjoyed the original game. I'm not much of a Warhammer fan since most of the games are MP/online or some other type of game that annoys me, but if SM2 is anything like the first game, it should be a blast.

Hi all
Cant say all all too interested in repaying Tlou 2 tbh.
If the update was free i might think about it but im surely not paying 10 bucks just to replay it.
Been playing Hogwarts Legacy for some days now.
Im not a big Harry Potter fan but i´ve watched all the movies so i really like the attention to detail the devs put into the world they built.
Everywhere i look there´s some nice little thing hapenning.
I also like the lighter tone of the game. Every one is nice and polite which is something im in the mood atm.
Havent had many fights so far (had one at the very beginning and i just fought 1 armored troll) so all i can say is that it doenst feel bad and not overly easy.
Im also playing Bramble the Mountain King as a side game and that game is sick. Very very imersive.
Lastly, Joel is a pervert!! haha

Is anyone on here interested in Helldivers II? I'm thinking of jumping in on this day one.

I have never had this issue with any other AC game. I know if the enemy does a 'gold' attack you can parry and if it's 'red' then dodge but i am finding the telegraphing isn't enough in advance so it's better to just dodge whatever, but the dodge is rubbish, so easy difficulty it is!!

Yes the dodge is pretty awful in AC Mirage. It was the same for me. I enjoyed the game though. I didn't rate Valhalla at all.

I've been ill with a cold/covid for about a week now but I did get a few hours in on Alan Wake 2 at the weekend. Got to my second boss fight where I had to fight the two brothers. Again I found it frustrating as reloading any weapons in this game is so slow I just end up getting battered and frustrated. Still, I loved the new area of caravan trailers and the theme park - best area yet. Think I'm about half way through the game now. Really enjoying the game but it's not without its flaws.

Having reached the end I stick by my comment that the first is the better game. The ending of the second certainly had more impact though.
When you're playing in stealth or solving small puzzles the game really shines but there were a few too many occasions where the game forces you into combat. The game mechanics don't exactly shine in these situations and they often descend into Benny Hill style chases round an area whilst you line up shots.
There were a few too many forced sprint sections too. They ramp up the feeling of urgency but were overdone towards the end of the game, losing their impact.
If the first game was an 8.5/10 then this has to be a 7-7.5/10. Good but not great.

It's a long time since I played Requiem but I didn't have any real complaints. I liked how it didn't have any difficulty spikes like the first which were really out of place with the rest of the game - really appreciated an ending that was impactful but not a frustration like the first game. And I appreciated what they did with the more open areas for exploration. Perhaps the only complaint from me would be these open areas weren't the greatest game play wise - I remember not knowing what to do next on occasion. And perhaps my memory isn't the greatest but Requiem seemed more polished especially in the variety of environments and the graphics. I think I only really remember one benny hill section going through a swamp I think it was at night and enemy chasing me, and having to run around trying to take them out - but other than that seemed mostly OK to me but like I say my memory isn't the greatest.

The Benny Hill moments for me were mainly where you fight waves of enemies where Arnaud is about to be hanged, before you rescue him.
Then later when Arnaud is fighting the Count on the beach, you have to deal with waves of enemies.
There were a few other terrible combat bits, although not necessarily Benny Hill-esque earlier on. One in a barn where about 7/8 enemies drop down from a ledge. Its a small area so not much time to line up shots. Possibly the worst one is where you're on the ship with Arnaud whilst it gets boarded by the Count and his troops. There's only a little area you can stand in and you have to keep using the bow and slingshot to thin out the numbers so Arnaud doesn't get overwhelmed.
To be fair there were a few similar bits in the first game but none that seemed to go on as long. I was also glad there wasn't anything as obnoxious as the first games' final boss fight in Requiem as that was rage inducingly hard.
Like you, there were a bits in Requiem where I wasn't sure where to go or what to do next either.

Actually yes I do remember those moments now. Amazing how it comes flooding back to me after a little reminder. I do remember failing the ship combat a few times albeit didn't find it too frustrating - but yea I'll give you that one as it was defo difficult to keep on top of fending them off before it got to the point of game over. The beach combat section I think I did it first time and didn't have too much of an issue with it. I take your point though those sections didn't shine in terms of great combat. They should have stuck to stealth and combat when stealth goes wrong. Still, nothing compares to the sections in the first game which were so frustrating I nearly gave up - the one part way through where you had to kill enemies coming in from various doors/entrances and the final boss battle. I'm remembering more about the second game now and I did like the ship as a hub and some of the maps were superb in terms of atmosphere.

Thankfully I didn't find any of the sections I mentioned too difficult, just not very enjoyable. They were a bit silly because the enemies moved so slowly, you could just keep walking round in a circle, crafting and lining up shots without much danger of being caught (except by archers or soldiers throwing spears). It just didn't work well.
I dropped the difficulty down to easy fairly early on and upgraded the sling and crossbow as a priority.
I'm probably looking back at the game with rose tinted glasses which in turn possibly overly increased my expectations of the second game.

I'm playing Star Ocean 2 right now. I've quite enjoyed it. I've also been dealing with my PC which is intermittently freezing. I've tried everything I can think of, so I have ordered a new laptop to use while I drag the desktop to the repair shop.
Hi everyone
Requiem was a really good game...apart from the final boss which was pure rubish and out of place. I hated it!!!

You might getting Innocence and Requiem mixed up. Requiem is the second game but the first game had the terrible final boss.

After a few days off from gaming I've got this one over the line. Only had to play up to chapter 7 (out of 16) in NG+ which wasn't too bad.
You can't tweak the difficulty in NG+ and having played on easy mode first time round, a few of the early sections were quite annoying. Glad to have this one done though.
I might start The Crew: Motorstorm properly tonight. I played about 15 mins two weeks ago and decided I wasn't in the mood but feeling it a bit more now.
Morning all. Still plugging away on Alan Wake 2. I think I'm through all of Saga's missions (bar end of game) and just have the remaining Alan missions to do - so think overall I'm 2/3rds of the way through the game. Still enjoying it but defo some aspects I don't like. And why I'm going for the platinum trophy I don't know but it looks on the cards assuming I don't miss anything in the final third in the Alan missions.

I almost missed a lunch box but I could see I was missing it in the mind room so went back to get it albeit at the expense of 15-20 mins of effort. Apparently I only have a couple of weapons and several videos to get. It's the videos that concern me. I hope I didn't miss any previously - I think I have all the saga related videos (bar one in the very final mission) but the Alan videos I still have several to get and some are apparently highly missable.

And yeah, it was one of the videos in the Wake part of AW2 that I missed,

I've tried a couple of times to get into The Crew Motorfest but the handling feels off and the dudebro aesthetic, grating.
I really like the look of Helldivers 2 out next week but it looks very coop orientated. Hopefully it can be played with random but I've heard it's more geared towards coordinated teams so will have to see.

It does indeed appear to allow you to go back to chapters already completed. That's a relief just in case I do (already have) missed something.

FH4 was £18 and FH5 £27. FH5 massive download - 133gb!!

Completed Alan Wake 2. Got the platinum trophy.
I enjoyed AW2. Remedy really are one of the very best game devs, they really have a love for crafting all aspects of a game to be best in class. I can see why this game got 9-10/10 and game of the year for so many. That being said some of it wasn’t my thing but that doesn’t mean it was poorly done. I really didn’t like the investigation board with the cases. It took up too much time, was over bloated with hundreds and hundreds of facts and clues. Just tell me the story as I’m playing the game passively is all I want. I actually preferred Saga’s levels compared to Alan’s as they were just more immersive. The reality changes with the light thing really got annoying for me in the Alan missions. Both Alan’s and Saga’s missions had amazing and atmospheric environments that I loved exploring. Combat was good much like AW1. And I liked that it was semi open world for the most part. So in terms of the quality of the game it’s a 10 but for my own personal enjoyment factor probably an 8. Not disappointed in the game at all and I really enjoyed it but I would have enjoyed it more if the things I didn’t like were tweaked or not in the game at all.
And now I’ve moved onto Evil West. Early days but seems like a fun throwaway game.

I've downloaded a few short games available through PS+ as a way to coax myself back into gaming but I can't find the motivation for them either.
However, I'm almost certainly picking up Helldivers 2 on Thursday, possibly even preordering it as it just looks amazing and great fun. The more I see of previews, the better it looks. And at only £35, I think it'll be phenomenal value.
I know there are a few people on here looking forward to Space Marine 2 in Sept (myself includes) and I think this will more than scratch that third person shooter, coop, killing waves of enemies itch for many months to come.
Thanks Equinox. I’m in double digit plats now ;-).
I’ve no plans to plat any other games except maybe Terminator Resistance as it’s supposed to be an easy one. I’m leaving Terminator until after Evil West and some other games I’ve bought. Plat chasing isn’t for me really.
I’ve watched a few videos on Hell Divers. Looks ok but I wouldn’t buy it unless it really got glowing reviews. It’s one of those games I’d happily play on games pass ps plus but doesn’t look like it would keep my interest for long.

Have started on AC Mirage now. It's pretty enough but seems very light compared to H:FW. Basim just seems to skip across the ground like he's weightless etc. I normally like AC games though, the last one I played was Origins last year and I loved it (have Odyssey sitting waiting to play too) so I'm sure all will be fine.
After H:FW had a little blast on Aliens Fireteam Elite which seems fine but is completely disposable. One to dip into for a pure mindless blast every now and then.
The main thing I played between H:FW and now has been TLoU2, a ng+ speedrun on light difficulty, with a lot of the cheats enabled like infinate ammo/crafting/1-shot kill etc. made it very easy yes, but still fun, just concentrating on all the collectibles, and pinged that too!
